I have been on Ortho-Tri Cyclen for over 10 years and switched to Tri-Nessa bc of insurance about 6 months ago..I have recently switched back one month ago and have already seen progress in my weight loss due to the weight I gained from it(about 10pounds)..I was hardly moody at all in comparison to what I felt for the past 6 months..I couldn't figure out what was wrong but I'm glad I did. Do not take Tri-Nessa!!

You know I was told that generic meds have more meds in them then what is needed. They add other things to the pill and that is where the side effects come from. Yes, the generic and the non-generic have the same meds in them but the generic has more...from what I have been told. I dont know if it is true! Does anyone?

I have never posted anything online before, but I think it is VERY important this is known. Tri-nessa is a DISASTER! I had always been on Ortho, but I stopped taking it, got pregnant, had a baby, and 3 months later decided to go back on Ortho when breast feeding didn't work out. My Dr prescribed Tri-Nessa. I have been a WRECK! Moody, Depressed... I had the biggest scare of my life! I had my 5 MONTH OLD, with me at Wal Mart and all of the sudden I almost passed out! Became short of breaht, dizzy, I started having a breakdown, and that has NEVER happened to me! THen I pieced together the past week, I've been having anxiety attacks, shortness of breath, dizziness... don't take Tri-Nesa. For me, it was a disaster. I'm caling my DR today to get me off this crap!!!

obviously, the people who are writing on this forum are the ones who have had bad experience with Trinessa. But remember, only people who are dissatisfied with certain products will be vigorously searching online for places like this and posting their complaints. People who are happy with Trinessa (like me) will rarely search online, trying to figure out why bad side effects are happening, and ending up finding this website... my doctor told me that he has prescribed Trinessa to numerous people and they all seem to be happy with it... obviously, they are not posting complaints online because there is no reason to do so... only few people who are having problems seem to be exaggerating their personal issues.. Actually, my skin has perfect complexion since I took Trinessa and I did gain some water weight but with regular exercise and healthy diet, I actually ended up losing couple of pounds... So.. be rational when taking advise from these numerous people you don't even know
I personally was just looking to see whether or not I could skip my sugar pills. Maybe it's just the power of suggestion, but I've been on Trinessa for a year. In this course of the year, I've been many many many more times emotional than what is normal for me. I first chalked it up to me entering college. Then I realized that the moodiness hasn't gone away! Also, I have had the in-between bleeding, and in-between brown discharge, which kinda scares me. It only started recently and I haven't changed how I take the pill. My cramps, which went away on the Ortho patch, came back. Not as bad as the were before I started birth control, but still pretty bad.I've also gained 15 pounds that won't go away. I exercise more than I ever have (my college offers gym services) and I eat better. The bright side is: I haven't gotten pregnant. So, it has working for me. So I'm hoping I just need a birth control pill that's made up differently.

I am currently taking Tri Nessa. I have been on it for 5 months. The only side effects I am experiencing from Tri Nessa seems to be frequent headaches, some dizziness, chest pain & I find that while taking the blue pills I am more hungry which causes me to gain weight. The doctor says these symptoms should go away as my body gets used to this pill, I'm on my 5th month & the symptoms are still there.

I skipped the week of sugar pills (last week) and have been dizzy and very fatigued ever since. I am very seriously thinking about switching after reading all of this...

I switched to Trinessa a few weeks ago from Loestrin 24. On Loestrin, I was moody, depressed, had no energy, and was almost always in a rotten mood. The first day I took Trinessa my energy was back to normal. My moods have improved and I am no longer moody and depressed. I am very happy with Trinessa so far (and so is my boyfriend!!).

I have kind of been on and off birth control for the last 4 years. I got on tri nessa this last year, I was off of it for 2 months, and now I'm back on it. My appetite has definitely increased, I don't have much of a sex drive, and I have been very depressed in a way that I've never felt before. Do you think it could be because being off of it then back on it again. I've felt these symptoms for the last month or so. Has anyone felt this? What is a better choice for a poor college student?

Hi, i googled my birth control and found this. Usually if there are awful side effects with any medication I get them. I've noticed the acne and slight headaches but no moodiness or anything. I was ortho tri cyclen lo and my period would last like...2 weeks. then my doc switched me to trinessa. I've been on it all month and now im on the sugar pill part of the pack and I still havent started my period. I read that its normal to miss the first period, but does anyone think I should be worried? If I took a pregnancy test would it give me a correct answer? I'm kinda nervous although my boyfriend and I have been pretty careful.

I would never recommand that any woman take this medication because I am 28 years old and suffered a stroke from it. I was only on it for about 1 1/2 months before it happened. I have lost vision in my left eye and will probably not recover it. I DO NOT recommand any form of BC.
I am a 17 year old girl. I was put on TriNessa for 5 days before i had a stroke. I was 16! Please don't go on it before your tested. I can't hear at all in my left ear. Please listen.

I am starting to take birth control for the first time and my pharmacy issued me a prescription for Tri-Nessa. From what I have read, no matter what birth control you take, there are undesirable side effects but some things I have read regarding Tri-Nessa are not reassuring and I was wondering if anyone has used this birth control and if so how did it effect you?
I have never taken any birth control before either. I am getting married this month, and began trinessa in March. The only side effect that I have experienced with trinessa was during the first month of taking it. I was dizzy, and my period was a lot heavier than normal. Now, I am not dizzy, and my periods last about 3 days (before they were 7 days!) I love trinessa!

all birth control pills work differently for different people. Try it, and if after a few months you find that you don't like it, talk to your doctor, and he or she can switch brands or doses. Hope this helps!

Ive been taking Ortho Try Cyclen for almost 2 years now. Now im on Medicaid and i have to go to a pharmacy to fill my birth control prescription. Well i went today and instead of giving me that, they gave me the generic brand called Tri Nessa. I called my clinic and they said to ask the pharmacist if it would have major side effects. i asked them and they said it shouldnt. But im still worried because ive been on the other one for so long. What do i do?

I was first given Ortho-Tri Lo, but after about 4 months, I was prescribed Ortho-Tri (regular) due to break through bleeding. To save some money, I took the generic form (Trinessa). The first month was ABSOLUTE HELL!! I was a mad woman-- always crying...then yelling...then depressed. I was always mad and picking fights with my boyfriend. I was so depressed, and my sex drive was NON EXISTENT (so was my natural lube production)!! Anyways, after a while, the mood swings got a little better because I guess I must have adjusted...but my sex drive never has come back. I had some weight gain...and my skin sensitivity HAS INCREASED x10000000!!!! I can't be out in the sun, or I'll break out in tiny red itchy bumps all over my face! It looks horrible, and feels like horrible burning. My skin also dries out very quickly...and to this day, I still have depression spells. I honestly feel like I'm going insane! Does anyone have any similar experiences? Does anyone have any advice? I've actually just recently switched to the non-generic Ortho-tricyclen....so I guess we'll see. But I'd love to hear any sort of support from anyone out there!

I was wondering what you decided to do, did you stop taking the pill, I am wondering if I should stop and just not take anything, my periods are longer than ever, they were only about 3 days before and I have gained 8 lbs, even with an increased workout program 5 days a week and an 1800 calorie diet. Any advice, Denise

I've been on a couple other birth control pills in the past that have caused my periods to be so irregular (for instance, I was on a pill that out of the blue made my periods last 3 weeks out of the month!), and so I switched to Trinessa. My periods have been normal since I've been on it (9 months or so), and havn't really had any side effects. My cramps are bad sometimes (but they were also bad when I wasn't on the pill..), and I've gained about 10 pounds. But my doctor told me that bc pills will only make you gain weight if you gain weight pretty easily in general. I dunno if that's true..but either way I've heard that all types of pills and patches will make you gain weight just because they are changing your hormones. Makes sense. But in general, I've been happy with trinessa.

I stopped taking it for a lil over a month, however, because I waited to long to refill my prescription and had to wait forever to get a new one. I havn't had my period now since my last one (5 weeks ago). Has anybody else experienced this? I am going to start taking it again.. so hopefully that will regulate my period again!...

I'm 20 years old and have already been on numerous BC. I'm currently on Tri-nessa and I have to say it's the absolute worse. Originally I was placed on BC because I have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and it's supposed to insure and regulate my period. However on Tri-nessa not only do I sometimes not see my period but when I get it it's so unpredictable it's sent me to the emergency room twice now.

I'm currently at the end of my first week and it's caused me such abdominal pain that I was in tears in a movie theater. Out of the blue I get such strong abdominal pain (cramps) that all I can do is cry and take severe pain killers. I've also been spotting now for the past 5 days despite having had a period that came and went. I'm so frustrated.

I'm an emotional basket case. My fiance doesn't know what to do with me sometimes. I'm either crying or angry at everything. I've gained a substantial amount of weight after I started taking Tri-nessa. I'm an active person who works out regularly and watches their diet because of PCOS. I'm baffled. This has never happened on any other kind of BC I've taken.

Now I can say that maybe what's happening isn't because of the pill but this is my second time on Tri-nessa and the same things are happening as the first.

I have taken ortho tri-nessa since April and I have bad cramps and my period comes whenever. I will usually start with brown discharge in week 3 and the cramps are awful and my period comes whenever. My husband and I have been married for 1 year and I am 29 years old and maybe I should just go off birth control and have him continue to use a condemn. I am tired off taking birth control and having the same problems.

I am 29 years old and have been on the brand name ortho -cyclen and ortho-tricyclen for 10 years. Over a year ago I was switched to the generic "Tri-Nessa" for 3 months due to my insurance. I do not recommend this pill to anyone. I had the most painful headaches that lasted for a week each month. They were so painful all I could do was lay down and cry from the excruciating pain. I quickly identified the source of the headaches and got back on ortho-tricyclen again. It is completely worth the out of pocket expense. Oh, Tri-nessa is also the birth control that was put on recall during the beg. of 2006, yet many of us unsuspecting consumers were not informed. I was unable to find any info. on the Watson Pharm. website relating to the recall. They put many women at risk during this time, and did not have the integrity to inform us. Not the kind of company I would give my business to even if they could actually produce a decent product.
