There are 21 comments on the WNBC New York story from Oct 4, 2008, titled Study Looks At Link Between Sleep Apnea, Autism. In it, WNBC New York reports that:

Is there a connection between sleep apnea and autism? A new study showed that knowing about the link can benefit families.

Sleep apnea- multiple relations to Autism

In a June 1979 paper published in JADD, after reviewing basic autism research, Piggott presented as one possibility:

“… there is only one basic disturbance that in varying degrees affects many body systems and thus manifests in a variety of overlapping syndromes.”

In my opinion, obstructive sleep apnea, which underlies oxygen deprivation, ulcerative colitis/diarrhea, ear infections, reflux and gout is that basic disturbance.

Sleep apnea (and gout) patients have the same patient profile,“Overweight men and women after menopause” suggesting that children should have neither sleep apnea nor gout. About 18% of autistic children have high levels of uric acid implying ‘something is wrong’.

What seems to be wrong is bottle feeding. Literature reports bottle feeding is a risk for the above disorders (No papers written on gout?) and that early weaning seems to be a factor in the etiology of “infantile autism” suggest that bottle feeding could a change.

In addition to being disorders associated with regressive autism, diarrhea/colitis and ear infections are complications of measles and are adverse effects of MMR suggesting an MMR/autism relation.

I blame the regressive autism epidemic on refrigerated bottles and vaccines, not ‘frigid’ moms.

My son was diagnosed with sleep apnea as a baby and was on a monitor for 6 months. He was later diagnosed as a high functioning austic. I was wondering if there is any connection between the two? Does any one know of any studies on this?

I hear you. Autism is label is too broad. Not qualifiable for autism population based studies cited by some monkeys on this forum.

Many parents have witnessed regression (regressive autism) following vaccination combined with frequent ear infections, mostly MMR, DTaP, HIB Betc. This is many parents stories for regressive autism. To easy to say: parents are emotional and too wrong since this same parents are engineers, scientists, educated.

Dont even start with these kids GI issues which brings up bowel entercolitis.

May be that genetic is more applicable to aspergers as regressive autism is to vaccination or other environmental factors: such as the milk bottles. As for milk bottles, microwave could be added as an element by itself. Imagine all these chemicals leaching into the baby's bottle due to heat. Then, why in regressive autism, the emergence of autism is around 18-24 months. Why loss of already acquired skills? Howcome you could have been saying words and all of sudden no words anymore? This is very important.
One thing for sure: regressive autism numbers have skyrocketed and yet no one seems to know why? or at least be interested to research with an open mind.

Thank you once again raybone for your biased, unsubstantiated opinion. Vaccines do not cause autism; the reams of overwhelming data say so. You once again post nothing but anecdotal junk science in a feeble attempt to make a causal link that doesn't exist.

Well Raymond, if the autism label is too broad, then how does one even then know if the child has autism at all?? Does this ean you're in support of the theory the rates have jumped due to over-diagnosis?

What about the fact that they were given in single doses in close proximity to each other anyway? Thats the valid criticism that was levelled at that study. It was flawed and suspect.

Hi to all. My aunt suffered from sleep apnea for 3 years. Someone recommended her a doctor who treats this disease. After 2 months, she decided to go at this doctor. Now, she doesn't regret that she visited that doctor. She can sleep now. If you want to visit the clinic of this doctor you can schedule an appointment on http://www.jawpainhhelp.com . Has nothing to do with anything I posted. Has to do with you agreeing with NObamarama's post of links!
"Our findings suggest that MMR vaccination is not associated with an increased risk of pervasive developmental disorders"
"No association between measles vaccination and ASD was shown"
"Given the lack of evidence for any opioid peptiduria in children with autism, opioid peptides can neither serve as a biomedical marker for autism nor be employed to predict or monitor response to a casein- and gluten-free diet."
" There is no support for the hypothesis for a role of either MMR or thimerosal in causation, but the evidence on the latter is more limited."

And it's for all to see you considered it a "good post".

It all goes to show that Ross Coe doesn't even read the things he says he agrees with. If a title includes the words 'autism' and 'vaccine', he assumes that the article/study is proof that vaccines cause autism, when in actual fact it is saying the exact opposite.

Ross Coe is amazingly stupid, and has been debunked yet again.
