Jamie, thanks for writing. I had worsening pain and more then pre-surgery tingling/numbness. I asked for 2nd opinion who asked for a post surgery CT scan. The radiologist said could be loose screws at C5 and C6. What have you learned? Tell me why you did this first place. Write back.

But L2 L3 L4 L5 are fused an im in worse severe pain now 24hrs a day. It never ends its about to be 2yrs an still no relief.

Hi, I had a L5/s1 fusion 12 weeks ago. After recovering from the initial surgery pain I started to feel really good, so starting walking everyday, bike riding with my boys and just enjoying all the things I couldnt do pre-op. Over the last month I have been having pain in my back particularly at night and when I wake in the morning it takes me quite a while to become mobile. I also feel like i've lost my strength again and struggle doing household tasks I seem to get very tired very quickly too. I have also noticed that I get a clicking noise where I had the op and sometimes a shooting pain which can be very painful. I am starting to feel fed up again, I am a 34 yr old single mum of 2 boys and really need to go back to work but dont really know what I would be able to do. Im hoping that this is just a blip and that I wont be like this forever..any advice would be great. Would be nice to talk to people who have been through the same.

I was born in 1970., had harrington rod inserted in my back in 1982 at 12 years old.. I was told not to lift over 5lbs, and that I can't have children... My swimming and gymnastic career was over..
Now I'm 42yrs old and I'm experiencing numbness throughout my entire body.. so i cant use a cane when my legs go out due to nerves in left buttocks...
the most shocking of all is that my body is still turning to the left. the sergery was suppose to prevent the curve from progressing. Now the pain that comes and goes., is now premenant unless I get a real Doctor who cares and knows what I'm going through. who wants to help me... I have a solution if u can help

I had a spinal fusion op at the beginning of march last year & the past couple of weeks I've been getting really bad clicking where my rods are & a burning sensation after it clicks mainly on the left side, I'm going to see my specialist on the 26th but I really want to know if a screw is loose or broken. I also randomly get tingling sensation on both of my legs but mostly on the right leg?. Anyone else experienced this?

Hi Janie , I had the same thing happen and after several tests they said I was fine. I knew I was not so I was persistent. After my next surgery it was found that I had 4+ screws completely striped in my sacrum. They ends up putting plates in my pelvis and cages in the front of my spine. I am now 1 year post op with minimal daily pain. It is tolerable now but it has been a really long journey.

Thanks for replying, my rods are at the top of my spine by my shoulder blades but the clicking is terrible and the burning sensation is unbarable, I think one of them is loose but I just wanted advise because I didn't want to go to the hospital & everything will be fine so it would feel like I'm wasting there time :/. My left rib cage has also been left twisted from when they straightened my spine. Is everything ok with you now? How's the pain? If you don't mind me asking

My daughter, now 21, has undergone 4 spinal surgeries. Fused T6-L4. Several complications. Loosening hardware only showed when they opened her up last March, bone spurs, fusing never set after 3 years, screws literally fell out of back. No CT, MRI's, Mylograms, xrays detected this. Neuropathy, tachycardia, pain that meds won't touch (tried them all) All docs just saying she is in such a bad place and they don't know what to do. No one will help us. She is completely debilitated. Torture for her and for me to watch. My question is, does anyone know of a top surgeon?

My Surgeon was dr Jeffery Wood in Houston tx. Look him up. I want though a similar issue, with a much longer fusion. He really knows his stuff. He was able to tell me more than any other dr could. Most drs would not even treat me or said that there was nothing anyone could do.

I am doing really well. I still have some minor pain from time to time, but it is manageable and it does not stop me from doing very much.

I had a spinal fusion in 2005 on my lower back which worked well, I have had another fusion November 2012 which the specialist removed the old screws & plates
and put in new one's along with more above my old one's, I am still in a lot of pain and have burning on my lower back??
I have been told that the mix has not set on 1 side of my back(Burning sensation) and some of the screws are loose I have now to get them redone and the mix changed
to the original mix that was used on the first fusion this has set my recovery back months I see the specialist in April 2013,

Thank you Stafford TX. She can't sleep, drive, sit, stand, walk. I think docs are scared to touch her. All apologize for her horrible situation, but no one helps. I will inquire with recommended doc. Thank you so very much!!

How many levels did you have fused and which ones? My issue was that my 8level fusion ended at L4 so the L5 was falling apart from the stress. I went 8 years with no pain or any issues, then I literally had a broken back and didn't know it. It was the worst pain ever! My legs went numb constantly and I was in so much pain I would go into shock. They finally fused all the way to my pelvis and put in anterior cages. My first surgery was in Wichita KS and my Dr. Told me I could do anything as long as it didn't hurt. I told my new doctor that and he about fell over! I had been jet skiing, jogging, and playing extreme sports with lots of impact. I defiantly should not have been and I could have gone the rest of my life without any issues.

Hi, If i was to do it over again, I would have continued with Acupuncture. I took the pain off of my hip. If i would have continue the acupuncture, the doctor said he could relieve the pain and numbness in my feet. Acupuncture is worth a try. good luck.

hi, I need to see Neurosurgeon next week i have severe sciatic pain, My CT Scan exam says that
L5/S1: there is mild posterior disc bulge, asymmetric to the left, which abuts the ventral thecal sac and the traversing left S1 nerve root.
L4/L5: There is a mild diffuse disc bulge which flattens the ventral thecal sac. No spinal canal or neural foraminal stenosis .
Mild Degenerative disc disease of the lower lumber spine. worst at L5/S1 where a mild disc bulge abuts the traversing left S1 nerve root.
i am very scare I already had triple bypass surgery
6 years ago and i am 50 years old what should i do any advice . Thanks in advance.

I had my surgery just over a year ago. I had a spinal fusion of L-3 to S-1 done. at first after problems with blood clots, bladder infection and the development of Diabetes, I was able to walk 3 miles a day. I fell in September of 2012 and broke a bone and a screw in the S-1 area. After using a bone stimulator for 3 months, the bone had healed but the broken screw has not fused. The doctor says he can take the broken screw out. I have decided to get it done because my back is in pain. The doctor says it won't help my numbness in my feet though. He has recommended a pain doctor that he works with to help me with my feet. will there be an end to this. Also i am over weight (270 lbs).

Going in soon for my 4th spinal fusion, they keep telling me my bone won't grow. The pain is so bad in both legs and buttocks. I refuse to live on pain medicine!! I will be in a body brace for a year and they are putting in a cage too this time! I hope you all get some answers soon! Did anyone file for temporary disability? Just wondering. We will definitely need some help this time around! 5yrs of this is wearing on our finance!

I am just 2 1/2 months post up and just got up from watching some TV and my back is now cracking and popping, NO pain but scared to death. I can't go through that surgery again.... Anyone knows if this is something that comes with the territory????? The clicking and grinding (which you can hear when I walk) is scary and grandchildren are freaked out. Please help!!!!!! Pamela
