There are better and more appropriate ways in settling our disputes, there will be no need for fighting. Guyana is a very decent country and we will settle our matters in a civilized manner

We are getting work up for noting Venezuela would not go to war with Guyana, we have such a good relationship with our neighboring Venezuela and there are treaties that bind the two country in brotherhood for instance the PETERO CARIB deal and recently the UNASUR Constitutive Treaty which was signed on May 23, 2008,

The Chavez revolution wants to UNIFIED all of South America NOT TAKE. so the entire region is not controlled by outsiders.
Correction: Chavez wants a unified LATIN America. There's a big difference.

Guyana not fighting has more to do with it's inability to effectively do so than decency. The ramifications of military action against Venezuela would be devastating to Guyana and its economy.

I agree that Guyana should do everything in their power to settle such disputes diplomatically. At the same time, Venezuela should certainly be wary about jeopardizing their global standing as well as stability in the region by launching any type of offensive against a country like Guyana.

Fellow bloggers as you may notice I have an opinion on almost anything. With regards to the current topic in my humble opinion Guyana has nothing to fear. Although a territorial dispute between these two neighbours exists, Guyana is committed towards extending the hand of friendship to Venezuela but will not do that at the expense of compromising its territorial integrity. Further,“eversince the Protocol of Port of Spain was signed in 1970, Guyana has been actively pursuing a policy of friendship and cooperation with Venezuela.” The former has also sought to establish people to people contacts with its western neighbour in areas of student exchanges, sports and culture, and through the establishment of links with Non Governmental Organisations so as to further concrete friendly relations.

: In addition it is pertinent to note that His Excellency Dr. Odeen Ishmael in an interview when questioned about Guyana’s relationship with Venezuela , he stated “The relationship has improved tremendously over the last three to four years. There is a high respect from both sides for the other. I think this has a lot to do with the personal friendship between the two Presidents of our countries. Mr Hugo Chávez and Bharrat Jagdeo are on a first-name-basis. There`s also a longstanding friendship between the people of the two countries, despite the border problem. There have been close interchanges for decades. Many people in Guyana regard the border issue to be an issue for the politicians, not for the common people. The issue is now dealt with by the United Nations, and people are happy about that.”

Further to the ongoing discussion, for those who may be unaware it should be noted that, we have a bilateral Commission.. The commission focuses on all different sorts of issues, such as political relationships, infrastructure, fisheries, drugs prevention, sports, culture, education and health. Sometimes, on specific topics, we set up special commissions. Usually our Ministers of Foreign Affairs meet at the same time. This is indicative of the camaraderie which exist between the two countries. So the Prophets of doom should desist from suggesting anything inflammatory.
