I had a partial tear of the supra spinatus and was in a sling for six weeks. I drove after a couple of weeks, but only with one arm and I don't recommend this, your insurers won't pay if you have an accident.

The reason why your shoulder hurts is because the "air" is technically a gas, and gas rises. It's just looking for a way to escape from your body, this is normal.

Hey Ron, very few people tell us exactly when the pain goes away and when we get back into sleeping properly. I am just over three months and have now started sleeping through again. Hang in there it is immanent.

I have had 4 surgeries on my shoulder. Left shoulder. I had a labrum repair, capsular plication, repeat labrum repair and finally a debris removal. First surgery was 10-31-07, then 8-14-09, 8-27-09 and finally 2-17-10. You see that I had back to back surgeries in August??!!! I have about 50% range of motion and that is on a good day. I still have popping, grinding and squeaking coming from my shoulder....My doc told me today that he was sending me to another doctor in his practice since he is now not sure what to do to make my shoulder right!! Can you believe that??? This guy has been in my shoulder 4 times and now tells me that he does not know what to do!! WTF??? Now I have to wait about 6 weeks before anything else can be done. I have to sit in pain with popping, squeaking and grinding till they want to open me up for a fifth time. has anyone else had multiple surgeries and if so, can you tell me if there is a chart that tells you the outcome of multiple shoulder surgeries?? Thanks!!
I have had two surgeries both I had a shoulder dislocation, SLAP tear, tendon and muscle tears. The first surgery was almost two years ago with no relief from pain exactly a year later after many complaints of pain squeaking and unable to use my lft shoulder he finally listened and I needed the second surgery. The first surgery I had two anchors the second he put in four. Nine months later I am still in serious pain and having squeaking, popping, and can not lift over three pounds with this shoulder and my doc won't send me to get another opinion and tells me it is in my imagination and there id nothing wrong with my shoulder. I also have pulling on it. I don't sleep and I hate taking pain meds. I don't know what to do anymore.

I had rotary cuff surgury 15+yrs ago and bone graft to add to the socket...I still have pain and especially if I use it for simple tasks like sewing a button on a shirt....it will start to tingle and then goes numb..... But I dont have complete mobility and I did go bk to the dr. and they x-rayed and he said that if they operated on it again....***I COULD LOSE MY LEFT SHOULDER COMPLETELY***

I had 2 surgurgies on it the 1st one never took.

I am wondering if its normal for tingling/numbness ..???

~~ It only goes numb when i have to hold or use it in the same position...like I mentioned when i sew a button....

I also had my left shoulder worked on suprascapular nerve release and a decompression. Prior to the surgery the surgeon stated he was hardly doing any work on the shoulder so recovery would be quick. Well 8 weeks in to my recovery and the pain is 10 times worse then before. Now the Doc is sending me to a pain specialist. I agree 100% with your statement I would have never had the surgery if I was giving a realistic view of what recovery is like from shoulder surgery. I would tell anyone unless your shoulder is falling off don't elect surgery.
I had surgery over 2 yrs. ago. Some bone spurs & a small tear. Pain is worse now than it was before surgery. Dr. says it it arthritis. I have arthritis in my back & wrist. That pain comes & goes. The pain in my shoulder came & never went away. Hard to believe it's arthritis. It's also frozen. I take 1 pain pill a day. It does nothing but make me sick to my stomach. Don't know why I bother. I suppose if I took more, it would help, but worry about taking too many. I used to take 3 a dy. Didn't make me as sick to my stomach as just 1. I take Tramadol.

Hi everyone, I had shoulder surgery 5 weeks ago, bone shaving(3mm on humerous), biceps tendon, clavicle resection and rotatot cuff. Still in a sling but this can come off within the next 10 days. Having physio 3 times per week . I am in so much pain it's driving me mad, not sleeping, getting up in the middle of the night to take pain meds etc. Can only sleep on my back but then I can't get myself up, hubby has to help me, when I get up for the first time in the morning feels like my shoulder is broken. Have cried so much. The physio is agony but we are taking it really slowly due to the pain. Saw surgeon yesterday, for him everything is good, surgery went well. Problem lies with the tendon and all the muscles which are practically frozen due to so much damage before surgery (was being treated for herniated disc which wasn't the cause of the pain).Cannot lift my left arm above my waist, no way can I put it behind my back.It is just such slow going, feels like I'm not making any progress.I suppose the fact that we all seem to be in a similar position indicates it's sort of normal after this type of surgery. Would love to be pain free and sleep through the night.

I had to partial tears repaired 2 years ago and I have the same tingleness and numbness in the same way you have. Since my surgery ive had an MRI, a CT scan and my doctor says he does not know why I am continuing to have this problem I am getting a second opinion next month.

I had surgery April 9 for a slap tear on my shoulder. Saw my therapist 5 days later. He removed bandaged and did stretching with my arm. Didn't get much movement, but it felt good to get the sling off.
It's been 5 weeks now and my shoulder still hurts. Haven't had a good night sleep. The doctor put me on anti-inflammatory pills (piroxicam) because she's afraid my shoulder is starting to freeze.
I'm concerned it's not healing properly. Two weeks after the surgery, I slightly jerked my elbow back and the pain was horrible. I haven't had that pain again so hopefully no damage done?
I also get this clicking pain on my shoulder when I move. I get it constantly as if something is sliding. When I mentioned this to my therapist, he said it might be the tendons sliding on the ridges and it should get better. Has anyone had this and did it get better?
it's been 4 1/2 wks since I had a SLAP repair & a acromoplasy. I wore sling for 3 wks. I'm still sleeping in recliner cause I can't lay flat cause my shoulder feels like its dropping back/pulling / aching. Recliner is the best way to sleep with a pillow propped up under the arm. I go to PT 3 times a wk. it's very important not to let your shoulder freeze up!! Some days I'm stiffer than others & PT hurts worse, but you have to do it! PT says I'm doing good & the pain, clicking, pain into collar none, etc....is all normal. I'm dealing with pain down my arm, forearm, elbow & into hand, but i think that's from the carpel tunnel surgery I need done next!(Had other hand done in 08) it can all be soooo depressing, but we all have to hang in there & be patient. They said this is a slow recovery!!!

It's been 1 yr and a month since I had my rotator cuff repaired. It's still sore to the bone, it pops and clicks at time.. I've since complained to my surgeon and he did an MRI and said nothing was torn again.. So my question is why is it still sore to the bone and hurts if nothing's retorn?

I had shoulder surgery 09/20/2012 (severed supraspinatus tendon) that included 4 installed anchors. I was in an immobilizer for 5 weeks before any p/t, and I progressed well for the first three months afterwards. In January I was allowed to start some light weights, and that went well into early March. Since then, pain and restricted mobility has increased to cause sleepless nights and limited activites. It's like I have digressed four months! I'm taking 8 to 12 ibuprofen tabs daily, and ice only helps while it's applied. A recent MRI suggests no "surgical issues", and my surgeon wants to do exploratory surgery. He thinks the MRI may not be revealing everything. I'm not sure if I agree, or should I search for a second opinion.

Any like experience or ideas?

I had a slap repair with an anchor in the same place where the bicep tendon attach on April 3, i stop taking the med cause make me sick but the pain still there even my arm is a little bit loose. I can raise it more than 15 degrees cause the sharp pain take over between my bicep and tricep. Also had a spur remove and clavicle resecion and if i try to raise my arm it feels the same as before the surgery. Still cant sleep well, didnt start PT yet if i touch my shoulder softly hurt, this is so frustrating!!! And is my strong arm. Also the shoulder pallet hurt alot, muscle spasm every day..... Hope start getting better soon
