Amoxicillin and Birth control

Im on amoxicillin and on birth control the amoxicillin say it can effect the effectiveness of birthcontrol . I had sex 2 days before I started the amoxicilin, Do i have a chance of getting pregnant? I have to take amoxicillin for 10 days. How long should I wait before having sex again?

you should be fine for the 2 days before you started to take it. but while you take it you should use condoms too, since it can cut the effectiveness of the pill in half. and then after a week of finishing your amoxicillin you should be fine with just the pill. hope this helps.

alright, so my girlfriend didnt happen to notice that on the bottle of the prescription for her amoxicillin that it weakens birth control. she had been on the antibiotic for almost two weeks prior to having sex twice in a 5 day span, and we typically do not use a condom during sexual intercourse because shes on birthcontrol. the unfortunate mistake that i made was not pulling out before climaxing, and now she has made me aware of amoxicillins effect on birth control. what's the chances of her being pregnant?

It all depends... on everything actually. I will not get into the physiology of different people. I got pregnant three times will on B/C and only one of those times was while I was taking an antibiotic. Everyone is different... if she has been on the pill for a while her body may have already changed her lining and mucus.

Good news for you, it usually takes couples a good three months to a year to conceive after the lady has stopped the pill altogether. I would say she ins't pg. All you can do now... IS WAIT.

I have a similar question too. My doctor prescribed a 7-day treatment with amoxicilin but because of a a probable allegry to it, I took cefalexin for 6 days. This was during the time I was off the pill (I take the 21 pill pack). I started the next pill pack two days before I stopped the antibiotic. My boyfriend and I did not use other contraceptives.

Also, two weeks after I stopped the antibiotic and was still taking the pills, I had a 2 day bleeding, which on the pill pack says can be caused by the antibiotic reducing the effectiveness of the pill. And then I did not get my withdrawal bleeding this month. I did a pregnancy test which came out negative, but my doctor says that I need to do one three weeks after the possible date of getting pregnant, which would be one week after I stopped the antibiotics.

Can I be pregnant? I have been on this pill for over a year and never had any problems with it. Are there different counter-interactions with Cefalexin and the pill, than with Amoxicilin and the pill? Given that I got the bleeding two weeks after stopping the antibiotic, does that mean that those two weeks (rather than just one after the antibiotic) are also critical?

I started my period and then amoxicillin. I start my new pack of bc tomorow, I have not had sex since starting but my period has been longer than usual. I only took three amoxicillin in 5 days and haven't taken in any in 2 days should I use a condom if I plan on having sex Thursday? I need advice, Thanks!!!

You don't need to worry at all. Being on one pill and switching to another should not make your body start ovulating.

I started taking amoxicillin the day before I got my period. I have been on orthotricyclen (the generic version) for quite some time (several years). I started my new pack of pills while on amoxicillin. We had unprotected sex 2 days before I started my new pack (just at the end of my period), the day I started my new pack and once a few days after that. Each of those last two times, I was on the white active pills. So even if the antibiotic effected my birth control, I wouldn't have been at my ovulation point in my cycle. What are my chances of getting pregnant? I am now done with the antibiotic (finished it while I was on the 2nd to last day of my white pills). Does the antibiotic that I just finished have any effect on the remainder of my birth control pills? thanks!!

I have strep throat and have been on amoxicillin for 6 days now, I am also on Tricyclen and my bf and I had sex 3 times while I have been taking this antibiotic. I was on a 7 day prescription from my dentist for amoxicillin but I already was done with the 3 weeks of the nuva being in. So I was on the ''off'' week and on amoxicillin while I had sex just once without a backup with my hubby. It was DURING the midst of taking the amox, and i barely bled for what should have been my period. Sometimes i don't bleed much because of the nuva anyways - but I'm just curious as to how likely it is i could be pregnant & how long I should wait to take a pregnancy test before it can read the hCG hormone that would build up due to early pregnancy. I was done taking my last amox 2 days ago, and i had sex last night too - i wonder if it still effects the effectiveness of contraception for a certain length of time after your done using the amox?

I have been on trycyclin for about a year now and I started to take amoxicillin as I was having really bad tooth aches. I didn't know anything about the amoxicillin decreasing the effectiveness of the pill and me and my boyfriend never use a condom. I took the pill 3 times a day for 7 days and finished it about a week ago. I was having sex the whole time while on it and after without a condom. My friend recently told me about it decreasing the effectiveness, should I be as scared as i am?

i was on a 10-day prescription of amoxicillin for strep throat.(4 pills daily, for 10 days) i have been on birth control very strictly (every day at the exact same time) for over 2 years now. just days after the end of my 10-day prescription my boyfriend and i had sex without a condom .. he did pull out. but ... i have horrible horrible anxiety, should i be scared about pregnancy? what are my chances?

Okay...

First off... "pulling out" is hardly a good measure for birth control. If he's gonna pull out, then he may as well use a condom. Even if he doesn't "finish" inside, there's always those little dribbles and they can get you preggers, too.

Also, if you stress about being pregnant, it can cause you to miss your period, or have it come late. I know it sounds crazy, but it's true. Stress can really throw your body off.

All you can do now is wait... get a PG test, and take it from there. If you do have unprotected sex (even pullout), then look into a "Morning After" pill. You only have a day or 2 after having sex to take it, so for anyone here it will be too late.

WHENEVER your doctor starts you on a new med, even if it's only for a short time, like an antibiotic, ALWAYS ask if it will interfere with you pill, or any other meds you are on. If you forget to ask your doc, then ask the pharmacist. If you forget to ask while you're there, then call the pharmacy.

Last bit of advice... TELL ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS! Let your girlfriends know about the lowered effects of BCP's while on antibiotics. Who knows? You may save one of them from going through what you are going through now.

I have been taking amoxicillin since April of 2008 and have been on the pill for about 7 years. I'm taking amoxicllin to clear up my acne and will most likely be on it for the rest of my life. Is there a chance I could get pregnant while taking amoxicillin and being on the pill?
