it is going on 8 weeks. i had ortho surgery on my shoulder. called bankart surgery. plus had my bicep tendon cut and reattached. i had less pain before the surgery. the worse is i can not still layhobby down to sleep. my arm gets so stiff plus the pain. also i notice my body likes the cool air from the ac. but my shoulder and arm do not. it gets so stiff from the cold its not funny. even a fan blowing on you gets annoying. i cant wait to just to get better and go back to work. ive been out of work since april 1st had surgery on 06/03/08 and the doctor told me i would not return to work till November. i need to find a new hobby. this is getting old. good luck

I had an arthroscopic SLAP repair and decompression on 6/25/08. Of course, surgery was on my dominant side. After the first week post-op the pain has been less than before surgery...maybe because arm is in a sling and I'm not using it at all. I had the nerve block, but don't think I'd do that again because I had diaphram paralysis and that was kinda scary. My question is...how bad is the PT going to be? So far it's been soft tissue massage and pendulum exercises. Will start the real hard work in 2 more weeks when the sling comes off. I'm a little nervous about the PT, but looking forward to getting rid of the sling. I can't sleep with that thing on!

pt is a lot of stretching and diffrent exercises you gonna be in pain for awhile. make sure you ice your shoulder a lot during the day. helps keep down swelling which will take some of that pain away.make sure you are moving your fingers and your wrist while in the sling. ihad surgery on my right side and i am also right handed. my surgery was a little more involed because i had the bicep cut and reattached.plus bankart surgery.it is amazing how fast your muscle goes from not useing it. my arm looks like the lunch room ladies arm. no muscle at all all flab.still cant sleep at night that the worse arm is stiff and sore all day i had my surgery june 3rd 2008

I am having shoulder surgery on the 28th. How long do you have to keep it in the sling and how long before you can drive?
It takes about 3 to 5 weeks befor the sling comes off. and befor you can drive.or depending on what kind of pain med the doctor has you on.and how much you take weather you can drive.

I had surgery on right rotator cuff a year and two months ago. It still aches but no pain. You must keep up with your exercise--most important. Just had my left shoulder done in April. Can't sleep in bed yet but getting better. Time and exercise I guess. It is frustrating though because it takes so much time for shoulders to heal.

I have had 9 shoulder surgerys total 5 in the last 5 years. even though my last one was 12-06 I am still having alot of pain. It hurts when I try to blow dry my hair or do anything with my shoulders. I had a great Dr. from the cleavland clinic and a grat family Dr.who really understands the pain and helped me with pain mangment but now I have a new Dr. who seems to not give a shit about the pain and does'nt think i need pain meds. has anyone else had 9 shoulder surgerys?

Get yourself a TENS machine. Costs about $60-$70 on the Internet. I had both arms done and this little machine is a life saver.

<quoted text> My surgery was much less invasive as arthroscopic calcification removal and bone spur bone scraping but no tear. I do remember that first month post surgery worrying constantly that I was tearing or injuring what they'd repaired. I was diligent about doing exactly what the dr. said as didn't want frozen shoulder. I think I started to figure out the difference between "good pain" and "bad pain" although it always hurt.....I am now 3 months post and my constant annoying numbness/pain radiating through my arm has mostly subsided except at night and first thing after waking up. This only happened when I stopped PT. I went on vacation for 3 weeks and I truly think that now that I'm allowing it to rest, it's getting better. I don't have full ROM back but it's pretty good. I know the tear repair is sooo much harder in terms of recovery so not sure my comment is helpful, but because my surgery was less invasive and I'm just now feeling better, would imagine you have a ways to go. I know it sometimes feels like you'll never get there. good luck!
Try purchasing a TENS machine off the Internet. It has worked wonders for my pain. I have had both arms done within a year of other. Coming along but very slow.

Doctor told me the pain in right shoulder was from the surgery the gas travels upward and to walk and it would help to release. I was in hospital 1 night after appendemy.

I can tell you this. I had a massive SLAP repair in Dec. of 2005. My whole Labrum was practically torn off (we're talking anterior and posterior tear). So... surgeons ususally tighten your capsule after surgery and this is one of the buggers that makes your physical therapy almost unbearable! I will tell you that the pain after shoulder surgery is excruciating. They usually administer a nerve block before you go into surgery and it lasts most of the day. When it wears off (usually when you are sleeping) is when you experience the most uncomfortable feelings of your life! In short, shoulder surgery is terribly painful and not fun. Any doctor or individual who tells you otherwise is ridiculous. I'm actually getting my other shoulder done this october and I cannot tell you how nervous I am about it! If you don't have a shrink to deal with depression...... GET ONE!

I

I had rotator cuff surgery in March- it was the absolute worst! the pain was unbearable- still have constant ache and throbbing, I have much more movement but still very limited and stiff. Dr.thinks I need surgery to release the shoulder capsule and remove scar tissue, doesnt tell me how involved it is but I would need P.T. everyday for four weeks. I hear you with being nervous about your upcoming surgery- I never experienced anything like shoulder pain- Good Luck and thanks for your response.
