There are only three places a handgun should ever be (and this includes both loaded and unloaded handguns; skip No. 1 for long guns):
1. in a holster on your belt;
2. in your hands under your direct control;
3. or in a LOCKED safe or gun cabinet.

PERIOD!

At no time should a firearm EVER be left unattended, ESPECIALLY if children are around.
