Hi,

I was wondering if you guys could help me out. Over the last 4 weeks, Ive been getting hives after work. I work as a bartender and the hives and indigestion only occur when I'm about to go to bed, around 4-5 am.

It all started 4 weeks ago when I got an outbreak of hives for the first time in 10 years. Ive only had a hives outbreak once. I figured it must have be something I ate and went to bed. The next couple of nights, before going to bed, my hands would begin to itch, and hives would follow. Then I wouold get a pain in my urethra. After an hour or so, I was fine and could go to bed.

The next morning, and the few following hours onwards, I would experience a
uncomfortable pain in my urethra. After a couple of days of this, I went to a doctor and he prescribe me an antibiotic and ruled out STD's. I thought I was cured until last Monday when the hives followed with indigestion reappeared.

Now I have the same symptoms occurring at the same times but now with indigestion.

Any ideas? I haven't been eating anything new or such.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Carole

It sounds as though you could have a food allergy
or a chemical allergy. Chemicals are in much of our food too. You could also have a yeast infection or allergy.Hives is usually an allergic reaction. What about the cleaning materials you use in the bar.I would suggest that you get your allergies checked out. Perhaps something is being passed out in your urine which is affecting the membranes in your urethra.Hope this helps.Good luck.anyway you are ingesting something that your body does not like!!!

I too have hives right after I feel indigestion (usually a burning sensation in my stomach. It only happens every 6 months or so at night, which is weird. The episode begins with my mid section starting to itch, then my eyes and the back of my neck, it then starts itching behind my knees, then my armpits. then it starts itching in my groin area and the Hives show up all over my body. the worst part is that the bottoms of my feet and the palms of my hands feel very swollen and sore to the touch.

I had my first hives reaction 3 months ago, and several times weekly since then. It seems the hives have been reacurring as a RESULT of the indigestion from overeating. I don't know how this is possible, but I have ruled out all common allergy foods and all my tests have come back negative. I have also heard of people that were allergic to barley or hopps, Mr. Bartender.

I have been experiencing stomach pain & hives at night. The doctor just treats the stomach pain, says I have acid reflux. Never had stomach problems before, now it is a lifestyle. Every single day. It started 8 weeks ago. I'm getting an h.pylori test this week. I don't know what to do, if that is not the reason. It is affecting my life in a big way.

I have been hive and indigestion free for the past year. A different allergist finally suggested using omeprazole (Prilosec) to treat the indigestion and the hives went away. The best part is after 3 months of treatment, I have only had to take omeprazole when eating really spicy food an hour or 2 before bed. Otherwise, no more hives and treatable indigestion. Give a try. You can pick up the drug over-the-counter at any drug store at a reasonable price.

Mysteriously, my indigestion & hives went away. I took Zantac every day for over a year, then tried without Zantac & haven't needed it since except on several occasions. I don't have an explanation.

I think these symptoms are coming from an ulcer.

My symptoms persisted for another year, until I went gluten-free. I feel so much better after I did. No more aching joints, lack of energy, intestinal blockage, hives, puffy lips, indigestion, drop in blood pressure, ocular auras (tunnel vision), etc. Give it a try, and for you, Mr. Bartender, this means no more beer. :(

Look up mast cell activation disorder or mastocytosis, could answer a lot of your questions x

Did you ever get an answer to your questions, DeeDee? I have the exact same symptoms. Hives, and then a weird pain in my shoulder blades and at the back of my throat. I've never had this before, never even have had hives before. Thanks.

Hi I hope someone can help! I started with hives 7 weeks ago they have been so bad I had to take time off work! I remember having a really bad tummy ache then the hives appeared! Since then I occasionally get really intense epigastric pain! I'm not sure if related to the hives or all the meds I'm taking! I've had steroids, antihistamine, Zantac! Had h pylori test which was negative! I've recently moved house and had a car accident. Do you think stress can cause it?
I have just started accupuncture too!! Become desperate I will try anything!

I have had a similar problem for several years now. I have tried changing everything from food ingested to the dryer sheets and soaps I use. I have been to several allergists with no results on being allergic to anything. I even kept a food journal and found no consistancy. I did go on a diet and lost about 30 lbs. This seemed to be the only thing that helped me out at all.

Hi,
I have finally recovered from hives after more than 1 year of struggle. My hives were accompanied with high body temoerature, reddening in one ear, stinging sensation felt after urination, anal itching, occasional itch on palms n feet, extreme sensitivity to certain types of soaps.

After a year of trying to self heal by exercise and going on a detox diet, I didn't recover and I didn't want to depend on antihistamine drugs , i decided to try Tcm .3 weeks into the Tcm meds, I was free from hives but in the 4th week , I find that it's losing its effectiveness. Although I no longer get full attack of hives at night, my skin is still abit sensitive and may get 1 or 2 hives around my bra strap when I feel hot and eczema on legs. My urine still stings a little. Then I started drinking lime juice with warm water every morning and I started seeing improvement. About 2 weeks later, I started taking fish oil with Vit D by kordel's, Vit C and probiotics to build up my immunity . It's been one week into taking these supplements complementing the lime water and I am so happy that the stinging in urine is gone. I don't get hives or skin sensitivity anymore too!

In summary, regular bowel movement (aided by Tcm meds), drinking lime warm water every morning and taking the supplements to build my immunity cured me.

Note: Tcm med also required me to avoid taking heaty and allergic causing foods , canned, processed, seafood, liquor , nuts, candy and dairy foods . My diet was restricted to rice, fish pork, veg n fruits which I could only adhere to 70% of it as I didn't want to stress myself too much over such a restricted diet.
