I thought a firearm was standard equipment for a convenience store clerk. If it isn't, it ought to be. The corporation is just covering their butt by carrying out the punishment for breaking the rules. It's their way to distance themselves from the act. This rule is to placate the insurance company, unless they are self-insured. If self insured, they still wouldn't want to risk an accidental discharge in their stores. So, they consider it better to lose a clerk and a couple hundred dollars to an unfortunate incident, than to permit their employees to defend themselves and the store and customers.

I'm not siding with the corporation, just pointing out that it's a vexing problem from their POV. They ought to just make up their mind to allow those with carry permits to carry since the state considers them okay.

The fired clerk should sue Circle K for failing to provide a safe work environment and protect him from the criminals.

I agree with that. Where is OSHA when you need them? Workplace safety is a must. It looks like Circle K really bought themselves a multi-million dollar lawsuit this time if this former employee can find himself a high powered law firm willing to sponsor him. There are YouTube videos all over the place of people getting robbed in Circle K's. Just go to youtube and search on circle K robbery and see for yourself. This has got to stop, one way or another.
If Circle K can't stand behind their employees who are innocently doing their jobs, then this company needs to die.

That's a giant leap from my simple post to your calling me a moron. How gracious of you. You can climb back into the trailer now.
Look dude, places like Circle K obviously are not interested in guarding their employees, even in the back room where this manager was doing his paperwork.

Now if you are so damn stupid that you have to call me a moron without understanding that, then you need to find yourself on the wrong end of a gun in a workplace that cares as little about your life as Circle K does.

I'm sure your attitude will magically change for the better in less than 1/10,000th of a second. In the mean time, go ahead and keep your head up your cowardly butt. What a drip. Haven't you got anything better to do? You haven't added even one atom of understanding to this situation.

Or maybe you are part of the Circle K ring of death. In that case, bad things are headed your way.

I think that SatanRules is a 13 year old, off away in his darkened room behind his door in the trailer while daddy who is wearing his 10 day old dirty wife-beater shirt, is sipping beer watching the games on that old TV while mom is taking an extremely long time getting back to the trailer court from Walmart where she seems to go every day for several hours at a time.

Listen, SatanRules, if you were a devil worshiper, why would you care if bullets are flying by hitting customers? I call shenanigans.

It seems to me the answer would be for the stores to hire an off duty cop or a security guard. If the employer doesn't want to furnish it's employees armed protection then the employees should be given the option of having a firearm. The very least the employer could do would be to keep the employees behind bullet proof glass.
It was only a year or so ago when a lady manager of that same Circle K was gunned down and killed. Why was she working by herself late at night?
Seems to me the employer should take some responsibility of giving it's employees some protection.

The vast majority of us who own legal firearms know how to safely hit our intended target. Most of us also know to be aware of what is beyond our target. It is those who hold their stolen gun sideways that spray the bullets. Them, and insane nutjobs that we treat like victims of illness and don't lock up in asylums anymore.

You're a moron. I don't pretend to be protecting anyone but myself when I choose to carry. Why do you anti-gun people always use that stupid hillbilly label? Maybe cause you know what you're saying is retarded. Your statement just shows what scared little boy you are. Now go put on some black lipstick, fondle your cats, and shop at Hot Topic or whatever you wannabe satanist do these days when you're not playing World of Warcraft.

Circle K really should be penalized for this. It really shows that their image to anti-gun blowhards is much more important than an employee using all his available resources to protect himself from danger. These jerk-off's who think you should just comply and hope the perp does not off you ( which happens often enough even when their demands are met) need to stop being pandered to. Let them move to Europe if they hate firearms so much.

“A Law of Nature is a precept, or general rule, found out by reason, by which a man is forbidden to do that which destructive of his life, or take away the means of preserving the same; and to omit that by which he thinks it may be best preserved.… Consequently it is a precept, or general rule of reason, that every man ought to endeavor peace, as far as he has hope of obtaining it; and when he cannot obtain it, that he may seek, and use, all helps and advantages of war.”

“…a man cannot lay down the right of resisting them that assault him by force, to take away his life…”.
“A covenant not to defend myself from force, by force, is always void. For no man can transfer, or lay down his right, to save himself from death, wounds, and imprisonment.”

“The right men have by Nature to protect themselves, when none else can protect them, can by no Covenant [the agreement between individuals to form a government, and the laws enacted thereby] be relinquished.”--Thomas Hobbes, Leviathan, 1651.
