Jeez, it sure would have been nice to have the rest of the details! What, you thought that one sentence, and no link to the article OR the abstract, is informative?

The one sentence by itself is old news. The article may be more informative if they found more information about what underlies this different form of irritable bowel syndrome. Specific things atleast some evidence has been found for include changes in nerves and in local neurochemistry caused by inflammation, and chronic low grade inflammation. There has also been a fair amount of work on changes in gut flora and the use of probiotics.

The link you're looking for is just under that sentence you referred to, where it says:

I have just read "Grain Brain"by drPerlmutter,
and 'm not surprised at a possible link between the unhealthy gut and the brain (depression etc.).
I found I became more and more Gluten sensitive with each incidence, and I'm now Gluten free.
I feel much better, it's easy, and if I cheat I suffer for it. I was tempted to eat cake the last couple of days, and have had vicious cramps, sweats, tired and depressed!
A dr in emergency at my last D. attack said: I advice everyone who have diverticulitis to go Gluten Free! A must in the diet after an attack in my experience, is soluble fiber and pro-biotics and go easy on heavy proteins.
