Raising Medicare age would produce 'surprising ripple effects'
Americans are living longer, and Republicans want to raise the Medicare eligibility age as part of any deal to reduce the government's huge deficits.

"Their [Medicare] costs would go up because keeping younger, healthier 65- and 66-year-olds out of the insurance pool would raise costs for the rest."
It would be a very dumb move to raise the age for Medicare.
Like the article says above, existing Medicare participants would end up PAYING EVEN MORE for Medicare coverage.
Actually, they should LOWER the age to 62 and create a larger pool of monthly contributors (premiums).

all they have to do is raise the SS contribution cap from $110k to $250k to make SS solvent.
expand Medicaid to everyone 55 and older, regardless of income level, with a sliding premium scale, and raise the Medicare age to 70.

It's a PERFECT evil Republican plan. Then reduce food regulations and kill Americans with legalized chemical additives. LOL
BTW--If you want to change the law, change it for those who have not already PAID for Medicare INSURANCE over the years.

Raising the Medicare age means people either work into their 70's to keep their insurance coverage provided by their employer or they go without insurance until they finally qualify for Medicare.
Seriously, who wants a 70 y/o roofing their house or driving a school bus just because they can't afford health insurance on their own?
Bad idea, very bad idea.

And eliminate commercial insurance for federal elected officials, put them on medicade and later medicare. They need some "skin in the game".

What really gravels me is that these politicians get Cadillac coverage for life after only one term! They should have to use the same system as the rest of us! Lets see just how many harebrained ideas they come up with then!! Most employers today either don't offer health insurance or it is priced so high that most can't afford it. In most of the civilized world access to health care is seen as a basic human right!

many have paid into ss and medicare!it seems taboo to speak of those who draw these benefits and paid nothing into them such as SSI benefits?there are too many loop holes that let those who did nothing get SS and medicare benefits!this is the bullshit that should be seperated from those who actually paid into SS and medicare and those who paid nothing!cut back on the free loading society?the public is still too stupid to ask why obamacare isnt good enough for the whitehouse employees?they get a cadillac package for life?you idiots cant answer that but still kiss obamas ass?

Medicare was not designed for WOMB TO TOMB coverage and for payments into it over 45 years of work time. The real world is YOU PAY YOU PLAY. I really can't feel sorry for ANYONE who didn't PLAY BY THE RULES .Moveing the age up MIGHT cover the cost the RULE BREAKERS cost the REST OF THE PLAYERS who played by the RULES of THIS GAME OF REAL LIFE .
