I had a right shoulder cuff surgery 12 years ago. I then went for 6 weeks of physical therapy. The pain never went away.
After 5 years I returned to the same doctor who stated I should have another rotator cuf surgery as the spur had returned. I again had physical therapy for 6 weeks.
It has now been 15 years and I am still on a class 111 narcotic for pain but don't want any more surgery and have decided to learn to live with the pain.
If anyone has an idea of what else can be done, I would love to hear it.
I tried prp therepy on my elbow and had some relief. Its where they inject your own white blood cells in the injured area, promots healing, muscle growth,

I had slap surgery and bursitis surgery Jan 14th. Was told no restrictions by the surgeon. Do arm lifts using your other arm by laying on back and you should be able to get your arm to touch the bed and if you cannot do this the dr will be cranky and upset with you! I can almost do this but after my arm burns from by shoulder to elbow! Is this normal?

I had surgery jan.3. 2011 so far everything is good..I have pain but this normal after surgery.....no horror story so far..my wife help me raise my are three times a day with good range of motion...I take my pain pills faithfully ..go back to doc in ten days....I hope this holds true and I have a full recovery...I will start rehab soon..will keep you guys posted
No horror stories for me either. Surgery Jan 14th and just had follow up. Good range and cleared to return to work. I do have plenty of pain but doc said that could last a few months since so much bone was shaved. My opinion if you follow dr orders you should be fine.

I am in exactly the same time frame... right now I am in PT three times a week and have been for 5 weeks.. I do not feel like I am making progress... I am digilently doing my exercizes at home.
I am told to be patient and presistent...
I was lead to believe that I would have my normal range of motion by 8 weeks... I am still in pain and do not have anything close to the ROM I had before surgery... I see the Doctor in a few days. I am going to ask for an MRI so a comparison can be made of before and after.... If he is hesitent, I'll insist. I am hopeful, but will go for a second opinion in 4 more wes if I do not improve.

It has been 5 wks. for me. When did your pain finally go away? I had spurs & a tear. I have as much pain now as I did a wk. after surgery. Anyone out there. When will it go away?

I am 31. I do not have doctor in my country. I am suffering from a right shoulder pain for 3 years after making a bad move. It hurts all night long till the early morning. It also hurts all day long. Now the left shoulder starts to hurt also. Can somebody tell me what medicine I should take and what exercice I should do?
I finally believe that such pain cannot be healed.

Did you have your MRI? Did your pain get any better? It's now 8 wks. for me. I have pain 24/7. Doing my re-hab like I should. Can't raise my arm much higher than my shoulder. Hoping for good news from you. I also had bone spurs removed along w/a few other things.

Had bankart surgery on shoulder 2/8/11. The
First 3 days pain was so unbearable! Percocet didnt work unless i took mortrin in between dozes. By the 4th day I ditched the percocet it didnt work plus it made me have crazy dreams. I sucked up the pain and now I just take motrin. I still have some pain, it hurts now, but its bearable, Hurts mostly when I sleep. I also take braggs organic apple cider vinegar that helps with inflammation. Still in a shoulder immobolizer and do one exercise twice a day advised my dr. I do agree with others its been a painful recovery!!

Had arthroscopic shoulder impingement surgery 1/27/11. Had a bone spur removed, small tears on muscle and rc smoothed out. First 5 days pretty rough. Went back to work with a sling on day 7. Started PT ( Stretching, ROM exercises)at day ten. Now 3.5 weeks out, very little pain, mostly only when I keep it immobile at work to keep me from lifting. Nights are a little rough, but advil works and keeping it propped up on a pillow in the armpit helps to keep it immobile. Good luck everyone, glad I didn't have a rc surgery, they are indeed tough!

Ya'll get some organic apple cider vinegar (Braggs) trust me it helps with the pain, trust me. I am now about 4 weeks post op, and can sleep all night without meds! Actually I hardly take meds maybe motrin sometimes. Haven't started PT yet and still in shoulder immob, but only have minimal pain at times. I still do little exercise advised by Dr 2 to 3X a day. Post again once I start PT, now that's probably going to be a whole different ball game! Good luck!

I am 6 months from rotator cuff surgery and feel like I have turned the corner. The doctor said to give it a year... and I have religiously tried to adhere to the instructions he gave me . One thing I notice from many of you is when you began PT. I went to physical therapy the next day after surgery, and 3 times a week for 12 weeks. Aside from being very cautious with that shoulder, I think the answer for better healing lies with the physical therapy. At times some discomfort, but no pain. Wish the same for all of you.

Hey! A little over 2 months still achy upper arm and shoulder gradually better overall. Doing P T. At home daily and at PT clinic weekly. Therapist says strength better but upper range of motion more stiff and painful!! So must do higher range stretches..

I injured both of my shoulders about 3years ago.
I got multiple shots, PT for many many months but it got worse and worse that I had to have a shoulder surgery on my left 7months ago.( after suffering 2years)
It was very bad case that my left shoulder had huge tear and totally frozen.
After the surgery, the pain was pretty bad for 3-4months and recovery was extremely slow.
I was on PT for over 5 months and I didn't miss 1 single time.
My shoulder beginning to show a lot of progress after 4month.
So, I decied I am going to fis my right this time!
The right side is not as bad as left side. It has full motion and pain is minimal but extrmely weak!
But since I had this problem for 3years and still not much better, Dr. sugested a surgery on my right.
He said 'If it's not getting better for all these years, it won't be better'
So I got sugery date (the earliest date)and done pre-op and everything BUT my problem starts from here!
After the Dr's visit, my left shoulder which already had sugery, started to hurt!
It's like burning pain! I have not had pain after the surgery.
I called Dr's dffice, they said don't take pill, use ice.
5days later my left shoulder still hurts and I have problem with moving and everything.
Also I am very worried how I can go on with another suergery right now...
At least one of my shoulder should work!
I wanted postpone my surgery, at least until my left side get better but since it's weekend, there is no one can answer my question.
This is Sunday, and I am scheduled for surgery on Tuesday... 2days later.
How can I cancel (or postpone) my surgery?
Do I have to pay some kind of fine?
How much damage am I getting?
Again it's weekend, so no one can answer me...
Please help!

ice it 4 times a day for 25 min. each time (I used a cold pack) and take motrin 200mg 3 times a day with your pain medicine and that should help your pain. make sure you eat though because taking to much motrin or pain meds on an empty stomach might make you sick. (no more than 800mg of motrin per day) i hope this helps.

I had shoulder surgery 3 wkd ago , clavicle shaved, decompression and small rotator cuff repair. I am surprised at how well I have recovered. I started PT 3 days after surgery. Started with pendulums and PT stretching but gentle. I wore the sling only on day 1. I have pretty good range of motion. I can't lift my arm forward and up with out significant pain on the top of my shoulder. Sleeping is hard. I feel the most pain from moving around at night. I can sleep on my stomach with some tightness in shoulder. I look for answers online as to when or if I will have full recovery from surgery and it horrified me to read all of the posts. I am glad to read that your recovery hasn't been too bad. Good luck and since your ahead of my in your surgery/recovery time, I look forward to reading your recovery update

I hate to tell you, I haven't recovered. The Dr. told me last wk. I now have a frozen shoulder. My surgery, 12 wks. ago today, was rather minor. A small tear & some bone spurs. I have terrible pain, 24/7. He is trying a new pain med. Don't know what the future holds. I go back in 4 wks. I had shoulder surgery 20 yrs. ago on my other shoulder, it froze also. Had to go back in for more surgery. Guess they twisted it & broke the scar tissue loose. Dr. say's too early to do that. I'm not having much of a life right now. WISH ME LUCK!

Hey guys, I hope everyone is getting well. Said I would post an update after my first PT session. I am 6 weeks post op from bankhart surgery. Had my first session yesterday, it wasn't as painful as I thought it would be. Therapist said I would be sore this morning. I feel fine. I havent had any meds in two weeks. Only took motrin right after session just in case pain would have been bad. I sleep without any problems and have pain every now and then but do not need meds for it. I just working on getting range of motion back. Take care!!
