<quoted text>Joyce Lee Malcolm: Two Cautionary Tales of Gun Control

After a school massacre, the U.K. banned handguns in 1998. A decade later, handgun crime had doubled.

Americans are determined that massacres such as happened in Newtown, Conn., never happen again. But how? Many advocate more effective treatment of mentally-ill people or armed protection in so-called gun-free zones. Many others demand stricter control of firearms.

We aren't alone in facing this problem. Great Britain and Australia, for example, suffered mass shootings in the 1980s and 1990s. Both countries had very stringent gun laws when they occurred. Nevertheless, both decided that even stricter control of guns was the answer. Their experiences can be instructive....

...According to their study, the use of handguns rather than long guns (rifles and shotguns) went up sharply, but only one out of 117 gun homicides in the two years following the 1996 National Firearms Agreement used a registered gun. Suicides with firearms went down but suicides by other means went up. They reported "a modest reduction in the severity" of massacres (four or more indiscriminate homicides) in the five years since the government weapons buyback. These involved knives, gas and arson rather than firearms.

In 2008, the Australian Institute of Criminology reported a decrease of 9% in homicides and a one-third decrease in armed robbery since the 1990s, but an increase of over 40% in assaults and 20% in sexual assaults.

What to conclude? Strict gun laws in Great Britain and Australia haven't made their people noticeably safer, nor have they prevented massacres. The two major countries held up as models for the U.S. don't provide much evidence that strict gun laws will solve our problems.

<quoted text>Gun Control is Why Chicago Murder Rates Are Skyrocketing

Charlie Vidal

Chicago finished out 2012 with a bang, as it passed a major milestone hitting over 500 murders. Chicago has started off 2013 on the wrong foot, with this past week’s murder rate outpacing 2012’s.

In the wake of Sandy Hook, many people have called for increased gun control. While they have mostly targeted so called “assault weapons,” proponents of gun control have also sought to further limit handguns. Chicago has some of the strictest gun control laws in the country. Illinois remains the only state in the country where nobody can legally carry a concealed weapon, and lawmakers recently introduced measures to restrict legal gun ownership even more.

http://www.policymic.com/articles/22622/gun-c...
Gun control policies don’t work because they disarm citizens while keeping criminals in possession of guns. Chicago’s strict policies have effectively given lawbreakers a monopoly on weapons in many parts of the city that the Chicago Police Department cannot or will not police effectively.

A nice contrast to Chicago for a natural experiment is Houston. Houston is very similar to Chicago in terms of socioeconomic factors such as population, density, and segregation. Houston, like Chicago, is a major center for illegal activities such as the drug trade and human trafficking. Despite all this, Houston has a murder rate two-thirds that of Chicago. This is because the people of Houston are well armed, while innocents in Chicago have been condemned to be sitting ducks.

Conservatives on here:

Do we want less fun controls to protect ourself and family from Liberal criminals (all criminals are Liberals) OR to protect ourselves from an oppressing government?

Let's forget about the lower crime rate with lower gun controls and concentrate on an oppressive government that will put you in jail if you do not eat what they tell you, drink more than you are allowed or drive the wrong kind of car.

The city violent crime rate for Chicago in 2010 was higher than the national violent crime rate average by 148.31% and the city property crime rate in Chicago was higher than the national property crime rate average by 44%.

In 2010 the city violent crime rate in Chicago was higher than the violent crime rate in Illinois by 130.33% and the city property crime rate in Chicago was higher than the property crime rate in Illinois by 58.02%.
http://www.cityrating.com/crime-statistics/il...

Texas crime statistics indicate a total upward trend in crime based on data from 11 years when violent crime was decreasing and property crime was increasing.

Based on this report, the crime rate in Texas for 2013 is expected to be higher than in 2010 when the state violent crime rate was higher than the national violent crime rate average by 35.03% and the state property crime rate was higher than the national property crime rate average by 49.92%.

The Preamble to The Bill of Rights

Congress of the United States
begun and held at the City of New-York, on
Wednesday the fourth of March, one thousand seven hundred and eighty nine.

THE Conventions of a number of the States, having at the time of their adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to PREVENT MISCONSTRUCTION or ABUSE of its powers, that further DECLARATORY and RESTRICTIVE clauses should be added: And as EXTENDING the ground of PUBLIC CONFIDENCE in the Government, will BEST ENSURE the beneficent ends of its institution.

RESOLVED by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America, in Congress assembled, two thirds of both Houses concurring, that the following Articles be proposed to the Legislatures of the several States, as amendments to the Constitution of the United States, ALL, or any of which Articles, when RATIFIED by three fourths of the said Legislatures, to be VALID to ALL INTENTS and PURPOSES, as PART of the said Constitution; viz.

ARTICLES in addition to, and Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America, proposed by Congress, and ratified by the Legislatures of the several States, pursuant to the fifth Article of the original Constitution.

Amendment II

DECLARATORY clause;

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state,

RESTRICTIVE clause;

the Right of the People to Keep and Bear Arms, shall NOT be infringed.

But that doesn't even matter. For We The People had the Right to Keep and Bear Arms BEFORE the Constitution. It was the right of the British subject secured in the English Bill of Rights 1689:

"An Act Declaring the Rights and Liberties of the Subject and Settling the Succession of the Crown

"... That the subjects which are Protestants may have arms for their defence suitable to their conditions and as allowed by law; ..."

The 2nd amendment expanding that PREEXISTING right however:

"The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, and this without any qualification as to their condition or degree, as is the case in the British government...."

"....This may be considered as the true palladium of liberty....The right of self-defense is the first law of nature; in most governments it has been the study of rulers to confine this right within the narrowest limits possible. Whenever standing armies are kept up, and the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any color or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction."

"...In America we may reasonably hope that the people will never cease to regard the right of keeping and bearing arms as the surest pledge of their liberty..."

- St. George Tucker, Blackstone's Commentaries,(1803).(Mr. Tucker was a Lawyer and Professor of law at the College of William and Mary. He was appointed one of the committee to revise the laws of Virginia, and he served with James Madison and Edmund Randolph as Virginia commissioners to the Annapolis Convention. In 1803 Tucker became a judge of the highest court in Virginia. In 1813 he was appointed by President James Madison to be the United States district judge for Virginia. Tucker also, as District Court judge, sat with Chief Justice John Marshall on the U.S. Circuit Court in Richmond.).

See? Liberals are brain dead hypocrites...
but also...
After a generation learns a lesson the next generation forgets. But then Liberalism wins and shows its fruits and people realize they want nothing todo with it and then people claim for a Ronald Reagan landslide as Obama never had nor had seen before!!!
See? People did not know that Liberalism means pills for little girls, legal sex with animals, polygamy, more open borders and terrorist attacks as in third works countries, giving free guns to Mexican mafia, free healthcare to non tax payer illegals, fee college tuition to illegals while citizens must pay higher tuition to subsidize them, high homicides near the borders, tax payer money wasted in green energy scams by hypocrites who sell station to oil burning countries like hotel puppy love Liberal Al Gore did, abortion on demand, legalized infanticide, legalized child prostitution by Liberals in charge, exempt from Obamacare Liberal politicians, religious persecution of Catholics via Obamacare, billion vacation expenses by Obama elites, and finally the establishment of Islam by "my Muslim faith" man-child Communty agitator Santa Claus wanna be Barrack Benghazy Obama.
"Funny after Carter won Liberals claimed it was the end of Conservatism"!!!

Only there is no such party as "conservative" or any movement called "conservatism", unless you mean a bowel movement.

Just like the Tea Party, self proclaimed "conservatives" are FOS.

Repackaged neocons and republicans painting vertical black stripes on a white dog and proclaiming " it's a zebra".
