if you cant get it prescribed, just find a teenager that sells drugs and you can get it from them for about $2-5 each, its not the cheapest and not legal but it will help your pain.

I take MS Contin 90 mg 3 times a day I used to get ACTIQ pops 400mcg 5x a day but when the FDA changed the guidelines now my insurance wont pay for the ACYIQ and I cant find the right combo of meds to fix my pain I am gonna ask my Dr about KADIAN and see what he says. I have Lupus Fibromyalgia and a Kidney disorder that makes my kidneys produse stones all the time, I also fell at a store and screwed up my lower back I get 12 triggerpoint injections per month and occasionally I get epidural injection too I hope this drug will allieveate my pain. But why would some one cook up morphine pills and inject them its stupid!

Hello, I started kadian 2 1/2 weeks ago. My neurologist started me on 30 mg twice daily. I had some pretty annoying side effects, which tapered off slightly. The pain in my spine was FINALLY relieved, but no relief in my buttocks/hip/leg. After 5 hours the pain in my spine would return. I saw my neuro for a follow up after two weeks, and showed him the list of side effects... and all of the other medication I was taking to counter act these effects. I was hoping he would prescribe me something else, or something for the breakthrough pain. Instead, he increased my dose to 60mg twice a day. Now the side effects are nearly unbearable. I wake up every morning with a headache or migraine (had 5 migraines in the last 2 1/2 weeks) severe nausea, and some vomiting. I seem to feel better after a few hours, but like I said its near unbearable. I also have been very irritable, sometimes downright mean, and that is SO not like me. I want to stop the Kadian, and go back to Norco... but I'm not sure what to do.

Will these terrible side effects go away?

Is Kadian safer to take than Norco?(I'm thinking in terms of addiction and such) Since my dose was increased... I have had ZERO pain in my back and legs, and kadian doesn't give me any sort of "buzz" which leads me to believe that it is safer to take than the other narcotics my docs have tried.

Any opinions would be very helpful... especially any in regards to side effects, and how to handle or decrease them.

Thank you

I've just started Kadian; bulging/herniated disc aprox 6 years now. Switched from hydrocodone to Kadian two days again.....still waiting for relief. When do I throw the towel in? What is break-through pain? I'm still hurting!

My neuro had me come in after 2 weeks to see how the med was working... break though pain (to me anyway) is pain that is not relieved, or at least comes back before I can take my next dose... since the original dose wasn't working for me, he increased it. The new dose seems to be working great for pain relief, however I'm having terrible trouble with the side effects!!

Then I guess I'm having breakthrough pain, altho, to me it's simply not working. I'm on 100 mg in the am. and 50 mg at night now. I feel nervous about complaining to my doctor about it not working, he says that it's alot of morphine. But my vicoprophen worked better, I have had to take them more often, but at least I got some relief. The constipation and urinating are both my side effects, but Phillips Milk of Magnesia works great for me. I just wonder how many days or weeks I should stay on this Kadian in order to give it a chance to work. Thanks for your imput.

Its been 3 or four weeks since I started kadian. The side affects have almost vanished. I still have some breakthrough pain, which I intend to talk to my doctor about. I'm having almost no trouble urinating now, I'd say its about 90% improved. I take prilosec otc daily for stomache upset, and haven't had a migraine in quite some time. Woke up with a headache this morning, but it went away without any other meds. As for constipation, I have started going everyday again. Still not like I had before Kadian, but I go. It seems to me that the side affects wear off after about two weeks. My problem was that two weeks after starting Kadian, my doctor increased my dose, so the affects came back, and took another two weeks to taper off. I currently take 60mg twice a day, so thats 120mg a day. I read somewhere that when ingested, morphine is not absorbed by the body the same way as when used in an IV. 120mg a day through an IV would be massive, but ingested, your body only absorbs a small percentage. I don't remember the exact amount that's absorbed... and I don't even know if its true (just something I read in a forum) But don't be afraid to tell your doctor if you are still in pain. I think pain relief would come right away, not after a few days or weeks, so you may need to be increased, and its not like your getting "high" off of Kadian, since its formulated to relieve pain, without the high that most narcotics give. Good Luck :)

This is a link, where I read the information about the absorption of ingested morphine:

This is also a good site, with a lot of great information, and a very understanding community of pain sufferers... hope the link works Good Luck!

After 5 years of chronic back & hip pain I have finally been sent to a pain management doctor. Up until last week my pcp has just been treating me with first vicodin & then percocets along with muscle relaxers.
The pain has progressively gotten worse & I just can't take it anymore.
Went to the PM doctor on Tuesday. I think he is going to save my life.
He prescribed Kadian & Roxicodone. Today is the first day taking them. So far not much difference in the pain compared the percocet. So I am hoping and assuming it takes time?
I just feel like this new doctor is giving me some hope at some possible new treatments that will someday make the pain bearable.
I haven't been able to work in 3 years which has depressed me beyond belief.
I have fibromyalgia, bulging disc, arthritis in my hips, knees, back & neck. Somedays/most days I wake up wishing I hadn't & wondering why?
I have a glimmer of hope now.

I have been taking "Kadian" with "Lyrica" for 3 months now. Some days are better than others but it has really helped with my chronic pain. I still need narcotics for breakthrough pain, but I don't feel like dying anymore! Anyone that even thinks about chopping up and snorting or smoking this stuff has a very big problem they should seek professional help or they are going to kill themselves.
