Don't live the life style of a jakey. Try and get up early, do all the crap your supposed to do, even if you are off work just find things to do, by 8pm 9pm you will be knacknered and will want to just go bed instead of going drinking.
Doesn't have to be so black and white either. Have a drink at the wkend, something to look forward too. Honestly you will feel much better, loosen its grip on you, you won't feel the need to drink as much.

Kevin.Oh yes thatís such good advice.I spent lot of years on stimulants and felt a bit low after sessions but when I switched to alcohol my problems really really started. Usual thing. It made me a nasty person.Alcohol never changed me for the better and I donít think it affects anyone, and I mean anyone in a proper good way. Then it started becoming a pure habit. If you can break the habit part of the addiction thatís the best and biggest thing to help and to do that you must keep yourself busy busy busy doing practical things and not just watching tele. I donít believe in the AA approach of a higher power because I am a atheist but I reckon if I can get to just thinking of having a drink and treating myself at weekends, then Iíll be happy enough.Like you say , if you can get it to loosen its grip on you, its all about that. Its all about self respect really :)

Its just a matter of choice and discipline. Your willingness to let go of that vice is very important

Thank you. Your right.
Its also a matter of how much you want it.How much do you want to be free. I mean. And like everything in life that will involve sacrifices but it will be so worth it for me :)

The only way to stop dependency is
1-Detox
2-Rehab programme
3-Will power
4-Have goals
5- never become complacent in sobriety.

I have used these steps , and from drinking drinking 12 cans of K a day and using many different types of drugs I have now been abstinent from both alcohol and drugs since August last year!
Happy days :)

think the fellowship is great for the thousands of people that it helps all over the world ,,, but not for me , I do not believe in all this higher power malarkey , and everyone seems brainwashed , saying prayers and holding hands , nah not for me , I gave it a good go for 3 weeks and it was enough to crack me up !!!! But like I said fair play to all those that it helps.

Yes. I went to an AA meeting and couldn't believe how many were not alcohol addicts at all and one had not had a drink for 20 years even. So what the heck was he doing there at the meeting?
Maybe the meetings are a substitute for these people who've kicked the habit but have no imagination to take on proper hobbies and interests when sober.Im not being mean but thtat's what it looks like to me.
But then again at least they got free of alcohol so fair play to them. That's something I still have to do.

I have to say that the physical damage of alcohol is horrific. You know those photos you see of people <before and after> after 2 years of crack abuse? Well if you see someone's face after just being 2 weeks clean of alcohol they look 10 years younger. Which proves what a hold it has on people like me because I am a bit vain I admit, but I can't stop drinking even for the sake of the way I look to others :( It's a bad scene.

There are so many ways including:
1) Talk to your doctor.
2) change your attitude
3) Try to get rid of cans, bottles
4) reduce the quantity of alcohol.
5) Drink a lot of water.
6) Take vitamin B supplements.
