I agree with the letter about gun violence. It has gotten out of hand. Guns should be nearly as easy to get as a driver's license. It should be required that gun purchasers show proof that one has:
1)completed a safety course, including hands on training
2)meet certain eligibility requirements such as not being on a list of felons, stalkers, and mentally ill,
3)have proof of liability insurance.
All of these things and more are done routinely by people wishing to drive in our state, it shouldn't be a burdon for gun purchasers to be nearly as responsible.

I like the objectives of the Concerned Citizens Against Gun Violence and will email them. Thanks for pointing to a local group working for reasonable gun reform.

How about that free speech you using? How do you think you got it? How do you think it's protected? Did you take a course on how to use it? Did you pass a background check? Do you have insurance if you cause harm with it?

As always, write all the laws you want. Laws only affect the law abiding. There are plenty of common sense gun laws on the books right now. They need merely to be enforced.
Background checks for everyone? Do you honestly think Doo Rag of The Big Scary Gang is going to walk into a gun store and do it legally?(No, the gun he uses was stolen-and stealing is a crime) Locks only keep out the honest, and the same is true for guns and gun laws.
And, Not Amused, the reason high capacity clips are available to citizens is because a milita should be equally armed as the military that they are backing or fighting against. Be glad the gun rights folks are happy with guns and ammo and aren't asking for the big toys that the military get to play with.
