You should probably read the article. I think you're misunderstanding the purpose of the law.

Warning shots, in MOST cases, is about the dumbest thing one can do.
That bullet has to hit something or someone before it stops.

Know your target.....if the presence of a gun does not stop an attacker, the first warning shot should be placed center mass in the attackers chest.

Seriously - read the article. Your responses don't have anything to do with the bill that's being reported on.

If you are responding to my post, refute it.
My post has nothing to do with the bill, and I did read the article.
My post only has to do with "Warning Shots."

As long as you understand that with what you posted has nothing to do the "warning shot" bill .

And I was responding to both you and the post before yours that's since been deleted.

How would someone use equal force if a man that is much bigger than say a woman how is she to use equal force, she couldn't. This is another way the government is trying to control us.

The state of Florida passed the law in order to protect the rights of people like the woman in this story. She should not have gone to jail for merely discharging the firearm, so the legislature passed a law allowing "warning shots" in order to prevent anyone else from being convicted for the same thing.

IOW - It isn't government control. It is the exact opposite.

Seriously people - RTFA.

Pure and utter horseshit Danny.

FROM the article, which you supposedly read;

"This bill, if you read it, does not say anything about a warning shot," Evers said. "What this bill does, it says, if you are threatened you can use equal or threatened use of force to protect yourself."

Try reading the article you half wit liar.

I totally agree with you she shouldn't have at all, if she was defending herself that's her right to do so without legal consequences

Send a bullet over the top of the perp's head. As long as you don't hit an innocent person.

If I fired a round into the floor (into the basement) the round would not harm anyone.

Florida's gun laws are improving all the time.

Are you aware of the insanity of that statement?

That bullet fired over someone's head has to hit something to stop, can you guarantee that bullet you fired into the air will not hit an innocent person?
No, you can't.

Warning shots should always be aimed at center mass of the attacker. Nothing else.

No it does not. A bullet can easily lose its power and fall harmlessly to the ground. Get real, nutjob.

Handgun bullets, when aimed at a person are only fatal one/third of the time.

So? What's your point?

People should get bigger handguns?

9mm has good stopping power, and is less likely to pass through the intended target and hit an innocent person behind the bad guy. The hollow points mushroom doing a good amount of internal damage.

Ummm, yeah.

That's why I put those words in quotes, genius.

Of course I don't expect you to be able to understand, what with your embarrassing reading comprehension handicap and irrational need to constantly attack me.

Actually Dan, it is spot on with this bill.
The bill allows for warning shots.

"you can use equal or threatened use of force to protect yourself."

"As long as you understand".....
Warning shots fall under the "threatened force" part of the bill.
They just didn't like calling it a warning shot, even though that is just what it is.

IMO you never fire a warning shot. If you are going to pull the trigger make it a kill shot. Just like every cop on the planet will do. Cops are not trained to nor do they fire warning shots. And neither would I or anyone I know fire a warning shot.

Using a gun in self-defense is already legal in Florida. So why was Marissa Alexander in jail on a mandatory 20 year sentence? What crime did she commit before the existence of this new law?

If you have to ask, you have not read about it.
But I am not going to argue her case over this law.

There is a far greater potential of hitting someone else with these warning shots.

I didn't ask the question because I don't know and was seeking an answer. I asked trying to help you think through what you're saying about the case so you might recognize your error.
