TCM & Arthritis
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) categorizes arthritis as a blockage in the smooth flow of Qi and Blood throughout the energetic pathways in the body. The disorder is classified as Bone Bi (an impediment that affects the bones and joints). Pain and reduced range of motion in TCM indicates the presence of a blockage; conditions such as arthritis, herefore, are called Painful Obstruction Syndromes.
The immediate cause of Bi syndromes is environmental. Pathogenic Influences of Wind, Cold, and Dampness are said to penetrate the body's defenses and lodge in the muscles, tendons, and joints. They create obstruction and cause pain, stiffness, and other symptoms. The confluence of these pathogens in the affected areas also can lead to the generation of Heat, manifesting as inflammation. Long-term Bi syndrome can lead to the formation of Phlegm and the deformation of bones and joints.
While the Qi usually is strong enough to resist invasion by environmental pathogens, several internal disharmonies in the Qi and the Blood can predispose one to Bi syndrome.
Individuals under stress frequently suffer from obstructed flow of Qi and Blood in the body because stress affects the Liver, which is responsible for the smooth flow of Qi. Obstruction creates an environment in which the Pathogenic Influences can invade and lodge.
Insufficient Blood and Qi can lead to the body's energetic pathways being completely filled, allowing pathogens to invade.
A genetic predisposition, poor diet, overwork, and insufficient exercise can weaken the Zang Organs, such as the Kidney or Spleen (responsible for supplying the kinds of Qi that maintain overall resistance) allowing Pathogenic Influences.

Studies show that wheatgrass juice has been proven over many years to benefit people in numerous ways: cleansing the lymph system, building the blood, restoring balance in the body, removing toxic metals from the cells, nourishing the liver and kidneys and restoring vitality. One ounce of wheatgrass juice has the vitamin and mineral equivalent of 2.2 pounds of fresh vegetables. It contains most of the vitamins and minerals needed for human maintenance, including the elusive B12. Many of the benefits of wheatgrass juice stem from the fact that it is a living food, which is a complete protein with about 30 enzymes and is approximately 70% crude chlorophyll

Furthermore Alfalfa has a proven cholesterol lowering effect. Steroidal anti-inflammatory action is suggested by its content of plant steroids, and by some research that found an estrogenic effect on ruminants (grazing animals). Alfalfa has also been shown to possess antibacterial action against gram negative bacteria (such as Salmonella typhi), and it contains at least one protein with known antitumor activity.

Arthritis is a crippling disease that is affecting millions of people. However just because you have been diagnosed with arthritis doesn't mean it's the end of the world. Medications such as Fosamax have been designed to help people deal with their symptoms of arthritis. However just be careful, since many Fosamax lawsuits have been filed because of the side effects of such drugs.

Arthritis (from Greek arthro-, joint +-itis, inflammation; plural: arthritides) is a form of joint disorder that involves inflammation of one or more joints.[1][2] There are over 100 different forms of arthritis.[3][4] The most common form, osteoarthritis (degenerative joint disease), is a result of trauma to the joint, infection of the joint, or age. Other arthritis forms are rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and related autoimmune diseases. Septic arthritis is caused by joint infection.
The major complaint by individuals who have arthritis is joint pain. Pain is often a constant and may be localized to the joint affected. The pain from arthritis is due to inflammation that occurs around the joint, damage to the joint from disease, daily wear and tear of joint, muscle strains caused by forceful movements against stiff painful joints and fatigue.

For some, it's as easy as giving up wheat and gluten. I was experiencing joint pains for the past few years. I do have Hashimoto's disease - Hypothyroidism, so going gluten free has been very beneficial to my overall health and well-being. I noticed a big difference in just a few days. I never knew diet could play such an important part in some diseases/disorders but I can say for certain that being gluten free is the way to go if you have been experiencing Psoriasis, thyroid disease or other auto-immune disorder. Any one with these conditions will do better on a gluten-free diet. It can greatly reduce inflammation and perhaps even eliminate it.

There are over 100 types of arthritis. Here is a description of some common ones, together with the causes:
Osteoarthritis - cartilage loses its elasticity. If the cartilage is stiff it becomes damaged more easily. The cartilage, which acts as a shock absorber, will gradually wear away in some areas. As the cartilage becomes damaged tendons and ligaments become stretched, causing pain. Eventually the bones may rub against each other causing very severe pain.

Rheumatoid arthritis - this is an inflammatory form of arthritis. The synovial membrane (synovium) is attacked, resulting in swelling and pain. If left untreated the arthritis can lead to deformity. Rheumatoid arthritis is significantly more common in women than men and generally strikes when the patient is aged between 40 and 60. However, children and much older people may also be affected. Swedish scientists published their study in JAMA in October 2012, explaining that patients with rheumatoid arthritis have a higher risk of blood clots in the first ten years after diagnosis.

Infectious arthritis (septic arthritic)- an infection in the synovial fluid and tissues of a joint. It is usually caused by bacteria, but could also be caused by fungi or viruses. Bacteria, fungi or viruses may spread through the bloodstream from infected tissue nearby, and infect a joint. Most susceptible people are those who already have some form of arthritis and develop an infection that travels in the bloodstream.

Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA)- means arthritis that affects a person aged 16 or less. JRA can be various forms of arthritis; it basically means that a child has it. There are three main types:
1. Pauciarticular JRA, the most common and mildest. The child experiences pain in up to 4 joints.
2. Polyarticular JRA affects more joints and is more severe. As time goes by it tends to get worse.
3. Systemic JRA is the least common. Pain is experienced in many joints. It can spread to organs. This can be the most serious JRA.
