Don't treat your kids as if they are more dangerous than a home intruder. Keep your home defense gun ready enough to use it if needed AND maintain a balance of safety for your kids.

Securing a gun or guns can also keep them from an Intruder and then using it on you or your kids.

Why does Govt tell us/you how to keep or store our guns ? Govt doesn't give a damm, one way or the other, if a kid shoots someone (I think they like it when an innocent is shot because it helps them justify more antigun laws).

The only purpose of the 2d amendment is to prohibit the Govt from regulating our weapons.

I don't trust anything "biometrically engineered" and requiring batteries and circuitry. Too-many 'moving parts' to fail just when you need it most and seconds count. Now, if you must rationalize or justify this sort of thing to protect your kids, well-then, go with God. But I believe one needs immediate access to a firearm when something goes bump in the night...right there on your nightstand ret-to-go. And another on your partner's side for good measure.

Also, when you share your home with any others, it's good to have a master plan as-to what everybody is to do if there is an emergency situation...akin to having 'battle-stations', and outlining safety measures to avoid any friendly fire.

Outfitting a safe room is one such strategy. A bathroom or large closet will do, or any room that has a door that can be rigged to shutout an intruder and give you time to call for help and insulate yourself (and/or loved ones) from the Threat. In my case, this room has (in addition to self defence tools) some basic survival items available in-case of a tornado incident or any temporary emergency. The time to do this is now.

You could keep one handgun in a bio safe.

Do you believe in good luck? Well you should, because you're surrounded by it today. Grab every opportunity that comes along because you never know when you'll get another chance, especially if travel or education is involved. It's also a good day for having a modest gamble, provided that you can afford to lose your stake if your luck suddenly runs out.
