The autism rates are an estimate. There's a huge margin for misdiagnosis and in the USA, the rates aren't even obtained via diagnosis. They're obtained via the IEP's of the educational system. When autism was added to IDEA, the MR IEP's dropped. It's public record, anyone can validate that of any school district within the USA. Autism was always there, just never counted.

That aside, the notion of 'neurologically damaged' is offensive to many, including those who have ASD. My child is not damaged although he is neurologically different. Children with autism can read and one day they'll come across people as such who consider them 'damaged'. What is a travesty is those who have such an attitude towards those who have autism and lump them all together as damaged.

Let me just add that maybe people are not noticing all the neurologically damaged children, just chalking up their behaviors to bad parenting, etc. But when these children become teenagers and adults, and society must find ways to deal with and in many cases provide care for them, perhaps then steps will be taken to try to find out the CAUSE of this horrific crime on humanity. Oh, and since the autism rate in boys is 1 in 47, does that worry anyone? Anyone?

I apologize to any person with ASD that is offended by the term "damaged". I stand by my statement that we need to find out the CAUSE of autism, and stop the back and forth about do vaccinations cause autism or don't they? If not, great! Lets find out the cause. Dont you want to find out the cause? Seriously? Or are you only concerned with fighting those who believe that vaccines caused their child's neurological differences? Nobody wants to offend people with autism, least of all me. I use the term damaged because so many children are perfectly normal one day, then they begin to regress....suggesting something harmed them neurologically. The question is WHAT. And that is the travesty.

It's not as if efforts have not been made to find the cause. But there may not be a single cause. There are many disorders that have no known cause. Some disorders may never know the cause for generations to come. I think preventing deadly cancer ranks higher on finding cause than cause for autism. Regardless, the statement 'neurologically damaged' is offensive. My nephew was hit by a car, TBI, will never be the same but no one has ever referred to him as 'neurologically damaged'. It's degrading and only looks at the cant of a individual than what they can. Nobody talks that way about people or disorders except for autism. And it's out right plain wrong. I do not have a damaged child. It's also degrading to refer to autism as horrific crime on humanity. You're referring to fault when as of today, there's no one cause to blame. And as if autism is the only disability of which they grow up. Where do you think those with brian injuries from being hit from a car live? Where do you think all with MR live? Downs Syndrome? Just who do you think had to deal with them? It's been going on long before autism rates ever rose. And it's not as if a good portion couldn't take care of themselves, either. You're predicting fate of every single person with ASD and using the scare tactic that society will have to deal with it.
I don't really care what caused my child's autism. I do know what didn't cause it. If I knew, he'd still have autism. Preventing autism would be a good thing, but then one day people will have to prepare for that. There is prevention of Downs Syndrome. Most people don't agree with it.
Maybe autism was the end of the world for you. It wasn't for me or for many others.

Are YOU autistic? Because you seem to be. Name-calling when you can't present a valid argument could be one of the signs of autism. I have worked in biotech for many years, and one thing that has NEVER been proven is that vaccines cause autism. So perhaps YOU'RE (contraction for 'you are', not the possessive 'your', meaning something that belongs to you) the one with their head up their butt.

It is very insensitive of you to use the word "autistic" as a pejorative.

Sometimes being insensitive is all a person has left. Common sense being so rare, and all. There aren't any vaccines for stupid.

So right Mary. people have no idea how much damage vaccines cause and they don't want to know. Just read the posts and you'll see heads buried in sand, up butts and a few with bags over their heads. Its the reason autism numbers will reach 100% and we'll still be debating because too many people turn their backs, close their eyes, rationalize, deny or are just plain stupid. Parents of injured children have been crying out for decades and they are mostly ignored. Even monetary compensation doesn't cure brain damage.

Damaged is correct, injury too. Ignore the nasty bozo's on here that spew anger at ever vaccine comment as if they know something we don't. Look at it as comedy because its a laugh to read their stool samples.

Yes well trying to reason with you is like trying to teach a pig to sing, it wastes my time and annoys the pig. So I'll leave you to your singing, because I'm not wasting any more time on you.
