Which is better; the Glock 23 or the Kahr P40?

I already own the Glock 23 and was thinking about purchasing the P40 for a little more effective CCW. I've recently read some pretty disturbing reviews on the Kahr P-series and now I'm wondering. Would love to get some feed back on this.

The P40 has had widely-reported jamming problems with the tip of the bullets hanging up on the feed ramp. This led to Kahr offering P40 owners free gunsmithing (ramp polishing) to fix the problem. I polished the ramp on my P40 and it still jams about one every 250 rounds (with FMJ's!!!). Not that there is a snag on the ramp. It just "sticks" to the smooth surface.

I owned a Glock 23 for many years before I bought the P40. Never had a problem. The G23 also has double ammo capacity versus the P40 and is barely bigger. The extra size of the G23 may pose a problem among CCW nudists or extremely deep cover detectives. So if you are one of these two people and cannot conceal a G23, then got for the G27 instead of the P40. If you still want a P40, I will sell you mine.

As a matter of fact, my concealed carry gun is a Glock 23. It actually hides quite nicely in an IWB holster. I've owned it since July of '08, but have only put 50 rounds through it so far (.40 S&W ammo is a little expensive). But it goes BANG and it shoots straight, and that's what matters.

Glocks are accurate, some i heard that the ones chambered for high pressure rounds rips the bottom of the shell off, IE..40 and 357 SIG. Stay away from lead only, cloggs the rifling in those and builds high barrel pressure. Kahr is junk!!

The Kahr p40 is by far my favoritegun. Nothing conceals better, and it has performed flawlessly since day 1.

I was trying to decide between the Glock 27 and the Kahr P-40. Walked into Federal Way Discount Guns and 3 of the 4 employees were packing the Glock 27. I asked the difference and the 10 year vet said the Kahr is junk and the Glock is tried, true, used by law enforcement and will never be in the shop. He sells both guns and was speaking the truth. Needless to say I ended up with the Glock.

I own the 23 and 27 and used to own the Kahr P-40....the Kahr just didn't feel right but it was accurate (it also never jammed but neither did the Glocks). The 27 takes a lot of practice because of the small size/caliber kick but the 23 is perfect all the way around. I cannot recommend a better handgun in the .40 caliber class.

I have the Kahr P40. At the range it shoots straight and true. Problem is the magazine keeps falling out and the slide goes forward chambering a round before you touch the slide release. I sent it back to the company and am waiting for them to repair. I'll post the results.

I own both guns. I wish I'd bought the G23 first.
After I get raped by the Kahr repair shop I'll be looking to sell the P40 cheap. I put 300+ rounds through it before I had problems. First it broke the magazine followers on both mags and simultaneously started to have feed failures. It hangs up every 3 or 4 rounds even after replacing the followers. The Kahr shop will only accept the gun if it's sent overnight($65) and I have to pay return shipping($25)
and a minimum $60 service fee. All due to a factory defect! If you google "Kahr p40 problems" you'll get a site that will show that this has been going on for 3 yrs! Kahr is a shameless outfit that doesn't care about their customers and certainly doesn't care about quality. It may be an accurate and easily concealed gun but if you can't count on it to fire every time it's useless.

To the guy who said Kahr is junk, you're a moron. You may have only been speaking of the P series (and really...if you're going to get a polymer-framed gun go with Glock...they've just about perfected them), but if you're speaking of Kahr as a whole, then yes, you're a moron. I've owned the K9 and I currently own and carry the K40 off duty. Phenomenally accurate, reliable, concealable, and comfortable to shoot. Much more comfortable in the hand than any Glock I've ever owned (and I've owned all of them except the full-auto version), and more accurate to boot. I was consistently hitting a floating can with mine at 114 yards! I know that's impractical for real-world use, but it does give me an idea of what the gun is capable of if I do my part. In addition, the fit and finish is superior to any Glock I've owned. My comments only apply if, again, you were only speaking of the polymer Kahrs. I have no experience with them, but with the steel-framed ones, I honestly don't think I've ever shot a better gun. Their customer service is right shite, but so is what I've experienced from most other firearms companies.

I have my Carry permit and carry the Sig Sauer P229
.357. This is the same weapon that the U.S. Secret Service carries to protect the President.
JMO, the Sig is the best handgun that money can buy. Ammo for the .357 is not cheap but it is a very good round.

I'd pick the Glock over the Kahr when it comes to not only reliability, but firepower.

I have the P40 for a CCW. I have put about 200 rounds through it and it has never jammed. Great straight shooter and conceals very well! I am very pleased with the P40.

I will say that I have never shot the glock though.

Ive had the P40 for almost 2yrs. now and have about 350-400 rounds through it. It seems to jam when loading it by releasing the slide release, if I pull the slide back by hand and give it a full release it seems to load it just fine. I sent it to the factory and they said it was worked on, but I still have the same problem. I figured I didn't have enough rounds through it but it makes me uncomfortable to think it doesn't load smoothly all of the time. I love the feel and comfort for CCW, but may trade up to the G23 or Kahr K40 as "Pistolsmith" seems to know what he speaks of.

You can also use the same magazine for a different Glock model of the same caliber the magazine is used for.

If this guy would spend 10 minutes doing any kind of research at all on the subject, he wouldn't have to ask. Just ask any serviceman, policeman, or owner, Glock...there is no substitute. Gun shops will tell you whatever you want to hear to make a sale. I own a G23 and it is the pride and joy of my small, yet effective, collection.
