If the ships are in private holding, then they are no longer military-ready--becoming irrelevant. The researchers are in texas because that is where the facilities are.

Paul and tower? Ooohh...I'm so scared. How drunk was tower when he was involved? As for mexico, they can counter your little militias with their cartels.

The biggest output of texas is hot air. Texas will secede the day after the confederacy rises again.

Wrong again Sancho. The USS Texas belongs to Texas Parks and Wildlife, and the USS Lexington belongs to a non-profit association in Corpus.
And as for as the researchers go, they already got your money and flocked to Texas by avoiding Washington.
National Guard can't stand up to Mexico? Back in the 80's I introduced Congressman Ron Paul to the Texas Adjutent General of the Texas Guard. After a very informative meeting, Paul and Senator John Tower got together and built the Guard up to a strength in manpower and weapons that would kick Sadam's ass in the "Mother of All Battles". Not only is the Guard up to it, but Texas has several homegrown militias that ain't too shabby.
You are the dumbest rock in the desert on the oil question. Sonny, oil and cattle made Texas. If Texas produces, refines, and uses all of it's oil and gas resources, you're going to freeze your ass off the winter Texas takes a hike from little pissants like you and your socialist friends in the White House.
How old are you by the way? 12?

"I'm so scared." Now I know you're 12.

And they ain't little militias, Vlad.

And John Tower didn't drink as much as I did, and look how succesful I am at handing you your dose of payback.

Back to trolling on the topix page I see. What score are you shooting for? That will be the only points you get you juvenile blood sucking wannabe. Vlad the Impaler-you watch too many Gothis movies and listen to too much heavy metal music. I'll bet you dress like M. Manson when you graduate from high school-gotta draw attention-gotta be somebody.

You just learned about mixed metaphors a few days ago and here you are trying to impress us. How cute!

You spend a lot of time thinking highly of yourself. You should probably get outside of your head and get a real opinion. Pomposity isn't attractive.

Vlad tepes wasn't a vampire, idiot, and I don't listen to metal music at all. My tastes range from sondheim and ian to japanese folk music and weill.

BTW, child--I'm in my fifties. Someday, you might just be able to count that high.

I love when a good Texas government debate starts. All of our rednecks leave the comfort of their trailer's to go to the library to use the computer and comment. The rest of the world gets a little glimpse of how someone like Dub-ya or Rick Perry could become the governor of our state!

I did not say Vlad was a vampire. I correctly identified him as the Impaler, idiot. I identified you as a blood sucking "50s" vampire, idiota. And if you're going to try to impress us with your 'manurity' and high society, pompius, resume, use capital letters when appropriate. I don't have to because I am low class Texas.
And to make you aware of my true IQ, I can count to 74-without a special tutor, or remedial reinforcement. Now how ya like that troll. And you ain't in your 50s. Anyone who listens to Japanese folk music has been watching too many Sammuri (sic) movies.
Now when you get a little itch, and you decide to leave that awful city you live in, come on down to Juarez, Mexico, and do some real life research. I'll even loan you a baseball bat to use as a critter stick-mucho idioto.

You seem to forget that he was, "The son of the dragon" or as it was commonly statedthen, "Dracula".

He was the Impaler, named Darcula, and was the inspiration for Bram Stoker.

It is also mentioned that in his life he would dine in the fields of the impaled and possibly eat portions of them or drink some of their blood. This was an intimidation tactic to terroize the populace.

Samurai movies only use folk music in brothel scenes; everything else is westernized japanese modes. Virtually any you;ve seen here that are dubbed also use alternate scores. On the other hand, I began listening to REAL JFM long before I ever saw kurasawa or mifune.

Why would I wat to impress yo? You;re an anonymous mook on a message board. My ego requires no input from you.

Aside from location and name, stoker actually took very little from the actual vlad tepes. In fact, he didn't even get the title right--he is described a a boyar, but in fact was a prince. The larger influence on stoker was the increase in gothic romance/horror of the time, and the fact that he wanted to make money.

Much of what is attributed to him is fiction, propaganda created to demonize him politically. He did not need to terrorize the populace; he was and is regarded as a protector and hero in his own land. What he DID do was create a few tableau to frighten the enemy, mostly the turks.

Lets not forget his domestic opponents that got impaled as well.
As to your claim about propoganda. sorry but every leader has some measure of that but in the case of Vlad it has much more basis in fact. Never forget that the vast majority of his victims wer from his own country.

As to him being regarded as a protector was nly if you didnt cross him or happened to be poor.
"Vlad Dracula was very concerned that all his subjects work and contribute to the common welfare. He once notice that the poor, vagrants, beggars and cripples had become very numerous in his land. Consequently, he issued an invitation to all the poor and sick in Wallachia to come to Tirgoviste for a great feast, claiming that no one should go hungry in his land. As the poor and crippled arrived in the city they were ushered into a great hall where a fabulous feast was prepared for them. The guests ate and drank late into the night. Vlad himself then made an appearance and asked them, "What else do you desire? Do you want to be without cares, lacking nothing in this world?" When they responded positively Vlad ordered the hall boarded up and set on fire. None escaped the flames. Vlad explained his action to the boyars by claiming that he did this "in order that they represent no further burden to other men, and that no one will be poor in my realm."
Not much of a protector.

Really full of yourself today by golly. I don't know anything about your REAL JFM, even though I've been to Atsugi, Iwakuni, Sasabo, Iwo To (Jima), and Okinawa. Of course I was in a hurry most of the time and only had time to hit a pub , or two, or three, drink a little Akadami and Saki, fool around with the local female population who didn't have critter problems, then I was on my way.

As for your ego, I couldn't care less whether you have one or not. If it makes you tinkle better, have all the ego you want.

Vlad, you and the ancient Japanese have some things in common you know, or maybe you don't. The Impaler would just impale a person on a stake, probably driven up the rectum.(I'm sure I don't have to draw you a picture of up the rectum). And the Japanese would just behead their foes then impale the head on a stick. You kinda go after your foes using both forms of impaling. I'm just so thankful I draw very little of your attention, you make me so scared.

That's a story found only in german propaganda; there is no proof of it ever happening, nor does it appear in the folklore of the region.

BTW--Tirgoviste was not in vlad's domain; tepes had no power there, and it would have been quite unlikely that the lame would have marched all that way. A german author might well make such an error when creating hi story.

This source seems to disagree with you. It notes that these actions are very common amoung the written History and are most likely true.
You will notice that it mentions, German, Russian and Local folklure as sources.

"Most likely true" isn't proof; it also notes that the germans made up a helluva lot of stuff for entertainment value.

I doubt that someone who burned to death the poor and crippled would be heralded as a beloved national hero. Were that the case, the czars would be more fondly remembered today.
