Know that hip replacement surgery is one of the most critical operations due to the complexities of the procedure.. Just make sure that the doctors are experts on hip surgeries and the devices to be used are safe. Anyhow, hip problems have been one of the major concerns worldwide, especially after the release of data that complications have caused DePuy hip replacements to fail at a much higher rate than other hip replacement models. The Stryker information center has the background on the Stryker hip recall, which was issued voluntarily by the company in July 2012 and recalled the Stryker Rejuvenate and ABG II, modular neck-stems used in the company’s hip implants. The Stryker hips were associated with serious side effects, like pain, inflammation, and metallosis—or high levels of toxic metal ions in the bloodstream. The FDA has received over 60 reports of Stryker hip injuries and the number continues to grow.

Metal hip replacements were actually advertised to last longer and more efficient than other types of hip implant devices. Studies of metal hip implants indicate that they have higher revision rates. However reports of early wear have left patients at higher level of metal exposure caused by cobalt, chromium and other metallic particles. Because of this, one of the manufacturers of hip replacements, DePuy Orthopaedics which is a Johnson & Johnson company, is faced with a numerous lawsuits filed by a large number of injured patients.
