Hi. I started taking 3mg of Invega yesterday (the smallest available dose) and I'm wondering if anyone else here takes it?
It's a new medication which is basically a long-acting form of Risperdal. I have never tried regular Risperdal so I have no idea if Invega will be similar.
My Psychiatrist and Myself decided this might be a good med for me as I was having nothing but trouble on Geodon and Trazodone. They totally threw my into a terribly unstable mixed state. Oh gosh was it bad. Luckily I'm now coming through it.
So any info or experiences you may have regarding Invega (Paliperidone) would be greatly appreciated as I'm having a hard time finding anything about this med because it's so new.
Thanks everyone and have a great weekend!:)

I have been taking Invega for over one year. It worked wonders for getting me on an even keel, thinking straight, not talking irritacly, thinking in 12 different directions. However, now I'm wondering if it has slowed me down too much. Doc decreased me from 9mg down to 6mg once a day. I hope this helps. I want to go off it to see if it helps. I just can't seem to get up and go daily. I am taking an antidepresent and I do not feel depressed altho I may be. Who knows when your taking these meds. I wish I had some thought on this. Thanks for your input.

I'm on Invega 9mg and have put on weight but was also on Seroquel but was taken off it due to increased weight gain. I am now trying to loose some weight but it is incredibly hard. I was told by my doctor that all anti psychosis medication causes weight gain so there's no alternative.

I was just prescribed this today and haven't taken it yet. I was taking 50mg of Seroquel and it was knocking me out at night. hopefully this will be less hard on my system.
It won't be easier on your system it will cause permanent brain damage, shrinkage, memory loss, insomnia, absolute restlessness, the zombie effect and possibly many more of the other numerous side effects- the more u take the worse it will be. whatever you do never go cold turkey off a anti pschotic that could make you pschotic and caus numerous other horrible side effects. In an aethiestic culture where absolutely everything is science and can be solved by science we ignore the spiritual realm. In my personal experience I was diagnosed w bipolar and scitzophrenia hospitalised and put on this horrible drug. However my 'illness' turned out to be demonic oppression I got set free completely by God through a healing and deliverence ministry and have been completely normal happy healthy and doing fabulous off medication ever since I study full time and part time and work and play and go to church. God always wants to deliver us from sickness and spiritual oppression. You have to remember that psychiatrists have not always got it right and they still don't I could tell u horror stories about some of the things that went down in that institution and you have to remember 50 years ago they were giving out quick fix lobotomies. Remember Jesus loves you he died for you and he not only bore our sin but our sicknesses also there is freedom and power to overcome sin oppression and sickness through the blood of Jesus. I suggest you try a healing and deliverence ministry if your fed up with all of this and need a solution. I know I'm replying to a post written ages ago but you are reading this now so it's not wasted. God bless

I take divalproex sodium dr 1500 mg a day and seroquel 200 mg a day... I'm having sexual problems also..

invega really is a good med it doesnt get in the way of me when I do my lifting weights workout infact it gives me more power and energy and it really helps with my bipolar and ocd the only known side effect that bothers me a little is the congestion in my nose whenever I eat or in cold wheather I'm on 9mg i tried going down to 6mg last year but i was really deppresed and had no energy or focus to go about doing my workout routine but believe me it took a long time to get the right med combination this med is a keeper for guidance support along with therapy

austin, I have no experience with this medication and am not bipolar, but you really need to tell someone about the side-effects you're having; they could be serious, or you might be allergic to the drug. Do you have a parent/carer/therapist you can tell? I think you should please call your doctor right away as a rash is not usually a good sign; this medication can't be right for you. Take care buddy.

I was just prescribed Invega 9 mgs. and I am very restless all the time. I am not sure if it is the medicine or part of my illness. Anyone else have this side effect.
yes. absolutely. gives me add like symptoms. restlessness, increased impulsiveness, and oh yeah, RESTLESSNESS! lol and when i take it, it's like i can NOT keep my mouth shut. i talk a million miles a minute, and interrupt people constantly. but its the lesser of two known evils. it doesn't give me lockjaw, and it doesn't make me feel dead. but the impulse control is really a problem. a lot of times, impulse control is extremely important in life

I have been taking invega for over 6 months now. Personally it has corrupted my memory and imagination. often i feel restless and agitated but I am able to keep my negative emotions brooding internally instead of outwardly. I smoked weed a few days ago and has made me pretty paranoid since, which is sad, because i used to really enjoy smoking weed. But in terms of outward projections of yourself invega helps, people seem to respond better to me I guess.
Also on lithium bicarbonate, tried to ween off of it with terrible results, including: nausea, constipation, NO appetite, racing thoughts and extreme distortion of time and huge mood swings within minutes. Went back to my original dosage a few months ago, still suicidal but hey nothin new. besides that if anybody has had similar combination of medications and want to talk, please post

I have studied this and sometimes it just happens. Our doctor says the same. It happens without a reason. But pot will trigger if it's underlying. I'm so sorry its a tough road.

No one "tries" injectable antipsychotics .

They were invented to be forced on people who wont take the pills cause they hate them.

I'm worried my boyfriend is coming off his Invega too fast. He has reduced it from 6mg to 3mg. Has anyone had any bad experiences with that.

I have been on lithium and invega for over 2 years. I wound up in the hospital for related issues, and my doctor cut me off of 600mg overnight. The next week was straight from hell. I had severe dizziness and chest pain, the world was constantly 'spinning'. My moods went haywire and one minute I would be fine, suddenly I would be hit with awful moods, during which I 'hated' all of my family and friends, fired employees, and at one point I swore I would never ho back to my company again. My primary doctor was horrified when he heard what the other doc did. He put me back on my full does a week ago and I was still going through mood swings yesterday. I'm suppose to be weaning off over the next three months, but invega is the only thing staying. I will be going up to 6mg from 3. Invega has done nothing but wonders for me. No side effects either.

I have been taking paliperidone invega injections for 6 months (once a month) now and compared to the other anti psychotic meds its drastically better. No side effects and it has leveled me out to the point that I can feel emotions normally.

I've been on the paliperidone injection for 3 months against my will (psychiatrist said its either that or I send you to hospital). I have been diagnosed with schizophrenia but I personally believe I have just had a really hell life and need a bit of support recovering from life in general. Talking to people, feeling accepted and like i belong somewhere is really all I need. I'm 26 and am just recovering from many soul destroying life experiences. The last thing I needed was to have my psychiatrist misunderstand and medicate me.

Anyway. It is nice to talk about it here. I find that the medication slows me down and ive put on weight, it's also killed my confidence and makes me feel 'not all here' if that makes sense. Just sitting here I can feel the sensation of the drug in my head and I don't like that either, it's as if there is something foreign in my system that's not meant to be there. I feel it the most when I'm in bed and what it to stop.

I strive to be happy and free from pain and I wish the same for all beings here. Thanks for listening.
Kate
