Here is the problem.

If a person purchases a new gun from a dealer then in a roundabout way they are registered.

Your name, address, DOB, and social security number (if a person list it) plus the make, model, serial number and caliber of the gun are all put on paper and saved.

One of the reasons to not buy from a FFL dealer. All the government needs to do is place that information in a database.
The current administration would like to place a burden on the citizens by mandating that all gun sales be made through a FFL person. This way they will have their federal registration of the guns.

Well, it's just another reason for you people in the U.S. to push real hard to repeal the 1968 Gun Control Act (GCA).

You might be given to remark that any such thing is 'impossible,' but didn't you just cause a defeat of an anti-gun bill in your Senate?

Anything is possible. It just takes time, patience, and perseverance. The thought there? PUSH BACK!

Anyone who thinks this is any kind of victory is sadly mistaken. The only winners are the paranoid conspiracy theory nut jobs who think they need guns to defend against government tyranny. Delusional idiots.
I think if that grade school full of dead first graders was in DC and full of Senators' kids, they might have grown a spine and done the right thing. They are cowards for voting to continue gun sales to the mentally ill and unstable. They have let sown the future innocents who will die because they lacked the integrity to act, bowing to an extreme radical minority whose self worth seems to tied up with their weaponry. It's a sad day for America.
Whahahahahahaha, the president sure sounded like a meuling cat on the only press conference of his that I ever listened to! Hahahaha!

Those aren't registered, the form stays at the dealership and those forms are not alphabetically stored, they are lumped in box on a shelf by the thousands times every FFL in the country, if the feds don't have the resources to get 11 million illegals out of the country they sure as heck don't have the resources to chase down the whereabouts of 300,000,000 million firearms, that may have changed hands many times over since they were sold as new.

You did read the” roundabout way they are registered” part?

And yes they are stored with the dealer for as long as the dealer continues their FFL. If they no longer keep their FFL they are to send all the records to the feds. Or transfer them to another license FFL holder and report the transfer of said records.

Then why push for back ground checks for all transfers of firearms if it will do no good?

No the background check and purchase records are not a registration but is a good start for a database for registration. Now with that said there is always “by law” supposes to be a back ground check for all fire arms sold, with the exception of privately transferred arms. Would a law placing a required back ground check on privately owned fire arms do any good?
