a few months ago i woke up with a horrible itching rash all over my body. it happend a few nights and then went away (large swollen welts on my joints). I then went away last weekend and it suddenly appeared again- only this time all over my body. i tried to figure out any change in my diet or hygeine routine- i wasnt doing anything or eating anything that i hadnt used our eaten before. well today i had a piece of laffy taffy and my legs were itching within the next 15 minutes. i then realized that whenever i developed this rash, i was eating either starburst fruit chew candy or laffy taffy that day. how can something i have been enjoying all this time suddenly turn around and cause such a painful reaction over night?? i've been eating a lot of organic food lately and have been pretty healthy, and because that is my favorite kind of candy i have some every once and a while. could it be from that sort of change in my diet?? i cant figure out if its a specific ingredient or the artificial stuff... if anyone has any information about this PLEASE LET ME KNOW ABOUT IT AND WHAT I SHOULD DO!!! THANK YOU!!!!

You can develop an allergy to something that you have apparently tolerated well previously. That's medical fact. Further, you cannot develop an allergy without exposure to the allergen -- so you can't have a peanut allergy, for instance, unless you've been exposed to peanuts. Only after you've been exposed will the allergy develop.

If you have positively identified the thing you are reacting to, and it has multiple ingredients, it could be anything that is in the "laffy taffy". Keep track of the ingredients, and pay attention to anything else which also triggers the symptoms. Then compare ingredients. You may be able to identify the actual allergen through some detective work. Otherwise, you may have to go and get allergy testing.

There are alternatives to the standard medical testing, but if you go that route, you'll likely have to pay for the testing completely on your own. I'd only go through testing if you can figure out what's causing your reaction through your detective work.

You might also want to find a health care professional to work with, in order to have some help with identifying your allergen -- whether a medical doctor, naturopath or homeopath. I personally handle a lot of my allergy issues and health care using a naturopath or homeopath. They give great preventative care. I only use my doctor for "acute" things, where I need emergency kind of care.

Only thing I can say is "somebody help me"
I am a 57 yr old black female. I recently found out that I'm diebetic.(4 months ago)
I am on several different meds. blood pressure (3)
depression (paxil)(sinequan)

I have a cat which i have had for approx. 4 yrs.
suddenly I have developed a severe rash, started on my toroso, arms, back moved up to my neck swelling of my face from jaws down. when i say severe itching, its beyond severe. i have scratched myself raw almost. almost painful itching.
my doctor gave me a steriod shot monday and changed some of my meds. thinking it maybe a couple of them. put me on prednisone, atarax, loratadine. and none has helped the itching. the rash and iching started going to my legs, hips and female areas. 3 days later she gave me another shot. i'm still itching. seems like warm water and heat seems to make it worse. but when i was out in the cold today, it seemed to have eased the itching. i take a cold wash cloth and wipe myself all over constantly. that seem to ease the itching for about 10 mins. in the past 3 days, i haven't had but about 10 hrs sleep. no swelling in my throat or lips, and no breathing problems. my question is, could it be possible my cat maybe the problem. she is a inside cat and have never been outside at all. i have never had any allergies before. Could I suddenly developed a allergic reaction to her?
the only change in my laundry is i used a different fabric softener sheet. when the itching first started i re-washed those clothes twice and haven't worn any of them yet. i thought of shingles, but i don't have any blisters, and the rash is all over my body now. i asked if this could be measles and she said no.
the medicines don't seem to be working, well at least not to me.
nobody understands how severe the itching is. they just say "oh ok"
what should i do if this hasn't eased by my doctor appointment?
would appreciate any suggestions. please.

I've never had serious allergies until this fall when I couldn't get rid of a sinus infection. I was sent to an allergist who ran a very intense and long testing. I'm allergic to EVERYTHING with the exception of cats and dogs. After starting the allergy shots they had to lower the dosage down to 000 which is supposed to the lowest they have. I'm still breaking out with acne like bumps on my face, hairline, neck and upperback. I went off the shots and its been 2 months and they have gotten better but not gone. What is this and they are NOT pimples. They hurt, itch and pop up overnight.

same thing happened to me. I thought is it the new elliptical machine handle bars made out of latex.
then I did some sit ups on my carpet and I thought is it the carpet? or the cat? I thought it was this new turkey I got which was not from the health food store so perservatives and junk in it.
But most of all I think it's my laundry softener.
I put on fresh pj's and started to go all back into it. I have a new softener that I just love and it's suppose to be a good natural one made my mrs. meyer. I'm so passionate about her products I hate to even mention it. But i had never used her softener before until now. i had to see a doctor for two shots and some pills. My head was so swelled and a million welts on it. My neck and ears and chest and elbows my HANDS!!! I thought I had poison ivy and went to the store and got 100 bucks worth of poison ivy help. the nurse and the doctor said it's not poison ivy. I really didn't think it was but it felt like it from the severe itch. Some looked like Mesquito bites. But some large as a quarter sized. I thought because I'm a care giver it might be latex! Carpet can have latex. So can exercise handle bars have latex.
These were items I was looking into. And that turkey I ate. But really I think it's that new laundry softener. I will have a skin test to find out. So, just wanted to say I know how miserable it is. After my shots about 3 hours later I started feeling better. But as I said once I put on new clothing I got worse again. I figured it out and took a shower and scubbed it off. put on clothes that did not have softener on them and now
i'm really recovering. I'm washing all my clean cloths and BEDDING over again. what a job.

Try washing your clothes in a vegetable (soy)based laundry detergent. Does not have any phosphates or petroleum solvents.

I have a lot of allergies. My most difficult allergies are to foods. Last Wed. I was out of allergen free foods and at lunch time I was so hungry. I know corn is a more serious allergy for me. It always caused my entire abdomen to swell up in hives anyway, corn chips are all I could find and I figured if I was going to have these chips I may as well make them taste good with cheese. I am allergic to milk as well. Well that was not good, I was unconcious for 3 hours and then when I came too my speech was very slurred after that I slept for 16 hours. The next day, I went to a phychiatrist, I have ADHD and was having trouble with focus so my Dr. prescribed adderall. Adderall is great for focus, but I started having slurred speech again as well as chest pains. Well, I went to research the adderall and low and behold I found that it had corn in it.

Caution: I just returned from the 3rd trip the emergency room with my significant other this morning. Each allergic reaction is becoming more severe. One of the ER nurses said that she had the same severe reaction and learned that she was ALLERGIC to SOY. Everyone is different. Just know that anything -- even soy -- can be an allergin.

Anyone (or no anyone) allergic to horses?? My 4 year old came home from camp on Monday with a bit of a rash, by the next day she was covered. Doc said it was contact dermatitis since the rash wasn't on the part of her body that was covered with shorts & tank. I'm thinking someone may have put a different sunblock or she suddenly became allergic to horses or perhaps the hay??? Anyone familiar with this??

My girlfriend and I had been dating for 4 weeks, we started kissing at the beginning of the third week and at the beginning of the fourth week she developed a rash on her lips and said that her lips feel like they are on fire, this has lasted for a week now and I was wondering if anyone could tell me the probable cause and/or remedy for such a reaction.

Hello how are you,

Your condition is probably caused by the spread of a GMO.

You can use overall body washings with a formulation containing chloroxylenol. One over the counter brand name conataining chloroxylenol is Dettol.
http://www.dettol.co.uk/

It is a rather cheap product.

Try to repeat an overall body treatment with the liquid at least twice per week. Dettol is an anti septic that also proves active against MRSA.

The use of this substance may provoke a chemical burn like reaction that will subside after one or two days. A process of exfoliation may occur.
Shower or soak in water to dissolve affected skin.

Dettol is one of the few anti septics that is with the ability to penetrate the polymers that make this type infectious agent near to impossible to eradicate.

The type organism that you seem to suffer from settles as an invisible bio-film in and on the skin.

Cheers,

Woke up about 5 days ago with a dotty itchy red rash on my arms - from about three inches above the wrist to the start of my bicep - and on my lower-side ribs/'love handles'.

now it has spread to cover my lower and mid back, upper-side ribs, neck and further up my arm. it's also denser and redder and ever itchier!!

what the heck is going on??

i was paranoid it was bedbugs or something, but the doctor said it was an allergic reaction, to god knows what, and prescribed antihistamines.

i've never been allergic to anything ever in my life, and i have no idea how long this will last.

i dont know what i'm allergic to - the possible suspects i have encountered approx a week ago have been notably honey, strawberries and a new shirt. the first two don't explain the torso-and-arms pattern, the shirt does - but then wouldnt it have started all over, instead of spreading?

i'm going absolutely nuts!! any ideas at all??
