17 years of extreme back/pelvic pain. MRI shows DDD 3 levels,L3/L4 bone on bone. Waiting over 1 1/2 yrs for Lumbar Pro Disc, now facing decision of fusion. Back Pain out of control. Pelvic muscle tightness trumps the backpain, crushed bladder/bowel from overtight muscles on the front protecting the back. L3/L4 nerve pinching causing rt leg/heel pain, junk pain, bladder pain. Anyone else experiencing this with L3/L4 damage. Should I wait for Prodisc or get fusion. Surgeon claims 2 levels above will blowout if I get fusion.

I would make sure the surgion know what he is doing or you could end up like me after my fusion. I have a nurogenic bladder with numbness on my left butt cheek and groin with bouts of incontince and having to self cath for the rest of my life. Make sure the surgion puts a drain in so there is no collection of fluid that can damage any nerves. I know your pain is out of control, I have been there and yes it does suck but sometimes the risk out does the benefit. I am 6 months post op with one more surgery left to do, they have to put a cage in. Just make sure you know all the risk

I just saw spine specialist again and am being referred back to surgeon for L3/L4 fusion. Pro Disc still not covered by Insurance. My back pain has been getting worse, PT after 1 1/2 years helped with pelvic pain and muscle spasms. Looking forward to the surgery, gonna go over all the particulars August 14th. Still working full time until then. I will keep you posted on the results.

I am 4 weeks post op, had the L3/L4 fusion with two cages. Went home with a catheter for 10 days, bladder was not functioning. Cath out week three, can finally void. Still dealing with a lot of pelvic pain from muscle tightness. Soon as my back heals I hopefully can start stretching those pelvic muscles. The surgery was successful so far, back pain less, muscle tension in back less. I will keep you posted on my progress.

5 months post op L3/L4 anterior lumbar fusion w/cages. Back to work part time, 2 PT therapist, one for pressure point release/massage, other for
pool strenghining/stretching. Over did it in rehab, set back couple more months. Main problems are muscle tightness/spasms in the lower back causing pelvic muscles to be overworked. Constant pain over bladder, intestines restricted from muscle tightness. Difficult to sleep w/pain,
pain worse when inactive or overactive, try to find a balance. Muscle relaxers and pain meds do not help. Water therapy, stretching, ice or heat the best releif I can find. Trying to stay positive and get back to work fulltime.

facing a spinal fusion after 12-29-07 accident. pain in lower back, pain encircling base of legs and pain in bursa. Taking fentanyl 75mcg and vicoprofen as needed, concerned that surgery may cripple me and have been told that surgery will never completely cure my pain. Life is complicated right now due to pain. Would like to get back to my active lifestyle of biking, hiking and skiing. any comments or help out there?

had 3x surgeries on l4-l5 and l5-s1 with the last being a fusion. have had many flare ups since fusion ( 2yrs ago) and just found out l3-l4 has ruptured. Oh i have DDD so, i guess all this will never completely go away. i also have severe muscle spasms in leg and pelvic area which i take 4mg zanaflex for but, the best thing that helps it is ice. started seeing acupunctuist about a month ago and its the best i've felt since my fusion. she has helped alot with the muscle spasms. the disk can ruputure above fusion but when i needed a wheelchair to walk i felt like there was no other option just hoping it would of releived more pain than it did..

Had l4 l5 s1 fusion on December 4 2012. Currently feel pain in that area included buttocks, legs and feet. IT gets worse the longer I seat. When I stand after seating I feel pain and pressure in lower back area. I try to stand most of the time. I also get some pain in my groin area. My l3 l4 is herniated with a small annular tear. Was advised by doctor to also have it fused. Any one have any advise. Stressed about having surgery again. But struggle with pain most of the day.
