Black Women and Guns in Texas

There are 57 comments on the Free Republic story from Jul 12, 2012, titled Black Women and Guns in Texas. In it, Free Republic reports that:

I saw a couple of people citing this Utne Reader article, which reports that 'Texas Department of Public Safety data show that the fastest-growing group of concealed handgun owners in the state has been, for at least five years, black women' . And, as I always like to do, I decided to check the statistics for myself.

Well-said...and you can start today by not referring to your Brothers by that N-word. I hear Black folks mad at white-folks for using it, but they are doing it all the time. And don't use that tired cop-out that it's a 'term of endearment'.
If you want to be respected, respect each-other! Encourage youngsters to excel at positive endeavors, and lead by example.
But I'm still gonna stay away from Texas LOL.
I'd like to see some photographs of your testicles.

I don't know what is the big issue about this? Everyone has the right to own a gun to protect themselves no matter what color, sex, religion, or even sexual orientation.
With the increase of the "single" status among women in general...protection is a requirement these days..I go practically no where without my 9mm glock...and every BW should have a handgun!

If its Eddy or Jack then I think its sad to follow me round on topix.......even sadder than me using forums.

If I don't know you at all then fair play.

no one in government is trying to take anyones guns. Guns should be regulated. I'm talking about if there is a collapse of our government, when it's every man//woman for him/herself.

because they are dangerous in the wrong hands. There should be thorough background checks in all states. No exceptions.

No, the guns aren't any more dangerous in one hand vs. another.
Or is it yuor assertion that the gun taes on some magical powers depending on who is holding it?

Why? We don't require background checks for the purchase of an automobile...knife....baseball bat...chemicals/flammables.... rope...

If this story is about BW owning guns then chances are they are buying them for their men. It's been happening forever where these guys will pay women or even other men will clean records to buy guns for them since they can no do it. The guys believe they are getting over but they are not because if something goes down all the women have to do is tell why they bought the gun in the first place.

YOUR WHITE ASS IS ALWAYS SAYING THAT BW DONT HAVE MEN! YOU ALSO CLAIM WE ARE ALL FELONS!

also, youre an i/diot.if a man commits a crime with a gun thats registered to someone else, they will both be in trouble.a bw with a clean record is not d/umb,or weak enough to give a bm a gun thats registered in his name.THATS THE KIND OF STUFF BM HAVE WW FOR! SORRY TRASHY! YOU'RE WRONG!

yeah, a gun takes on a magic power in the hands of lunatics and criminals. A person who has told people in the past, for example, that he would like to harm others. A documented poor mental health history, should not be able to get a gun. Cars are statistically more dangerous than guns. I believe we should also have stricter laws about who can and cannot drive. I believe people over 55 should be tested at least every two years, complete drivers test, and that there should be a driving curfew for people under 18 unless otherwise permitted to drive, like to work. Also, drunk drivers should lose their liscenses on the first offense for a minimum of 5 years, no exceptions.
In regards to knives and bats, obviously this is a fallacious argument. To be effective with these weapons one must get closer to their victim and be within the size range of their victim. My 6 yr old could not take me, an average size woman, out with these weapons unless he caught me from behind or while I was asleep. But a gun is an equalizer.

Good! More Americans, black or white, male or female, should exercise their 2nd Ammendment rights and get CC permits!
Also, if they actually take the class and acquire their permit legally, that means they've learned the laws and what their responsibilities in regard to carrying weapons: where they can carry, when they can use them, etc.
Makes for a safer society.

Liar. It's an inanimate object.
mojo jojo wrote:

And he can do that in dozens of ways which don't require a gun.
mojo jojo wrote:

Already laws on the books for that.

Based on what? What about people between 18 and 55? Are you sayingthey don't get in accidents?

No argument there.

Oh, so people that are killed with guns are more important to you than people killed with knives. Interesting.

That's right, the gun is the equalizer and as such we don't need more hoops to jump thriough to get one.
Or is it the fact that they equalize the playing field when dealing with perps that bothers you?

WTH, I have plenty of hand guns, long guns, and want a lot more. Now of days you have to protect yourself and your family so whatever color or race you are , it's your right to own as many as you like or want. If people has a problem with it they need to stay out of our business.
