Middle School Suicide Of 8th Grade Student Reported At Davidson Middle School In Southgate, Michigan (UPDATE)

Posted: 03/21/2013 11:48 am EDT | Updated: 03/21/2013 7:28 pm EDT

An eighth-grade student brought a gun to school on Thursday and committed suicide, according to officials.

Fire department officials told reporters that the student died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, reportedly in a bathroom, at the Southgate school early Thursday morning.

Davidson Middle School officials put the school on lockdown and contacted parents around 9:15 a.m. to pick up their children, saying at first that the school had a "police situation." WXYZ officials said that some children looked "visibly upset" when exiting the school.

According to WDIV, Southgate Schools Superintendent William Grusecki said the boy did leave a note.

Michigan Department of Education Jan Ellis, said Thursday that it is rare for a suicide to occur inside a public school and added she wasn't sure one had ever occurred in MIchigan before Thursday, according to the Detroit News.

In Detroit, a seven-year-old boy died as a result of an alleged suicide last May.

UPDATE 4:05PM: According to the Detroit News, the 14-year-old boy shot himself in the head with a .40 caliber Glock before classes started at 8 a.m. The News said he was found by another student in the school. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.

No
if you have been paying even the most basic attention the President has been ably obstructed by the GOP particularly in the House.

Well I guess a canard works sometimes. President Bush's program was with the approval of the Mexican government and in fact paired with them. President Obama's was not, so comparing apples and grapefruits are not a fair comparison.

I checked on all of my guns this morning and they were sleeping soundly and very well-behaved. Not one of'em was itchin' to kill anyone. And I pledge to you and all 'concerned' non-gun owning citizens I will oversee their care n feeding AND behavior and ONLY use them for good, never evil. I and the millions of owners and guns who didn't kill anybody today appreciate your concern.

I do believe your 'concerns' are misplaced on us. You need to be looking at the multitude of gang-bangers and mentally ill people who do not care for their firearms as carefully as we do. And your FIRST stop should be with your representatives who are not focusing their horsepower on keeping crazy people and criminals from acquiring and using guns; they find it easier to bother us, and concoct myriad feelgood plans that, in the end, do NOTHING to solve the problem of crazy people and criminals hurting others. Responsible firearms owners do not need any help or hindrances at-all. We do not cause any trouble for anybody.

These people are lamenting the children killed by gun shots, but completely disregard the millions killed in their mommies womb. How can anyone take them serious?

As I believe I've noted, I'd start by repealing the 2nd Amendment. It's long outdated and stands in the way of gun reform.

Then I'd put stiff gun laws in place which would pull guns out of circulation, force strict registration of those remaining, and harshly punish all gun crimes.

Guns ideally would decline in numbers to a fraction of what we have now.

No one takes an anti-choice fanatic and gun lover "serious." You're obviously the one wtih the conflicts here. As the saying goes, the anti-choice side believes that the right-to-life begins at conception and ends at birth.

Seriously, evidently you are WRONG. You are just another Lanza waiting for your child to shoot you with your own guns along with a lot of others who are more innocent because you will let your guns get in the hands of criminals or the mentally ill.

Wasn't Lanza a responsible gun owner?

What about this kid? Where does a white thirteen year old boy in a suburb get a gun to commit suicide? Even the US Constitution says guns are to be regulated. I guess if you're so confident that you will not let others get your guns for crimes or other misuse that you will accept strict liability for the damage that someone causes with your guns if you don't secure them. Something tells me that your promises are empty. Of course you don't want real legal responsibility. You just want to compensate for your inadequacies with your guns.

WHO is it "allowing" it? Not I! Where were the PARENTS! It's a parent's responsibility to safeguard and oversee their children. If a child gets hands on a dangerous tool, the parents are guilty of (criminal in this case)neglect. What does that have to do with the rest of us?
