a few months ago i woke up with a horrible itching rash all over my body. it happend a few nights and then went away (large swollen welts on my joints). I then went away last weekend and it suddenly appeared again- only this time all over my body. i tried to figure out any change in my diet or hygeine routine- i wasnt doing anything or eating anything that i hadnt used our eaten before. well today i had a piece of laffy taffy and my legs were itching within the next 15 minutes. i then realized that whenever i developed this rash, i was eating either starburst fruit chew candy or laffy taffy that day. how can something i have been enjoying all this time suddenly turn around and cause such a painful reaction over night?? i've been eating a lot of organic food lately and have been pretty healthy, and because that is my favorite kind of candy i have some every once and a while. could it be from that sort of change in my diet?? i cant figure out if its a specific ingredient or the artificial stuff... if anyone has any information about this PLEASE LET ME KNOW ABOUT IT AND WHAT I SHOULD DO!!! THANK YOU!!!!

Same thing happened to me. I thought it was insects or some sort, I've been going crazy trying to find out what's been biting me! finally saw a doctor who said it's an allergic reaction to something but not insects. Then I realized I had picked up the ultra downey that is "new" instead of the regular one I normally use!! Did you have the test and did you find that it really was the fabric softener?

same thing happened to me. I thought is it the new elliptical machine handle bars made out of latex.
then I did some sit ups on my carpet and I thought is it the carpet? or the cat? I thought it was this new turkey I got which was not from the health food store so perservatives and junk in it.
But most of all I think it's my laundry softener.
I put on fresh pj's and started to go all back into it. I have a new softener that I just love and it's suppose to be a good natural one made my mrs. meyer. I'm so passionate about her products I hate to even mention it. But i had never used her softener before until now. i had to see a doctor for two shots and some pills. My head was so swelled and a million welts on it. My neck and ears and chest and elbows my HANDS!!! I thought I had poison ivy and went to the store and got 100 bucks worth of poison ivy help. the nurse and the doctor said it's not poison ivy. I really didn't think it was but it felt like it from the severe itch. Some looked like Mesquito bites. But some large as a quarter sized. I thought because I'm a care giver it might be latex! Carpet can have latex. So can exercise handle bars have latex.
These were items I was looking into. And that turkey I ate. But really I think it's that new laundry softener. I will have a skin test to find out. So, just wanted to say I know how miserable it is. After my shots about 3 hours later I started feeling better. But as I said once I put on new clothing I got worse again. I figured it out and took a shower and scubbed it off. put on clothes that did not have softener on them and now
i'm really recovering. I'm washing all my clean cloths and BEDDING over again. what a job.

Get rid of the dryer sheets. Very toxic to allergy sufferers. Also..wash your bedding in the hottest water possible with scent-free, pefume-free and dye free laundry soap. The dryer temperature should be the hottest possible. This will kill the dust mites which are probably causing you difficulties. Keep pets out of the bedroom. I am allergic to my cat and I've had her for 15 years. She makes me sneeze but I keep the bedroom door shut. Clear out your bedroom of everything but the essentials. Get rid of the knick-knacks..and any stuffed toys...out they go.
Watch what you're using on your body. Stay away from perfume, air fresheners and absolutely...NO febreze...really brings on my attacks...the smell itself is awful. Bed bugs too...if you have them you'll need to call an exterminator. They can cause hives etc.

My daughter just had a sudden reaction after eating a plum. In looking at the label of the package (large container of fresh plums from Costco), I see the following notification: May have been treated with fludioxnil and/or chlorine wash for fungicide use. Coated with vegetable petroleum and/or beeswax to maintain freshness.

She has severe food allergies (egg, dairy, soy, apple, oats) and I'm wondering if any of those ingredients may be in the fungicide. Has anyone experienced such a reaction from a fruit/vegetable coating?

Have suffered from this rash for over seven weeks now and have gone through one round of prednosone which calmed it down for two weeks butt it returned as soon as that treatment ended. I've come to the conclusion that it could be the fabric softener dryer sheets as it has considerably subsided the past couple of days since I've re-washed bed sheets blankets and bed spreads. Have also re-washed alot of the daily cloths I wear so it seems to be clearing up. I would advise everyone to at least do those things before Doctoring. It could save you a ton of money....

I had three diferent times in the last month where i would get sudden swelling just under my right knee cap. I could actually feel the thing swelling up in 30 seconds. looked like a golf ball was placed under my skin. no pain at all. no related reason any of the three events. pretty much gone in 24 hrs. first time it occured i tried to release pressure with a cordless drill.(gross i've been told by my girl)no fluid. no spiders either luckily. any clues as to what the hell....

In reply to Amy, I just took my son to the emergency room after he ate 2 Starburst and his lips swelled and he got hives all over. His lips started to go down after he brushed his teeth so that was caused by the physical touch of the candy. His pediatician suggested we go to the ER in case there were breathing issues. The doctor gave him prelone (a kid steroid) and a shot of Benedryl. Within about 20 minutes the itching was gone and the hives fading. He woke up fine this morning. I checked ingredient lists and a lot of times the dyes are a culprit. Check both the laffy taffy and starburst and see what is common to both. I'll be watching him a lot closer now and keeping Benadryl on hand.

I am 42 yr old female, have had pets my entire life, my only pet now is indoor cat I have for 2 yrs. NO changes except new (replaced old) furnace filters. I am only having sneezing, watering, burning eyes and runny nose ONLY while at home in my house. When I go outside I am fine, to my car, friends, family, fine. I thought it may have been from vacationing in Dominican for a week, but that was 2 wks ago and these symptoms started 1 week ago. Any suggestions? My cat is family he stays regardless. lol

I've had terrible itching which initially started with my legs where the elastic band of my socks sit. Now, it's all over an unrelenting. I'm thinking it's the fabric softener. I'm still trying to figure out what it is. What has DEFINITELY helped is shaving my body (with a trimmer and not a razor) wherever I itch. The itch subsides straight away.

A couple of nights ago I woke up in the middle of the night with severe itching to my abdomen and to my backside. When I went into the bathroom to inspect I was shocked to see I had developed large red blotchy marks all over my body. The itching is intense and comes and goes. I took a Benadryl to alleviate the problem but it is only temporary. Today is day 2 and it seems like it has gotten worse. My elbows, feet, neck, abdomen, backside, and even one of my palms has a rash on it. The rash is not raised, it is completely flat.It is only welt-like if I have been aggressively scratching it.

Leading up to this hive-like rash I have not eaten anything different or anything that I haven't eaten before. No new detergents, soaps, or lotions either. Help please, this is baffling!

I am American in costa rica and living in same home for 2 years. Today when I was in shower and grabbed my towel, dried off, suddenly started itching palms and bottoms of feet then it went to my ears so i hopped back in shower and cleaned very thoroughly as I became itchier and it itchier and found a clean towel eventually thru whole day my whole body was itchy beyond bearable and welts started developing and my skin be SMS red like a lobster, looked like I got a sunburn on this rainy day and I got chills and felt my brain itching and felt a bit delerios and thought oh wow I am going to die and as I tried to not scratch it got so intense I took 2 tylenols (I never take pills) after about 5 hours of intense itchiness it befan to ceel normal like my nerve accepted the terrible burn and and so I boiled water and added salt and wired for it to cool down and bathed myself again and then it started to go away but slowly. Now 8 hours from when it first started I am comfortable enough and skin is turning white again but still with splotches of white and I just wonder what could cause this: a bug bite? Coffe?(as that is all I had at the time when it happened) sudden bad water in my shower, aloe vera(I made a smoothie of aloe Vera pure with water, acid or strange thing on towel or idk I can think of any other ideas???????
