That must be terrible. Allergies, huh? I do not intend any rudeness, but does the place where you live have cockroaches? I learned with my son's allergic reactions as a baby, the hard terrible way, that cockroaches are more highly allergenic than even cigarette smoke, cat dander, dust and mold combined cannot compare to the horrendous effect that cockroaches can have especially to young ones. I am so sorry to hear you two suffering so. I hope you will find an answer.

Daphne,
This may be way off, but my daughter was also on Albuterol, Pulmicort and Singulair.(I actually found this site to ask if anyone experienced enlarged tonsils and adenoids from albuterol use). Over the last several months her breathing has gotten consistently worse, the worst at night while sleeping, culminating in long periods of apnea followed by coughing. I found out that her tonsils and adenoids were blocking her airway due to being so enlarged. She just recently had a tonsil & adenoid reduction and she has not had a problem since coming out of surgery. I know that prior to her surgery her doctor did hear wheezing, and I am not a doctor, but I am wondering if the wheezing was the sound of air working to get past her tonsils and adenoids. It is just a long shot, but I would say get a referral to an Ear, Nose & Throat doc and see what they have to say. Hope this helps. We are finally able to sleep through the night! |

I was diagnosied with ADHD as a child and I have to say that after seeing my 18 mo old son on it for a week... it was FAR worse than ADHD. He had a complete change in personality going from a generally agreeable infant, to absolutly hating everything. He went from going to bed at around 7:30 to refusing to go to bed at all, he (and consequently me) would stay up until 2:30am when he would fall asleep watching tv. He would scream all day long if one thing did not go his way. I got less sleep that week than when he was a newborn. Never again will I let a doctor put any of my kids on that stuff. For future reference does anyone know of a good alternative? |

Try using an older version of an asthma med, like dry powder inhalers. Remember, these are steroids. Don't use fast-acting ones too much- they'll drive your kid nuts. I'm up at 3:00 AM because I started taking singulair. Used to sleep like a rock untiil 4 days ago. Stopping all medications tomorrow.

Please understand that people die from asthma attacks. Just like any drug regiment sometimes it takes a bit to find the right combination. If your primary doctor will not work with you on this go see a pulmonologist. That is a lung specialist. If allergies kick off your asthma, Please see an allergist. They can give allergy shots or other remedies that can help control the side effects of allergies and hopefully that can lessen the attacks.

both my children were on abuterol and singular. They were OFF THE WALL anytime they had abuterol so they switched them to Xopenex and it works great with no ill side effects. as far as the singular my son was a totally different person on it had stomach aches all the time was disagreeable and just negative about eveything we thought it was a faze and then did some research and found out it was the singualr we took them off and they were back to there sweet selves....

My 4 yr old granddaughter was given pulmicort, albuterol and singular. I told my daughter it is too much stuff for her to take. She is so tiny. I don't see where what they have given her so far has done any good so they end up giving her more crap to take. My 28 yr old daughter acts like I don't know what I am talking about. I am scared something will happen to Kaley.

my daughter lily was a 29 week preemie she is now 8 months old and has had terrible asthma since feb she has been hospitalized twice she is on pulmicort, prelone, atrovent, alb uterol, nasonex, and singulair the singulair has doen wonders for the asthma she went from crying all night and needing albuterol every 2 hours to only twice a day on the albuterol, the thing we cant seem to get away from is the albuterol every time we try to stop it totally she has a cold or something and goes back to 2-4 hours we have been doing this since feb and feel like she will never be of it totally can a child become dependent on it ?
MY PREEMIE OF 30 WKS IS NOW 4 1/2 SEEN A PULMINOLIGIST LAST WEEK ON WAS PRESCRIBED PULMICORT 2X DAILY AND ALBUTEROL AS NEEDED BUT SHE IS NOT SICK/COUGH OR ANYTHING HE SAID HER CHEST X-RAY SHOWED CHANGES DOES THAT SOUND OKAY ? AND WILL SHE HAVE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
lilys x-rays also showed changes but they were from her lung disease and they only have her on so many meds because she is having alot of problems with her sats, wheezing, coughing and rapid breathing ,I have never heard of them putting a kid who was not having breathing issues on those drugs but its always individual and they must have reason to believe these drugs are needed.
