Although I'm sure people are overall excited for the cheaper costs, I'm sure the dental agencies are quite frustrated. I know that Hamilton dental implants are trying to completely remove dentures as their competition. http://www.paramountdentistry.ca/implants.htm...

I feel like most people don't trust dental implants. In Calgary they actually released a video promoting dental health and they really made a push to have people get dental implants at discount costs. http://www.mybite.ca/implants.htm

I have often wondered about the effect of dental implants on dentures. But I suppose as long as everyone is getting the help they need that's really all that is important. http://www.ozcanomfs.com/dental-implant.html

Be careful in Costa Rica - I went there for 6 years and did well until I had implants - all6 were messed up and this was the top clinic in San Jose with the big red lips - prisma . You never put a bridge over implants you have to treat each one as individual teeth. Also they were to close. . I just had 3 pulled out in Mexico . Very painful to do but my dr was great. I wrote to clinic and they are ignoring me / all they wanted was my money.

If you don't want to travel out of the country, talk to your dentist about implants. In some cases, financing and payment options are available. For example, at my practice ( http://drsohl.com/index.php ) we can discuss payment options.

I think many choose Costa Rica because of the huge cost savings...getting financed doesn't change this. I just returned from Costa Rica last month and I go back in September to complete my procedure. 7 two-stage implants (Zimmer), gum surgery, bone grafts, extractions, PFZ (Porcelain fused to Zirconia) in 3 segmented bridges. All for $16k. Haven't found a clinic in the U.S. that can do that procedure for anywhere near that price...not even close.

I'm keeping a blog of my journey: www.thedentaltourist.blogspot.com

Well, it looked like you were in Denton, TX. I would have come to you for a consultation.. but I see you are in Florida. I use a VPN on my main computer which routes my activity thru CA. I'm not sure on this laptop... but I can assure you I am in TX.

Nice website is right!

Absolutely, positively false!
Oral surgeons and prosthodontists have been putting bridges over implants for years, with great results.
More than likely, the clinic you went to screwed it up, so the result was not good.

Hey, Mikey,
Please quote some prices.....

Yep, pricing in advance on the Websites of US dentists would be a big help to patients, BUT, don't think it will happen. Plus the sheer volume of implants done by the top dentists in CR gives them experience that can't be matched by their US counterparts.

Our CR dentists post fees for procedures and will work with your budget. If you are thinking about dental implants, it is so worth looking at CR dentists as an option. I have the first part of the procedure for full mouth restoration completed. My temporary bridges are working great and I go back in two and a half weeks for my final work. Eleven implants and my 6 remaining teeth are ground down for crowns.

When making health care decisions, remember that the World Health Organization ranks CR higher than the US in health care.

Read RJ's blog and wade through the discussions on the big thread. Could change your life. Did mine.

Donna,
I realize there is no chance that he is going to post his prices on the forum or his website.
I just think it's quite comical that a US based local DDS would feel the need to post to a forum thread that is discussing dental care in Costa Rica, and brag that he accepts payment plans....LOL! I notice that he has already retracted his forum username, and now appears as "Anonymous". Good decision. He does have a top notch web designer, though.

Yes, I am familiar with RJ's blog, and in fact, I have had several personal communications with him. His teeth look wonderful, and it looks like he'll probably have a good outcome in the long run. In my case, though, I was unable to get enough vacation time to support an overseas trip, due to fiscal cutbacks at my company. So CR was out of the picture. After tons of research, though, I discovered that prices at some midwestern US implant clinics are very good, compared to the prices at local oral surgeons and even other implant clinics in the rest of the country, and CA in particular. The prices are less than half of what I would pay in a CA implant clinic, and are only somewhat higher than CR. I found one clinic in particular that has very experienced doctors, and that is very accommodating. Almost 4 weeks ago, I got my All-On-4 with a temporary fixed bridge done, and I'm very happy with the outcome so far. The final bridge will be Zirconia over titanium. This is a good option for those who are unable/unwilling to travel internationally.

It seems as though dental implants are becoming more and more popular and common among people of all ages. I have many friends who had had dental implants put in while in their twenties. I've thought about getting implants to have a perfect smile but I am fine with the teeth I have for now.
