Garden City, NY (PRWEB) July 10, 2006 -- Keith, Shapiro & Ford, a Garden City, New York based law firm received a three million dollar verdict in a LASIK Malpractice Trial in Nassau County, New York involving a LASIK surgery performed on January 7, 2000 (index number 8476/2002). The plaintiff suffered from post–LASIK ectasia which was claimed to have resulted from pre-existing form fruste keratoconus as well as an insufficient residual stromal bed. It was also claimed that the informed consent was insufficient notwithstanding an eight page Informed Consent Document, a video, a brochure and a general discussion of the risks with a referring optometrist.
The plaintiff, a 43 year old woman, is still wearing contact lenses but her treating optometrist testified that she is getting near to the point where she will only have surgical options.
The Defendant doctor was Eric D. Donnefeld. Donnenfeld who was chosen as the 2005 National Cataract and Refractive Surgeon of the Year by the Journal Cataract and Refractive Surgery Today. Dr. Donnenfeld is Dr. Donnenfeld is a National Medical Director of TLC. has according to his website has trained more surgeons to perform refractive surgery than any other doctor in New York.
The case took nine days to complete and the jury deliberated for approximately five hours. The total jury verdict broken down as $1,000,000.00 for past pain and suffering,$1,000,000.00 for future pain and suffering and $1,000,000.00 for future medical expenses. There was never an offer on the case. The jury rejected the insufficient residual stromal bed theory but found a departure as to the diagnoses of form fruste keratoconus and they also found the informed consent to be inadequate.

I will continue to recommend Dr. Wong and OCLI to all my family and friends.

Eric Donnenfeld Loses $2.5 Million in Malpractice Lawsuit

MARCH 29, 2002

TLC Medial Director of Garden City, Eric Donnenfeld, along with several other surgeons suggests marketing lasik to non-candidates:

"Tell every patient that you perform LASIK. Tell patients who would never be candidates themselves, including cataract patients and patients with chronic or intractable eye disease. Every single patient you see can be a referral source, and may be your best referral source." http://www.revophth.com/1999/july_articles/79...

One nurse who had cataract surgery with Dr. Donnenfeld, is not likely to provide a positive referral for Dr. Donnenfeld's lasik services:

Article from the New York Law Journal:

VERDICT:$2.5 million

Frances Kavanagh v. Eric Donnenfield, MD., 30138/96

Nassau Supreme

JUSTICE: Thomas P. Phelan

ATTORNEYS: David M. SHearer of Shearer & Essner, L.L. P., Manhattan, for plaintiff;

Angela Fabiano of the Law Offices of Mitchell J. Angel PLLC, Mineola, for Dr. Eric Donnenfeld.

FACTS: On April 12, 1995, Frances Kavanagh, a 68-year-old retired nurse, underwent a cataract extraction by Dr. Eric Donnenfeld at the Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre. Ms. Kavanagh claimed that during the administration of anesthesia the doctor injured her left eye. She also claimed that the doctor failed to timely diagnose the injury despite the presence of a vitreous hemorrhage post-operatively.

Ms. Kavanagh further claimed that Dr. Donnenfeld failed to properly treat the post-operative bleeding, resulting in the formation of a macular hole.

Dr. Donnenfeld contended that the post-operative bleeding and the formation of the macular hole were caused by vitreous traction, which was caused by a vitreous wick that resulted from the disruption to the zonules during the cataract extraction. The doctor further claimed that the vitreous traction caused a retinal tear, causing bleeding and the macular hole.

Ms. Kavanagh claimed that she now suffers permanent "finder count" vision in her left eye, and that she is virtually blind in that eye.

DISBURSEMENT:$2.5 million. Breakdown:$1.5 million for past pain and suffering; $1 million for future pain and suffering.

George Bush on September 21 thru 22, 2003, should be entirely lacking in difficulty”(Leola McConnell—Nevada Progressive Democratic Candidate for U.S. Senate in 2010).
McConnell is correct: Bush applying pressure (continuously criminally stalking Margie Schoedinger) purposefully to force Schoedinger to commit suicide does in fact constitute murder where it culminated in her death.
Bush’s method of murdering Schoedinger cannot exist in a vacuum: he must have murdered other people in the same way.
During Bush’s presidency, of course Bush would have desired to kill people whom he hated or get them out of his way. Insofar as Bush was clearly capable of murdering Schoedinger—even in “broad daylight”—and is clearly capable of getting away with it, in consideration of common sense and the laws of human nature, Bush of course murdered numerous people in the disgusting way he murdered Schoedinger. One can examine public information; in various situations where people who sought to oppose or disadvantage Bush ever so frighteningly ended up “committing suicide”—specifically—Bush murdered them just like he murdered Schoedinger. For example, Bush continuously criminally stalked James Howard Hatfield to the point that he could not get away from it, and he committed suicide in desperation to escape: Bush murdered Hatfield. However, the vast majority of such scandalous information will never come out (the grisly details are typically hard to substantiate). A prosecutor really can lawfully charge a former president with murdering one or more people in the disgusting way Bush murdered Schoedinger. The American people unfortunately live in a world where evil presidents can murder any number of people—figuratively—with a wave of a magic wand and get away with it.

Re: Dr. Eric Donnenfeld whacked with $3 million malpractice judgement
There are no appealable issues, at least not for the defense. This
verdict will, largely, stand, but the point is still missed. This isn't
about justice for Dr. Donnenfeld, he didn't do this intentionally, this
is about justice for the plaintiff who will suffer for the rest of her
life as a result of what took place. This is about raising the bar, not
vengeance. Ken Keith

I write as a friend of Rich. I have never seen Dr. Wong, and hopefully I never have to see a
doctor for the reasons that Rich saw Dr. Wong, but I know first-hand that Rich’s experience with
Dr. Wong has had a dramatic adverse effect. Rich used to be a guy that rarely complained about anything -- I never heard one complaint from Rich related to his by-pass surgery -- and
when he did complain, it was once or twice and that was it. Also, Rich would not dwell on others
mistakes. If he did complain, it was once and then he accept what happened and moved on.

Now, after Rich’s experience with Dr. Wong, he complains regularly either directly about Dr.
Wong or the state that Dr. Wong’s surgery has left him. I cannot think of one aspect of Rich’s
life that the botch surgery has not been the cause of a complaint. Rich used to tell me about trips he went on with his wife; now, if he does travel, I don’t hear about it, presumably because his ability to enjoy himself was severely hampered by his eyes tearing and not being able to stay outside for extended periods. Rich’s chronic condition, i.e., tearing eyes, and scars, has affected his mood and attitude about everything. He has gone from virtually always positive, to mostly negative.

Everyone takes their health for granted and doesn’t think much of other people’s complaints
because they think others exaggerate, but Rich is the one of last guys to complain, let alone
frequently complain. Rich’s complaints have made me realize that complaints about doctors
should be taken more seriously, and that people should not take for granted that if someone is a
doctor they could do no wrong.
I have learned that it is very important to investigate any doctor that you are considering seeing: check their background -- see if any complaints have been registered -- their schooling and what they have been certified to do. Try to learn from others bad experiences. I feel bad saying something like this as when it comes to someone’s health you hope that no one has a bad experience with a doctor. I feel especially bad that I say this in the context of my friend Rich as he truly did not deserve to have his life changed the way that Dr. Wong has changed it.

Now you be the judge look at the scars and how my lids droop. Is he a plastic surgeon? Is he a surgeon period? How does the Medical board allow this Doctor Peter Wong to practice? Has anyone seen Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Maybe this is where Doctor Peter Wong learned from the viewing of this movie. People stand up take notice he has damaged me.Ophthalmic Consultants Of Long Island can not be much better look at their record. I will stand behind what I say as i will allow anyone to view my eyes. I will soon parade up and down without disturbing the peace at the centers where he performs surgery and will do it again so others will see prior to their allowing him to operate. The truth is in seeing then they can judge for themselves.
