From the article:

"Cravaack noted he voted for the Ryan bill to protect such issues as Medicare while fulfilling health and retirement security."

This is the same line of reasoning used during the Vietnam war: "We had to destroy the village to save it."

Economist Paul Krugman on the Ryan Plan:

"The Ryan plan is, in fact, a self-serving piece of junk. It doesn’t add up — in fact, it would probably make the deficit bigger not smaller. And far from representing some kind of sacrifice of political interests in the service of the greater good, it’s a right-wing wish-list on steroids: sharp tax cuts for corporations and the rich, savage cuts in aid to the poor, and a gratuitous privatization of Medicare. And again, it’s technically incompetent along the way."

Most estimates are that the vouchers the Plan would provide seniors would cover about 1/3 the cost of private insurance. This also throws seniors into the jungle of private insurance -- what if they cannot obtain coverage? By 65, most people have SOME sort of "pre-existing condition."

The Ryan Plan throws seniors and younger poor people under the bus, while giving generous tax breaks to the rich and corporations. What are the folks at RetireSafe thinking?

Seniors being forced to buy generic drugs from the Pharmaceutical companies who have moved to third world countries to save money? It's wrong. Our U.S. Government and our Insurance Companies are responsible. According to a pharmacy employee I talked to, United States Pharmacies are ordered to dispense generics. Most generics are from other countries. Regardless of what they want you to believe, generics are NOT exactly like the Brand drugs or it would be a copyright violation. If a brand works for a patient, leave them alone and quit denying their prescriptions that are important or forcing them to switch to generics, like Heart Pills, Blood Pressure Pills and on and on. Why does our Government want to make sure these other countries are making money? Our country is in debt and if those companies were banned from shipping medications into the U.S., then they would probably move back to the U.S, which may also bring jobs back. With the terrorists all over those countries, why are they not worried about one of them tampering with the medications shipped to the U.S.? It seems they are extremely ignorant for their status.

..... Anyone, even Pharmaceutical companies, are permitted to buy wherever the price is lowest. Blame free trade and globalization for firms moving to low-wage countries so that their prices are now lower than those of local firms that struggle to stay in business, or perhaps even had to close down. Also blame the various labor unions for insisting on (too?) high wages for their members.
..... It seems that the local medical authorities have decided after careful checking that generic drugs are as effective as their high-priced local "equivalents". Why pay extra for a brand name?

The local medical authorities are idiots and are probably taking kickbacks from Pharmaceuticals. Generic is Not equivalent and has several different chemicals than the brand because they cannot completely copy the drug. It has to be different in some way or it is a copy right violation. You get a employee working for the brand company who later goes out and starts his own company in another country, changes a few chemicals and thinks its the same. He's worse than a common thief. If he had any pride he would keep his company here if its so great. But he can get cheap chop shop labor in the other countries, become rich and then come back to the good old USA like a big shot. It's all about the almighty Dollar and your so called medical authorities are just as bad.
