I am a carer for a lady aged 51 who has had 2 Strokes in 10 years & as a result has a memory & speach problem.
Due to some Blood reasons I am able to find out from her Specalist why her platelet reading keeps verying between 100 & 175 & as a result she has 4 600 ml bags of platelets every Friday.
I see by reading the above results that people speak of Platelet readings in the 70.000 mark,
I am told by her Specalist that her platelet reading is O.K.
Is someone able to tell me what is a normal platelet reading for a person after having 2 Strokes, PLEASE.

MY blood platlets are reading at about 105 ..They said its called TTP or ITP depending on the circumstance. It cause your body not to have enough blood platlets to clot properly and clot things that should not clot. So that could be whats causing the problem.

I was diagnosed with Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura which is a blood disorder that causes you to have low blood count Thrombocytopenia (low platelet count), leading to bruising, red pin dots on the body or purpura.Microangiopathic hemolytic anemia (anemia, jaundice and a blood film featuring evidence of mechanical fragmentation of red blood cells)Neurologic symptoms (fluctuating), such as hallucinations, bizarre behavior, altered mental status, stroke or headaches
Kidney failure or even a fever . It can be caused by medicines, surgeries,

Thank you Mrs Clark - What you say is exactly what the Specialist tells me and that my friend whom I care for has a problem with her ITP blood readings as they come down as my friend has her 4 x 600 ml bags of platelets each week. I thank you for your reply as it confirms what I have been told, my friend was on Waughfrin tablets but I don't like that.
Many Thanks, R Kerr Aust

I have suffered the last couple of years with low platelet count nothing has been done or said. I recently had a blood test and have been told my count is low and need a repeat test in 3months. I am becoming quite concerned as this seems to be ongoing and nothing else seems to be done. I do bruise very easily and have tiny pin marks on my upper arms although not a huge amount. I have not been feeling well and wonder if this is the reason.
"shelly" I do trust that since 2007 when you posted your remarks about low platelets that you have seen other Dr's and are well on way to a better health

You seem to have a very serious health problem if you have a low platelet count and you should consult your doctor about it. Your condition can get worse if medical treatment will not be provided immediately. Seek medical advice for more information. Refer to http://www.depuyhipreplacementlawsuit.com/hip... .

My Doctor tells me my count is 85 and is low but I have no problem clotting.I am 58 and bruise easily.I just had surgery on my shoulder and the hospital did a bloos platelett count before surgery said I was fine for the surgery.I am not sure what is going on.I have already seen a cancer doctor years ago and he tested my plateletts in his office and said I was at 68 then he said wait I need to run another test on your plateletts but done in a different way and he said I was ok.My personal doctor says there is only one test for plateletts but the cancer doctor says there is two way to test plateletts, Some people are getting false readings could this be true.Does any onme know if there really is two ways to test plateletts, Especially if you test low on the first test then you get the second test and you are fine, Very confusing. All my other numbers are perfect, Cholestrol, Tryglicerides, A1c live and kidney function perfect, I feel great not sure what to do, Myabe fire my personal doctor.

The Lady I am a carer for has had her platelett count down as low as 29 which I am told by her Blood Specalist ( a Professor ) is low, a platelett count between 100 and 400 is considered as OK.
I am told there is only one way to test Platelett level and not to have 2 tests one after another and not to have tsets when you are having a Blood transfussion or plasma or plateletts. Have your platelett test a few days before you have any of the above as it gives a false reading, also have your medication you are taking
( if any )to see if it effects your blood readings and platelett count.
Maybe try another Dr or go to a Blood Bank to have them checked, you will get a true reading there.

your cancer doctor is also a hemotologist. He spent years learning about blood. He has a specialized computer that test your blood. If he says there are two tests to show your platelet count you can believe him. When you see him again be sure and mention your concern. He will gladly explain how it works. I'm sure if you called his office his nurse or PA could help you to know the truth. They are usually very helpful. Good luck to you

I have done some research and he is right. There is only one way, besides bruising I suppose, to test for platelets and that's a CBC (complete blood count). I should have figured because that's the test I get to make sure my blood is thin enough.

Thank you for all of your input. You gave me a list of questions for my doctor when I see him this Friday. I was supposed to have sergury on my left eye due to retinal detachment. They wouldn't do it because my platelet count was 40,000.We'll see what he says/does.

Thanx again

I have to keep a low platelet count because of the mechanical valve that I have. It's to keep my blood from clotting and plugging the valve. Your father may need to have his platelet count low too. That would be a good question for his doctor
