The parents' right to seek treatment for their son has not been infringed. Nor have they lost the right to proclaim any nonsense they want to anyone they want, including their son.

But no therapist can subject their son to harmful procedures.

Similarly, dentists aren't supposed to pull all the normal, healthy teeth out of a child's mouth, even if the parents want him to. We don't have a specific law for that, but any dentist who complied with such a request would lose their home and their livelihood.

Good lord. So now parents are suing for the right to psychologically abuse their children.

When I was a kid, a bunch of Southern Baptists that believed in beating their sons with 2x4's to beat the evil out of them were prosecuted for child abuse and assault with intent to do great bodily harm after one of the boys was "accidentally" crippled and paralyzed from the waste down by his good "christian", god-fearing father.

Members of their church all marched around with signs declaring that they could do anything they wanted to their children because the Bible says they can and it's a religious freedom issue.

Many of them went to prison and the sons were mostly raised in foster care because their parents refused to acknowledge that beating children until they could no longer walk wasn't "god's work".

I see no difference between beating a child with a 2x4 and forcing them to go through "therapy" that's designed to destroy them both emotionally and psychologically.

Unbelievable. You truly DO need religion in order to do truly evil things.

OK am I missing something here?

-a couple who claim their constitutional rights are being violated because the law prevents them from trying to turn gay teenagers straight.

-An APA report on "appropriate therapeutic responses to sexual orientation" conceded that minors were underrepresented in the research and that there was a lack of scientifically sound research on the issue,

-so therefore the couple sees no reason to ban them from trying unproven therapies on their child that may be potentially harmful.

Sort of reminds me of Tobacco company execs saying the research doesn't exist that proves smoking might be harmful so what's the fuss about allowing children to smoke

This young man is being brainwashed to believe in something and because of this he is being abused by the very parents who claim to love him......these parents need to watch "PRAYERS FOR BOBBY"!!!

There is NO outdated literature that the Attorney for the parents or other therapist can truly claim.......one's sexual orientation is NOT changeable and even the "NICE" folks at Exodus Internationale agree that for all they tried......they failed!!!

I do suicide prevention in the Trans community, I myself have over 800 saves to my name the whole site I work for has over 20,000 saves without a single loss, thats a success rate of 100% many of the suicidal and depressed trans people we help have been subject to this horrible harmful therapy, Open heart surgery has a 97% success rate. Now so called ex gay therapy has a documented success rate of 0.01% thats 1, ONE person for every 1000 that attempt it. Would ANYONE in their right mind go to a surgeon that only is sucesfull one out of one thousand surgerys? NO they wouldnt. These parents should be brought up on charges of conspicery to commit child abuse. If they do somehow get their child into this therapy and the child does what the most likely outcome of ex gay "therapy" and commits suicide they should be brought up on charges of child abuse resulting in death.

Not trying to be a bitch. 0.01% equates to one in 10,000 (and I doubt if it is that high.)

The parents still have the right to psychologically use their son, and I have no doubt that the abuse continues at this very moment. What they cannot do legally is hire a professional psychologist at $175/hr to further the abuse.

Of course, they are still free to let the charlatans at their church help them further the abuse, and I have no doubt they will accommodate.

Religion should come with a disclaimer.

Caution, belief in this may lead to delusion and mental illness.
