Someone please help me!!=)
I have been on numerous different Low Dose birth control pills, trying to find one that would work for me. I have been on birth control for 3 years on about 4 different kinds and I am still experiencing negative effects of the pill, even on a low dose. My face is constantly breaking out, I have HORRIBLE mood swings (crying for no reason at all!). My periods are the only thing that have gotten slightly better since I've been on the pill. But everyone I know on the pill has clear skin! I want to know why the pill isnt working for me for my skin!

My doctor suggested I try Ortho Tri Cyclen. I have been on the Lo dose of Ortho before but I read that it doesn't actually have scientific proof that it helps your skin. However the regular Ortho Tri cyclen is proven to help clear up your skin. I am hesitant to try it though because I have a small figure (5'5 110lbs) and I am afraid that a higher dose of hormones will make me sick. Can anyone give me advice about this??

My doctor also suggested Yasmin, can anyone tell me their experiences with Yas? I heard it causes severe panic/anxiety attacks...obviously this is not something I want to deal with! Has anyone had positive experiences with Yas?

I have tried Yasmin and was on it for about 3 years and absolutely loved it. I had almost NO side effects my skin was clearer and my breasts firmed up nicely. The only reason I stopped was because I stopped BC all together at that time. But I have to say I def think it was probably the best pill I have ever tried (no cramps and light bleeding during my periods as well). My hair even looked healthier!!

hi, im currently on yasmin (almost end of second pack.) I was on estrostep fe to clear my skin and it worked pretty well, but it was too expensive so I switched to yasmin. Ever since I started I've gotten breakouts worse then before. I think it takes about 3 months for the pill to adjust to your body, so I guess I will wait another month but if no improvement im switching! Other then my face its a really good pill, I barely get any cramps and my periods are light.

I tried Yasmin only for 2 weeks to delay a period and I ended up with a sticking out lower stomach for that time. I put it down to the delaying of the period.

It didn't make me hormonal at all like other pills used to make me (like excessive PMS).

I been taking Ortho Tri Cyclen Low for 5 years and I haven't seen any change to my skin. I can say that the black spots on my face are worst and the roseace is getting on my forehead now. I am always in a bad mood and if it comes to sex drive don't mentioned I never want to have sex or even be touched. I just change to YAS and the Dr. told me that is better than Ortho,. I hope this works if not I am sure I am going to loose my marriage. Honestly, I believe that none of the birth control pills are good or patches.

Yasmin was the worst birth control pill I have ever been prescribed. My hair started coming out in clumps. I could run my hand through my hair and tons of hair would fall out. Also, I had terrible mood swings and felt bloated all the time. I have talked to others who have also experienced rage and terrible mood swings on Yasmin.

I have been on Yasmin 28 for the past 4 1/2 years. I have never had any problems (breakouts, bleeding in b/t my period, headaches). The only difference I could tell was that my cramps were slightly worse but only lasted about 2 days. In 4 days (total) my period was over.

I have recently decided to switch to Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo for a little while b/c my "sex drive" has decreased somewhat in the last 3-4 months. I was hoping this would help, but I haven't read many good things about it...wondering if I should just stick with what I know works for me!

I sounds like you have two separate issues...just like me. I couldn't find a happy-medium birth control (I had mood swings, bloading, the whole 9 yards..) AND fix my acne problem. SO, my doc suggested I try the Nuva Ring and then go on a topical for my skin (I'm on Differin Gel). I have never been happier! I have NO side effects to the ring, and two of my friends are now on it, and they love it too.

Just a suggestion...

One suggestion I have is to go to

www.adverse-drug-reaction.net

and run the reports for the different pills you are interested in. You will be able to see all the adverse drug reaction reports reported to the FDA and this will give you a good idea about which ones are best for ACNE, mood swings, and other serious reactions.

Hope this helps!

i was on yas for a long time and i didn't like it too much. I was very emotional all the time and never happy. It was also not helping me with my cramps anymore. I told my doctor and he switched me to Ortho Cyclen (actually, Sprintec- the generic). I like it so much better. I feel like myself again! Maybe you should talk to your doctor about switching. Also, if you're interested, check out that website: www.adverse-drug-reaction.net and compare the reactions to different birth controls to see which would be most suitable for you.

I am on Yasmin now. Here are the positives: less mood swings, no cramps, light and shorter periods, better skin. Negatives: must take in the morning or afternoon, if I take it before I go to bed I get nausea and dehydration. If I take it in the morning I'm fine. One more thing, in the recent year I've started to get spider veins, reticular veins and a few varicose veins. I did not have them before I was on birth control. I did some research and found out that some doctors link weaker vein walls and blood clots with continued use of BC. This is freaking me out. I'm considering going off, and I've been on it for about 3 years. Also, I originally started to take Yasmin for my skin. It really helped, although lately (in my third year) not as well. I tried Yas for a while as well, which is a lower dose, but my acne got worse. I am at a cross roads right now and considering going off BC to see if my reticular vein problem improves.

I just wanted to add my own experience with Yasmin. My Dr. switched me to Yasmin when I had been on Nuvaring for around 6 years (which I had loved!), but in the last two years or so my hair had started falling out, my period had decreased to about 2 days and very light, and I had lost almost 20 pounds without dieting (which, because I am naturally petite, had friends and family members concerned that I was becoming aneorexic; so it was not a positive side effect for me). For the first month or so I became really nauceous at times, but once my body got used to it, it has been really great. I think that birth control just affects everyone differently because of their own hormones. So my advice is try different ones until you find what works for you. However, now my biggest concern is how crazy expensive Yasmin is!$60 each month!!! I am considering going off of it because I am a college student without insurance and cannot afford it. My pharmacist recommanded I go to Planned Parenthood and see if they carry it because they often sell birth control at a discounted price. But, the doctor at Planned Parenthood told me IT IS TOO EXPENSIVE FOR PLANNED PARENTHOOD TO CARRY!!

Okay so I honestly have never been on birth control. However I am planning on starting on the 10th (Doctor Appt) anyway, I have been doing tons or research! The idea of BC has always scared me so I wanted to make certain I was on the 100% best pill for my needs.  From what I had learned there are three major types of BC.“levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol” which is in the brands such as ALESSE and TRIPHASIL… there are quite a few more brands but I ruled those out right away because they seemed to be more prone to the common side affects (weight gain, crazies ect.) The second brand was “norgestimate and ethinyl estradiol” which was in the brands such as ORTHO TRI-CYCLEN, ORTHO TRI-CYCLEN LO and of course quite a few other brands which at first seemed to be my favorite. The third which has slowly became my favorite and I am going to go on as to why, was “drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol” which is in YASMIN and YAZ. However there are a few weird ones concerning this one also… which I will get to.

ORTHO TRI-CYCLEN at first seemed to have better results as far as people seeming happier on it, acne clearing up ect. However I learned this was just from advertising ploys. Not individual, personal results. Double blind studies also seemed to get better results with this pill. Many people said they had more cramps, and seemed very depressed… also when they took the ORTHO TRI-CYCLEN LO they seemed to spot for a very long time even after the initial starting. They also seemed to have periods for longer than a week. As far as the acne with this pill goes I also learned that the ORTHO TRI-CYCLEN LO seems to do no help.. POSSIBLY make it worse. However the ORTHO TRI-CYCLEN I read if you have very severe Acne it helps a lot…. Like an amazing a lot. But if you have mild to moderate acne it makes you a lot worse…. Anyway that is about 10% of why it steered me away and the rest was that people seemed to be very depressed and kinda get the “crazies” on it well especially on the LO.

Now as far as YASMIN and YAZ goes. I find it very weird they are the only two pills that use these chemical combination, also that this pill is only released in the USA. All the others are also resealed in Canada and some other countries. There are no generic, there are no other brands. Just Yasmin/Yaz. However YASMIN honestly has the best results. Now YAZ is the same as YASMIN just with lower hormone levels. Yaz is suposto be the better product. More expensive, more developed more advertised. However many people said they where either on YASMIN and wanted to switch to YAZ just to “be safe” because Yaz was suposto be better or started off on YAZ and that they felt horrible. Got very bad mood swings on Yaz, even lost there hair! YAZ made people VERY depressed and louse there sexual drive… the list goes on and that they had ad the same problems with the ORTHO TRI-CYCLEN LO of having periods for longer than a week. Acne either getting worse or having no change. However YASMIN has amazing results.

Everybody who took YASMIN Said they where much happier, had no mood swings, cramps where reduced, period lighter, acne started clearing up. Now most of the people who had severe acne said it got worse which I found weird almost the opposite of ORTHO TRI-CYCLEN. But everybody who had mild to moderate said almost 100% better or 100% better. They also said they did not gain weight or if they did it was just 5 pound which was lost after the first month of taking. So from what I had learned YASMIN is going to be my choice and clearly the best however ORTHO TRI-CYCLEN did not seem that bad. YASMIN seemed to greatly have less side affects however.  Just make certain it is YASMIN and not YAZ.

Firstly, a disclaimer: birth control pills have different side effects for different women. That said, YASMIN was awful for me. I was on it for three years. In that time, I developed an irregular heart beat that no one could figure out (and I'm an exerciser), had no sex drive (and I mean it killed it) and by the third year, I was having yeast infections every month. I just switched to OTC Lo a month ago, and oddly enough, the heartbeat thing is GONE, my yeast infections are GONE, and I want to have sex again! Yes, I'm spotting a bit, but I'll take it. Think carefully about Yasmin and Yaz and talk to your doctor. Both drugs have a progestin that has not been out long, and I'm not convinced that we know just how safe it is. FDA approved or not, I'm never touching it again. I just hope I haven't done any long term damage by "sticking with it" for three years.

I was on YAZ for 3 days and I experienced the horrible side effects within this short time period. I would nearly faint, I had no energy, I slept all the time, I lost weight, I had random scary vision/hearing problems...but all during this time, my acne was clearing up slightly. Nonetheless, after reading many reviews on the health effects of YAZ, I switched to Sprintec, since my health is obviously more important than good skin. Ever since then, I feel so much better (even though I still feel tired a lot), but the only thing is my skin is breaking out more (especially on my chin). Every morning I wake up to a cluster of whiteheads on my chin. I'm just hoping that this is a temporary purging time as my body adjusts to the hormones. Did anyone have a similar experience with Sprintec??

I've been on yaz for almost a year now. Before my periods made me incredibly angry and just pissed off for no reason. I originally started taking the birth control to regulate my period since it was so irregular. It works great for that. Then it was because I became sexually active. I never really connected the dots until now about the birth control, but I would find myself crying for no reason and having this feeling especially during my period. Although I didn't have sex until I was on the birth control, I was way more physically active in the bedroom before I was on the BC. I'm trying to get off of it and go onto Ortho Tricyclen.

The only good thing about Yaz was the fact that it really does regulate your period after a few months on it, and keeps it to about 3-4 days including spotting. It also clears up cramps pretty well, although i had a few on the first day of my period.
