Need to make GF take her iron pills

My girlfriend was recently diagnosed with anemia. She was given pills via prescription to take for4 traetment. However, she does not like taking pills so she doesn't take them. She gets sick once every few weeks and would rather be throwing up for one day as opposed to taking her pills. I hate being preachy to her and she has a tendency not to listen when I do that. I need some way to try to get her to take the medicine prescribed for her. Anyone have any ideas?

What kind of pills are they? Iron supplements? Find out *why* she doesn't want to take them... is it because of what they do to her stools? Really, it's a small price to pay to avoid the the serious long-term effects of anemia, like heart problems.(See for more info.) My anemia caused a heart murmur where there was none before.

I don't know why her only symptom is vomiting. I am horribly tired, foggy in the head, weak, depressed, etc. when my hemoglobins are down. Let her know that untreated anemia will just get worse and the fatigue can be unbearable. When it's bad, it very difficult to sleep even.

Appeal to her vanity and let her know that it can also cause thinning hair, brittle nails.

Good luck.

Taking the iron pills I understand is best on an empty stomach. Also the consequence is you have constipation. Why does iron pills cause constipation when iron in the body doesn't.

My doctor prescribed Niferex capsules. The pharmacy sells that brand OTC, and charges %96.00 for a bottle. There are cheaper brands available. My questions is: is there a difference in different brands of iron pills?

Has anyone had IV iron, and does this cause constipation? I am not anemic, just low iron and probably low ferritin. Doc said he'd do IV. I suffer with chronic constipation already, I don't need anything to aggravate it. Thanks so much!

I've been Anemic since giving birth in 1987,but it wasn't as bad as it is now!!! Now that I have Fibroids it's worst!! my hemaglobin stays low because I won't take the iron pills. It makes me sick to the stomach where I can't stomach them. What can I do?

Dear Friends,
I have low iron and my nutritionist suggested feramax iron pills. They do not cause side effects and are gentle on your stomach.

There are different forms of iron. The cheapie iron pills make me nauseous. I started taking something called Ferro-Sequel and that was a little better. But it wasn't great, I'd still feel queasy, so I stopped taking it and symptoms got worse.

Now I'm on Slow-Fe. I'd tried this before and it didn't work well for me. I happened to catch sight of the 'new formula' label on the box. I'm not sure if it's the changed formula, or just that my body reacts different, but it works great for me now.

So in summary, finding a different delivery mechanism for the iron in the form of a different pill might be the solution. The problem is that the gentler it is on one's stomach, the more expensive it is, I've found.
