Will a law requiring gun owners to lock up guns in their house have a real effect on gun owners or save lives? The only effect I see is to get the attention (for a few seconds) of some gun owning parents who will say to themselves. "Gee, guess I should do more to protect little Tommy", and then they'll go to the fridge and get another beer and forget all about it.

Just like trying to legislate morality, you can't pass a law to fix stupid. And idiots will spawn more idiots who become idiot parents. EFFECTIVE education is what we need in this country. And until curriculums are changed to teach practical living strategies instead of liberal group-think, kids will keep being dumb and become dumb parents who leave their guns where their kids will play with them.

I am not suggesting teachers should be anti-gun. I am espousing teachers teach their pupils what they will be facing in the real world: How to get and keep a job, manage a budget, deal with bureaucracies, evaluate prospective candidates for public office, know their rights, choose good life partners, and for-Godsake, learn to keep their kids safe from guns, swimming pools and dangerous strangers.

So you would support the NRA "Eddie Eagle Program" of gun safety geared towards school children...?
