ALL QUINONLONES SHOULD BE PULLED FROM THE MARKET PERIOD.
OF ALL THE MEDICATIONS THAT I HAVE TAKEN, THIS IS THE WORST REACTION I HAVE EVER HAD. HAD I NOT HAD ANY PREVIOUS ALLERGIES TO MEDICATIONS BEFORE, I WOULD HAVE LEFT THE DOCTORS OFFICE AND NEVER THOUGHT TWICE. INSTEAD I ALMOST DIED. I WAS VERY LUCKY TO HAVE BEEN SITTING THERE WHEN I BEGAN TO HAVE SERIOUS DIFFICULTY BREATHING. AGAIN I SAY PULL EM!

Same reaction. Was given Tequin for suspected pneumonia. Took it for three days - going from bad to worse. Finally, when I could no longer breathe except in gasps, went to emergency room around the corner from my house (the only reason I am still alive) and stayed in the critical care section for 8 days under complete sedation. Try a $40,000 uninsured bill for care. Lawsuit time.

Anyone with any good results? My Dr just prescribed for acute sinus infection and after reading all this I'm afraid to use. The pharmacist told me it has very little side affects.

Levoquin has worked very well for chronic sinusitis; 500mg for 14 days. Other drugs were just not working. No side effects.

bewae this stuff is posion. do some research on these drugs. theres over 1600 members on yahoo quinolone survivors support group. hundeds of thousands of people have had their lives altered by this garbage. i have so many problems now from this crap. skin damage, torn tendons, muscle damage, nerve damage, vison damage, hearing, cognitive problems, phototoxicity. these problems persist more than two years afterwards. these side effects are anyhting but rare. ocuring commonly weeks or even months after treatment.these drugs wwere meant for life and death infections.side effects have been reported in studies up to 70 percent of the time. unless you want to run the risk of ending up a cripple bitter wreck like i and many others, stay far away from these poisons.

I have taken Levaquin several times, as has my husband. We have had ABSOLUTELY NO SIDE EFFECTS from this drug. And as an emergency nurse for more than 15 years, I have seen literally thousands of patient who take this medication for infections. I have never seen a patient with these type of problems. The only side effect I have ever seen that was bad enough to discontinue treatment was diarrhea. Could some of the symptoms people describe actually be a self-fulfilling prophecy after they read comments like the ones on this site?

be happy you experienced no side effects hundreds of thousands of people have had their lives altered by this crap. your obviously just ignorant as your comments have just proved. the thing is many patients dont make the connection to the drug as side effects can occur weeks and even months later. many nurses like yourself and doctors have no idea how potent this drug is. if you do a little research you will see hundreds of stories of people who have had their lives destroyed by this poison.theres over 1600 members on a yahoo support group alone. it unfortunate there are people like yourself who lacks the knowledge of these drugs and are unwilling to listen to patients. maybe your just an idiot? or perhaps your posting on behalf of the drug companies either way the side effects from thesedrugs are vey real....

Cynthia - consider yourself and your husband both very lucky. Today is the 1st time seen this site so can't be "self-fulfilling" anything. My husband ended up with SJS-TENS,liver problems & kidney failure & loss of 30 lbs, then sudden onset of diabetes (no prev probs or family history & hyperthyroidism & now down 35 lbs, then wonderful
MRSA from hospital, then flu from hospital-his floor was quarantined!! At this point down to 114 lbs and a brittle diabetic taking 4 insulin shots a day. Then the hyperthyroidism changed over to hypothyroidism. In 3 wks went from very healthy 55 to someone who looked 80 and lost 26% of his body weight. This all from 5 wks of Avelox, but when rushed to hospital it was "routine" to put patients on IV of 750 Levaquin...unfortunately for him his emergency was an ADR to the very drugs they started pumping him full of. Our lives will NEVER BE THE SAME and he would gladly trade you your health for what he has now.We have 2 close friends who are nurses & they were shocked at what they saw this do to him. Open your mind - it is closed minded medical staff like your comments that are part of the quinolone problem. If you work in ER you only see the emergencies, you wouldn't see the patients coming back with side effects & problems, they are seeing the kidney specialists, endrocrinologists & numerous other specialists & doctors who are trying to treat all of the many symptoms caused by quinolone poisoning. It needs desperately to be taken seriously by the medical profession.

"Could some of the symptoms people describe actually be a self-fulfilling prophecy after they read comments like the ones on this site?"

This is the type of ignorant crap most people in the medical field say to people who are already suffering through a nightmare. Go to www.fqresearch.org , read the entire website, and then try saying that again. There is no way to IMAGINE symptoms like this can cause. There is no way to IMAGINE DNA and ANA damage and more on blood tests. Bayer themselves admits this causes changes ON A CELLULAR LEVEL, in connective tissues.

Did people imagine tendon ruptures, too? You say you are an ER nurse. How many patients come back and tell you how they are doing? Your statement is really ignorant. How many people do you think do not even REALISE that it was the antibiotic that caused it?

If you are a nurse, then you can figure out hopefully, that everyone is different. Some people are more susceptible to side effects than others. But do you really think people IMAGINE things like Stevens Johnson syndrome or seizures? Do you think they THINK themselves into being an invalid for years at a time?? Thousands of people. Documented cases for over 60 years now from this class of drugs.

Go and READ some stuff about this and then maybe you won't slap suffering people in the face like you just did. A lot of us hear similar mocking statements from doctors...who dont even take time to read the background on drugs before prescribing them for every little sniffle. People like YOU tell us it is safe and fine. YOU HAVE A LOT TO LEARN.

I wouldn't be too quick to think that there are no effects as all fluoroquinolones are cumulative in the body and not showing up right away until you have surpassed your bodies tolerance. That is one of the reasons that they are so dangerous. It is the insiduous processess that go on in the body particularly in the immune system that finally breaks forth into full blown often irreversable manifestations.
It is fully recognized that auto-immune diseases often follow a viral infection but our brilliant medical profession hasn't got around to questioning the effects of meds taken for those viral infections that ultimatly were the real reason for the destruction of the immune system.

Since taking 10 days of Levaquin, I'm physically NOT the same. Beginning the second day I noticed that I was having joint pain and it was symmetrical, both shoulders, both hips, both knees. I almost fell the next day when I tried to kneel on the floor because my knees wouldn't bend that far. When I sit for longer than an hour, I can barely walk. At times I have to turn over in bed because the weight on my hip is painful enough to wake me. I obviously have water on both knees since a pad protrudes on the side of my knee when I bend it 90 degrees. I feel like something happened in my "brain" to trigger joint paint and the production of fluid in my joints. I was in quite good condition for a 60-year-old woman, but now feel my age. The idea this may be permanent is just unthinkable!!

I read this page and laughed out loud at the complaining on this page! You people were obviously sick enough for your doctor to give you a strong antibiotic. Chances are if you were not given a strong drug, you would have died. Remember how things were 100 years ago before antibiotics?! Of course with any drug there will be some people that have negative reactions. That is unfortunate. Would you rather the alternative?! Nothing is perfect but the good certainly outweighs the bad. If you are so concerned, don't take the drug!!! Nobody is forcing you to!

My husband just started this medicine 2 days ago for a kidney infection and I came across this site and hundreds of others concerning these types of drugs. I am so glad I did. I told him to call the Dr in the morning and not to take anymore. He called our pharmacist and ask him about it and he said those side effects were from long term use only....BULL Sh...t I have read most of them and they start anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks after taking the drug. I dont care how mad our Dr gets, its our body and not his. WE will not take it EVER AGAIN. I hope others will stop as well. If everyone refuses they will have to stop making it cause it will be a waste of money and time.
