I'm 24, and have been taking the pill since I was 16. I started out on Orthro Tri-Cyclen, but stopped about 6 months later after some unpleasant side effects, such as headaches. Then, when I started pills again about a year later, I was on Lo-Ovral (and the generic) which didn't bother me much at all, except for some weight gain and occasional mood swings. I stuck with the generic for Lo-Ovral, Lo-Ogestrel or something, for a few years. For a reason I can't recall, I stopped taking pills for a year or so and when I became pregnant accidentally, I went right back on Lo-Ovral. I had very irregular periods, so my doctor suggested I switch to a pill with more estrogen. HUGE MISTAKE. I took Ortho-Novum 1/35 (its generic is Necon) for year and had the most horrible side effects! It made my period more regular, but my period would come the week before the placebo pills, which isn't supposed to happen. Even worse was the weight gain (20 pounds!!), horrible mood swings, constant breast tenderness and other more serious side effects involving my liver and gallbladder. I just started a new prescription for Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo and am only on my first week, but so far have had no side effects. I'm optimistic, but not enough time has elapsed so I would really like to know what other women have experienced with this pill! Thanks so much for your info!:)

I'm 28 and just had a baby and my Dr. recommended that I take Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo as a form of birth control.(I got pregnant while taking Yaz, not to mention the side effects from Yaz were horrible!) I'm a little nervous if there are side effects from this pill or not and when during the pill cycle am I supposed to start my period? If anyone out there has any answers please feel free!! Thanks so much!

hey.
I have been on Ortho try ceclyn lo for about 4 months. Thank g-d it's been a good experience. First week or two was dizzy and somewhat nauses , but it went away.
I was just wondering, how long after u stop taking the pill can someone became pregnant?. Ive been reading different boards on this topic and everyone seems to have an opinion. Ortho's website is reaallly not helpful at all.

Hi im 19, and started taking ortho tricyclen-lo for almost a month now. i have had hardly any side effects, and have not gained any weight. I have been feeling a little bloated, but i just go to the gym & drink plenty of water & that feeling goes away.
so for the people who are scared of gaining weight, DONT BE! i was scared too but you have to remember the pill works different on everybody!!! so i recommend it!=]

I've been using ORTHO TRICYCLEN Lo for about four months. I couldn't figure out why all of a sudden I am ten pounds heavier. My body is acting the same way it did when I was pregnant! I have to pee all the time, I am very very tired in the mornings and sometimes nauseous. It seems that I have more mood swings than usual and no sex drive. I think it is the pill. I am currently looking for an alternative to taking pills. I would love the non-hormonal iud.
I read your message and just wanted to say hold on a bit... not sure if you've already switched but Ortho is just a weird BC. It took a little bit for me and it was rough in the beginning but I'm totally back to normal... and as far as the sex drive... mine has increased... so for anyone who's had these issues... it gets better.:-)

I have been taking Ortho Lo for 4 and a half years. i love it! I feel great, i never get cramps no nausea (only the 1st month), no headaches or weight gain but it did make my breasts more tender than they were before i was on it. The one bad thing is that it hasnt regulated me. My period comes within the same week as it should, but NEVER the same day or time. I am a psycho about taking my pill at the same time every night. 11 pm on the dot and i even set my cell phone alarm to remind me!!! Im way too paranoid about getting pregnant to forget to take it and in four years, I have NEVER forgotten! Amazing, huh!?

NO!!!! You are not safe to have sex without a condom yet!!! It takes at least 3 months for your body to regulate to the pill! Ive been on it for over four years and i have NEVER had sex without a condom! I wouldnt even think about risking it! Nothing is 100% so if i were you, i definitely wouldnt risk that!

When you hit the last week of your active pills start another pack. I was the same way and it worked for me. Just finish the new pack out, so it will be 2 months for a period. Just be aware that doing this will cause you to be a pack short by the time to get a new one. My insurance told me they would not give me a new pack until a certain date.

GENERIC OR BRAND?
I'm going to start on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo this Sunday, it's my first time with BCP. I bought the generic one, has anyone experienced differences between Generic and Brand?
I cannot take the generic kind. My insurance started making me take it versus the regular, and even with the first month I got yeast infections (which I have NEVER had before) had headahces every single day and was nauseous all the time. I tried it for two months and realized that was the only new thing in my body. I switched back to the regular and do not have those problems anymore. But everyone is different!

I used to be on Yasmin for about a year and it made me feel so nauseous that I would even wake up in the middle of the night and have to go sit in the bathroom...also, it made me extremely car sick and certain foods were extremely hard to be around because their smell would make me feel so sick. I just started taking ortho tri-cyclen lo and was wondering if anyone had those same problems because that was terrible...

i know this sounds stupid, but how do you know when you'll get your period-which color are you taking when it starts because i don't want to be out and about without a tampon ready because one, it's embarrassing and two, its tough to clean the stain when you get stuck out and unprepared.

Hey, i've been taking triclen-lo for 6 months now and it regulated my period for about 3 months but now i've noticed that in the second week range i start leaking to the point where i have to have some sort of protection and it last and gets heavier until the sunday i start my 'normal' period and only when i take the first pill of a pack i stop and it starts all over again, this has been going on for the last 3 weeks. is this any way normal? has anyone else noticed or had this problem? i know some girls have had the problem to be pregnant and still have their periods and dont even know they are pregnant, i dont want that to happen haha and its obvioulsy the most annoying thing EVER to basicly have your period for almost 3 weeks.
any advice or answers would be GREATLY apreicated:)

you should have gotten label stickers to put so that u know the exact day to start a pack (incase you dont start taking it on a sunday)
week 1 are the white pills and you should take the first pill the day you finish your period.
its the green ones you should be taking while on your period. i usualy will start packing up some tampons with me on the day before the green pills start. hope that helps :)
