Please note that the FDA Safety Notification regarding the Hernia specific mesh complications can be accessed on the FDA site by scrolling to the bottem of the Transvaginal Tape Safety Notice and clicking on the Hernia notice link. The FDA has not as of this posting put out an individual Hernia Mesh Safety Alert Notice....But it's major progress!!(: Thanks to everyone for their support. Thanks Elsie!! Mean people do actually suck...(:
I will try and publish some stats on post op mesh complication treatment regarding post pain injection results and also post mesh removal results.
**Please anyone out there who has had any form of treatment please contact me at [email protected] to let me know what product you had, where placed, your age, smoker-non smoker, and how you are doing post treatment. We need to see this info so others can learn what direction to take in their recovery, and to give them hope. If the provider was good, let us know.
Feel better everyone,

Bruce, The FDA links are great! what a great thing for people to see! I hope it saves many from the pain this mesh has done to so many of us! I am so thankfull to you for all your hard work!
went to the Dr. on Fri, and guess what??? i have another hernia starting to poke its little head out! doc said I can not do any lifting, straining ect... i can not even move the furnature. UGH! house feels so much cleaner when i do that! hubby says good about the furnature part. lol he tried to turn the tv on with remote pointing toward the computer when i moved it last time! LOL (i did it too, but won't tell him that)
doc also said if i get a cold, to get me some good cough meds. i don't know what to do with it. i will not let them put another mesh in me!
this hernia is where i had 2 c-sections, 1 tubal preg. and also cut from another hernia. thats allot of openings there. oh an also a little one where they took my ovary out.
pain clinic called today, i am going to try the neurostimulator. get a 2 week trial before the permanent one. i can't take these meds any longer, and if i don't like it, he said he will take it out. will try this until i can hopefully see Dr.Ramshaw
so anyway, guess i am blabbing on... lol
hope all is well, and keep up the wonderful things you have been doing. you are and angel for so many, and i am sure many more to come!
wishing everyone pain free days!

I'm going to work on my adverse report this week but I don't see many with my type of mesh complaining. Does that matter?

I had a gor-tex dual layer patch in sept. 2007 I have had problems does anyone know if this one was recalled?

Dr David Grischkan uses a Gortex patch in a modified Shouldice procedure.
You can search for Hernia Center in cleveland. I came across a paper that he presented to the American Hernia society that says Gortex produces less pain. Now I don't know about the dual layer patch. I would assume the makers of Gortex have solved any problems with Gortex.

Weds,10/22/08 8:45pm central time Al Hi this is [email protected] I have been doing alot research cross over on all the different meshes, I came up with some history on the Gore Mycromesh which is OR WAS used inalot of women(pop) the site I was on I wasnn't suppose to be on,oh will it open for me anyway it STATED THAT MYCORMESH IS NOT SUITABLE SOFT TISSUE PROSTHESIS FOR REPAIR, tHJS was on to different sites One statement is in The Journel of American Association Of Gynecologic Laparoscopists. received 09/19/2002 accepted 03/16/2003. available online 06/03/2005. with a rejection ratesof 18% and 0%, respectively. Given these data,MycroMesh is not recommended to repair a defective vaginal wall. Department of Endo Gynacology, Royal Hospital for Women, Univeristy of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. Bruce Istill think I am on thr right track of what I told you this morning. Both produts are made the same way ( corduroy ) mesh.

I had a Bowel and Small intestin Resection last month due to an Right Anguinal Hernia repair in July 1997 at the South Miami Hernia Institute. The surgeon inserted a Prolene Plug Graft and did not stich it (his Suturless Technique)which caused the mesh to migrate soon after surgery to my intestin and bowel causing the exact same symtoms that you mentioned. I have gone to the ER many time since and diagnosed for Bowel Obstruction and released because they could not determine exactly the cause. Finaly during my last visit in September 08 the ER, a Gastro Specialist sent by my primary doctor save my life. He was convinced that something was the cause and insited to perform an exploratory Laparoscopic surgery and, sure enough, he found the mesh wrapped aroung my instestin and bowel and had to remove 2 inches of my instestin and 2 inches of my bowel with the mesh completely attached.I was told that it would eventually cause intestinal gangreen and kill me because of lack of blood and oxygen which was reduced to 65% already.I contacted a lawfirm who told me that I had already pass the statute of limitation for malpractice since my surgery was in 1997, eventhough it took all these years to find the cause. The mesh used was also produced by Ethicon (J&J)like yours. The statute of limitation for defective product is 12 years, I have one year left if that's the case. Can you please help me and guide me to your lawfirm so I can find out if I qualify for compensation. I already recieved all my Med records since 1997 and I have the colored photographs of the mesh attached before Resection taken by surgeon in the OR. My surgeon is the best and the nicest guy, I got lucky this time.I am already back to full activities as if I was never sick. If you want his name and contact let me know. [email protected]

I believe the main reason doctors stopped doing the Shouldice repairs and the old methods was that people had long scars. It was many years before mesh was used. I think in the 70s. The old mesh although more painful in the short run, had no pain in the long run.

I think the old hernia mesh repair methods caused less pain and complications in the long run. For some reason, they started experimenting with mesh. It didn't come easy because even though mesh was easy to make it wasn't until the 70's and 80's that mesh repairs started to be used widely. I think mesh contracts, etc. People need to stand up and complain!!

Marie

Hi Marie, I told you about this website. As you will see there are many problems with mesh. Like I told you before, I think what happens is mesh contracts and often times pulls muscles. The next major problem is that when mesh does not properly adhere, it retracts and the hernia comes back. One of the people I new went to Dr. William Meyers. I would strongly suggest you go there. Please email me and maybe we can talk on the phone. Anyway, hope you can get a good job around the Christmas break.

The older methods aren't necessarily better. I'm living proof: the "tension" approach cost me my right testicle as a child, and the repair on my left side didn't last. I had mesh implanted laparoscopically on my left side six months ago, and - knock on wood - I'm not 100 percent but I'm doing relatively well.

That said, my heart really goes out to people who are having problems with mesh. Hopefully enough complaints to the FDA will lead to products and methods that work better for everyone.

All their recoeds say is that the Mayo System was used. Which in follow -up research tells me that it was of two different surgery thatit could of. been ,

Hi Elsie,

Are you going to see Dr. Ramshaw? I have an appt with him on the 13th of November. I am hoping he will remove my mesh. I have been searching for a DR. for years and hear hes good. What do you know if anything about him.

Appreciate you help.
