Friends, can you tell me if stem cells can really cure spinal cord injuries? Waiting for your reply?

I'm seeing a new doc, who is going to do this, in europe,(france, germany and england) a 3 country partnership...based in Toulouse france .. they take the hard ware out put flexible hardware, and put stem cells in around fake rubber disc, the stem cells grow new disk around the rubber? the cost is about 15k plus transportation... if things fail here, going there to do that... the good thing is i have a friend who lives in Toulouse ... i can get the name or google the above key words

I am sorry to hear about your operation and pray that the Lord Jesus Christ will bring you the relief you need. The world is getting worse as we see terrorists murdering innocent people, including children. But soon and very soon, Christ is returning and there will be no more sickness and bad people. Be enocuraged, I am a pastor and have had 12 major operations on my back. Yes, I have pain, but like you I think of the people with no legs and how lucky I am to have mine. God bless you. I understand what you are going through! The thing that scares me the most is my pain is so bad, I am popping pain pills like candy on top of wearing a 75 mcg fentenal patch. I have pain every minute of everyday. I just can't imagine living with this pain the rest of my life. I try to stay as active as possible with walking, but I can't get that far with having to sit down and take a break. And what drives me even more crazy is the fact that the pain pills don't make me sleepy, they make me stay WIDE awake, so I never can take them after 7pm if I want to sleep that night. My DR just gives me prescriptions for sleeping pills on top of that. After reading the things I have read, I am really not looking forward to making the decsion of having the fusion or not.
i had surgery in Jan. 2012 no relief . Surg. Repeated in April of the same year. Fusion with rods done at this time. Screw came loose after p.t. Surg done in Oct. of that same year by another neurosurgeon. He did help with the pain but now I cannot walk but a few feet at a time. Still have pain , walk like an 80 year old, bent over unable to stand up straight and still have pain. My advice is never have a fusion if at all possible. Try everything you can before that is done. I had two of the best neurosurgeons in my town. Good luck to you.

I am 4 weeks out from a 360 degree mini fusion. A few days before surgery my feet started to hurt horribly. Post surgery I woke up with no foot pain. I was thrilled. I stupidly did not realize the pain meds were masking the pain - which I assume is neuropathy. Recovery from surgery was pretty quick & surgeon stated I was ahead of schedule on recovery at 2 week post op checkup. Said foot pain would resolve. Foot pain is now almost unbearable & I'm taking pain meds only for foot pain relief which is marginal. I also take Cymbalta for depression & chronic pain. PT started last week and is mild though I feel it afterwards.
Between pain after PT & foot pain last night I actually hurt so bad my teeth chattered. My surgeon said I could give it a little more time or make appt w/ neurologist to discuss taking neurontin. I'm going to see the neurologist. I also have an appt w/ my regular doc to see about upping dosage of Cymbalta & check my B12 level.
I've read this foot pain can take months to years to resolve. Has anyone had a similar experience? Anyone tried accupuncture? Alpha lipoic acid? I'm desperate & sad.

I had lower Anterior lumbar fusion on April 23rd 2012 due to a fall and collasped my disk. Within secounds of injury both buttocks and right leg went to tingling and numbness 7mts later I had the surgery, and was told to expect to be healed within a year. This is sept.14th 2013 and the pain I have had everyday since the surgery is my lower back feels bruised from the pressures they applied to my spine while putting the cage in, I thought several weeks after surgery this would end. I still have the numbness in buttocks and tingling in my legs, waking up everyday concentrating on nothing but my lower back, knowing its not better. I believe I could have delt with the pain before the surgery. I can't live with this any longer as I have no pain meds to take and deal with workers comp doctors. What will it take for them to see I don't live to focus on my pain, I do not enjoy life anymore, but they force me to deal with it, what I need help with is there any one that has had anterior lower lumbar fusion with the bruising feeling and is not taking pain meds deal with it everyday. Most people I talk to that has had this surgery are on pain medications. If so why are they forcing me to deal with it without medications.

Jeff M (and others). I started PT 2 weeks ago and my therapistv(& owner of clinic) says that about half his spine fusion patients have neuropathy & in about a quarter of them it goes away after 6-9 months. No one mentioned this pre-surgery!

My regular doc started me on Neurontin 9 days ago. The foot pain is somewhat helped. I think I started PT too soon. I started less than 3 weeks after surgery & it was too much. I had to stop after 2 sessions. May start again this week.

My hubby had S1L5 fusion yesterday and im really worried after reading your posts. We have two sons 5 and 2 and i pray for their sake (and my sanity) that hids outcome is ok. We would be happy with just ok. I cant remember when last we did something fun with our kids or sat in a movie or enjoyed a meal seated together as a family. And our social life us non existant because of pain. My kids are crazy about daddy and im worried the revovery period will be tough on them as dad cannot play or pick them up. Taking care of the home and kids will be my sole redponsibility from now on and im already tired. Life is hectic. Pain us debilitating and takes its toll on the entire family. All the best to you all. Im placing my trust in the good Lord.

Rosa, I feel for you, but in the end our trust has to be in the Lord. After 12 major operations and having bars put in me I have been in quite some pain but with meds I am fine. And....... I have a great time playing with my grandson! Prayer and meds help! Keep smiling!

Rosa, I had posterior spinal fusion L3-L5 with rods, screws and bone pack in the mesh. I had this done over 2 yrs ago after having prior spinal surgery and 3 spinal injections, none of which really helped the intense pain in my legs. I was up and walking in a few days after surgery and now I am walking, exercising, and doing almost anything I want. Pain is very minor and I don't take any medications. So, there is hope, a lot depends on the surgeon, good luck and don't give up hope. He will be fine. He just needs to take it easy for a while after the surgery. Follow the doctors orders.

I've just 11 days post op lumber fusion L4/L5/S1 and also went through front, Mahosive scar and swelling, but so far back seems well, I'm just having lots of numbness, pain, pins & needles in left leg, it's feeling cold (not too touch) Just been back on to hospital and am awaiting a phone call on where to go next regarding leg pain, stomach pain and swelling easing and back showing signs of improvement, but a long road ahead getting it strong....

Kim I hear what your saying I have been there. I don't think you have any choice but surgery. You can't keep taking that amount of pain pills. They will eventually stop working and you will need more and more meds to control your pain. Also using the Fentanyl patch with multiple pain pills can be VERY dangerous. Your breathing can become very shallow and also you can aspirate. I say this because it happened to me. I have aspirated several times due to taking large amounts of pain meds to control the pain. When we are in that much pain all we can think about is stopping it. Good luck.

I had the spinal fushion for scholiosis, and have had a large knot on one side of my back amost covering that whole side apear couple weeks after. I asked the doctor who did the surgery, but he only said the knot was from the swelling and may reduce. When i went up there for my 6 month check up and he kept somehow avoiding the direct question my surgery was February of this year. I was wondering if there is anything that can make it go away or even just smaller. It is increadably painfull and it looks awful. If anyone has any information please let me know.
