As a pre-op transsexual, I wish there could be a federal law against abusing transgender people. We are behind compared to the gay movement. I hope soon we will be as equal in society as the gay population is.

Probably sooner! Many people just don't like gays and feel more secure around us. The trouble is, they have bigger numbers.

Yeah but like you said in one of your comments that just because there is a law doesn't mean people will stop abusing us. Where I live I still know people that won't rent to black people even though there is a law prohibiting discrimination. They just say it's already taken or they have to do more work on the house or some other excuse not to rent to them. So there probably are people that won't rent to gays or transsexuals. I think what's happening in this country is that more transsexuals are coming out to the public which is a good thing. There is also more transsexuals in the media. I mean you don't have to advertise you are a transsexual, just be yourself and be seen in public. I do however think it is easier for gay people in this country because you generally can't tell by looking at them if they are gay or lesbian or not. IMy only regret is that I would have liked to have seen this acceptance coming when I was a lot younger. It would have been easier for me to come out sooner. Heck even when I was 20 I didn't even know of the word transsexual. I didn't know the word existed. I didn't know there were others out there either. When I was 20 there were no PC's to interact with other people. Still, even in 2014, in my town there is not one transsexual living here. I don't know any that live close to me. I would have to travel 2 hours to Pittsburgh to meet other transsexuals. I'm glad there are more transsexuals willing to come out I just wish there were some living closer. I even wonder if there are other transsexuals living closer to me but are afraid to come out. Knowing the parents in my town, they would not accept their child as transsexual. The people in my town are very backwards, church going, uneducated and ignorant. There are even people in my town that can't read or write and I am talking about adults. The adults that can read some can't spell very well. All they know is manual labor and they live as if it was still the 1950's. Maybe the young transsexuals move away after they graduate and live the way they want to. Most young people that graduate from this area so move away because there is no work out here except the fracking industry which I am very against. But I do live the way I want and so far I haven't been beat up or killed for it. In the past I have had my tires slashed, cooked spaghetti thrown at my door, potatoes thrown at my door and used condoms put on my windshield. That was about 15 years ago. Nothing lately.

Lori, Take heart! You are in a leadership position. You are the first Transexual they have ever met. I have no argument with people living as they wish, even if it's a replication of the nineteen fifties. After all, isn't that what what we want? To live as we see fit? However, There are some misconceptions regarding what the bible says. First it's two bibles not just one. The old and new testaments are for two separate religious beliefs, Jewish and Christian. All the admonitions that are against us are contained in the old testament (Jewish). The Christian Bible (New Test.) is actually supportive. Go to Matthew 19:12,(there are three types of eunuchs.....) or Mark 9:47 (If thy arm offendeth thee......) These are Jesus' own words!
Statistically, there are more Transexuals in your town 1/100 or 1%, They are there, but hidden. And not likely to come out until they know they can do so with safety. I once spoke with one in Va. One telephone call! She just wanted to know we actually existed. She wouldn't meet or allow any future contact, But it was very satisfying to her just to talk with me for a short while.
Regards, Terri
