Area gun sales, fears rising

Gun stores in Charlotte County have experienced increased sales since Election Day as local gun owners brace for an anticipated restriction of gun laws following the re-election of President Barack Obama.

You agree the police acted stupidly? The professor did what the police officer asked when he asked? He stopped and provided ID immediately upon request? I don't care if the guy was as white as Casper or Powder, if he ignores the commands of the police officer, which is illegal btw, bad things are going to happen.
As far as the Trump statement, being a smart ass doesn't suit you.
Gee, I thought you right wingers were all about "standing up to the government" and "protecting freedom". Now you claim that if you are legally in your own home, and you are guilty of no crime, it's still ok for the police to push you around. Gates was arrested AFTER he had identified himself to the cops, and AFTER the cops knew that the house was his. So tell me, what right did the cops have to give Gates any "commands". I think Professor Gates was well within his rights to tell the cops to get off his property. You know, that "private property" that you right wing heroes are so fanatical about. Bottom line: Gates was arrested for having the unmitigated gall to "talk back".

So please, Prep, don't ever tell me that you believe in "standing up to the government" or that you hold "private property" sacred. In the Gates situation, you had a chance to support the private property owner, or the governments'(police)interferen ce with the owner's right to be left alone on his private property. Whose side did you come down on?

No, it's not inconvenient at all. Obama asked black voters to support him. How does that make you, or any other white people, victims of "prejudice or discrimination"?

Are you really that clueless??? It's called racial discrimination by exclusion. Or do you think he was trying to drum up support from white South Afrikaners???

Fail. The video shows more quotes for Obama's 17 year old book, and the quotes are not even remotely racist. Obama wrote that white people can be cruel, and that black people can be mean. Both of those assertions are true, are they not.

Then you take issue with Obama saying that Don Imus was wrong to call balck girls "nappy headed hos". Apparently, you disagree, and think that its perfectly acceptable for Imus to say that. If you want to support Imus, that's your right. But Obama is not being "racist" for objecting to what Imus said. They whole video is just a hodgepodge of nonsense.

Bottom line, you cry "racist!" against Obama, but you fail to prove anything but your own racial paranoia.

And here is an irony. Imus' remark about the black girls is clearly racist, and yet, you use Obama's objection to the remark to try to prove that OBAMA IS A RACIST. It's all part of the right wing rubbish that "blacks are the real racists". Yes, yes, and if you were living in Germany during the 1930s and 1940s, you would probably say that "Jews are the real Nazis." And in the 1800s American west, Indians were the real calvary, blah, blah, blah.

You are too funny. Your link simply points out that the US has the most guns per capita of any country. It does nothing to show that having the most guns causes gun violence. In fact, the last paragraph points out the Mexico has more murders with guns than the US. Mexico is a Gun Free Country!

Your charts are the equivalent of saying the US has more hamburgers than any other country, therefore hamburgers are the reason our murder rate is so high.

Try using some real sources. Someone's. biased blog isn't going to cut it.

Sure try to twist it to serve your purpose here.
The bottom line is, the police officer was following procedure. It is what it is.
Gates initially refused to come outside and identify himself, and blew a fuse accusing the officer of being racist. This guy has over 50 degrees. Did he really need to react that way?
It had nothing to do with race! The race card is over used and old news. Had a white guy done the exact same thing, the result would have been the same.
It was no different than being pulled over and asked for ID.

I don't know what to tell you, Prep. I still side with the homeowner, who was guilty of no crime, other than having the nerve to enter his own house. According to the police report itself, Gates didn't begin yelling at the cop until AFTER he had already identified himself, and proved it was his house.

But I agree with you that the race card is overused. I assume you will not be participating in Gun Appreciation Day ,which is being held to protest Obama's gun policy. In case you don't know it, one of the sponsors is a group called A3P (American Third Position). I will let the opening statement on their website speak for itself: "The American Third Position Party believes that government policy in the United States discriminates against white Americans, the majority population, and that white Americans need their own political party to fight this discrimination."

I'm sure you object to the gun lobby "playing the race card", right?

I object to anyone playing the race card. Lets fix it and move on.
But, here's the thing. As long as there is Affirmative Action, whites are being discriminated against.
Bottom line, remove any questions about race, gender, or sexual orientation from applications. Choose the best candidate for the position without knowing.

How interesting. When the discussion is about Obama's alleged "racism" you are willing to carry on a long discussion. But the moment I show you an acutal example of white racism, you declare that we need to "move on." LOL. Ok, fair enough, I guess.

Sorry, but I can't agree that white people in America are suffering the effects of discrimination. The overwhelming amount of wealth, power, and authority in this country is in the hands of white people, and you'll be happy to know it probably always will be.

I'm throwing the Bull$hit flag here!!!

You spout what the media put out and not the facts.

I am aware of the details of this incident. These details are why O'Bama was so quick to offer his "Beer Summit" so as to quell what was going to blow up in his face.
Here is the REST of the story:
There had been a rash of break-ins in that very neighborhood.
A neighbor sees two figures trying to gain entrance to her neighbor's house after dark. She cannot see who it is and so she calls police to report a possible break-in going on. She's told to saty inside and not interfere. The Cambridge police arrive to find Mr. Gates and his friend trying to break into his house. Police order them to stop what they are doing and produce ID. Gates states who he is and does not produce the required ID. He assumes the police KNOW him as if he is some sort of celebrity. The police do not know him from Adam and demand ID again. Gates then begins his rant of "It's because I'm black and couldn't possibly live in this neighborehood, isn't?" Again he's asked for ID to prove who he claims to be to which the rant escalates.
Not once did he produce ID or have his neighbor confirm his ID. He was very uncooperative and thus arrested.
So before you bloviate, you'd best get the facts first. Even O'Bama jumped in about the "stupid police" before hearing the facts.
Here's another little tid-bit for ya: the arresting officer heads the Anti-descrimination training for the Cambridge Police Department. I'm pretty sure he knows how to handle himself.

You are wrong. Contrary to what you say, the officers did NOT arrive to find Gates trying to break into his home. When the cops got there, Gates had not only gotten inside the house, but had called university authorities to tell them that he had found marks on his door that looked as if someone tried to break in while he was away. The reason Gates had to break in to his own home is because someone had damaged the door while he was away on his trip.
Officer Crowley, according to his OWN REPORT, had to knock on the door, and wait for Gates to answer it before he ever saw Gates. Crowley's report further states that he believed Gates was lawfully in the residence, but that he was surprised and confused by Gates' behavior, which included a threat that Crowley did not know who he was "messing with."
Crowley then asked Gates for a photo ID so as to verify he was the resident of the house; Gates initially refused, but then did supply his Harvard University identification card. Crowley wrote that Gates repeatedly shouted requests for his identification. Crowley then told Gates that he was leaving his residence and that if Gates wanted to continue discussing the matter, he would speak to him outside. Gates replied, "Ya, I'll speak with your mama outside."
Frome Crowley's own report, the following facts are clear.
1. Gates was already inside his home when Crowley arrived
2. Crowley explained to Gates that he was responding to a call about a possible break-in.
3. Gates became agitated and offended, accusing Crowley of being suspicious simply because a black man was living in such a home.
4. Crowley believed Gates was telling the truth about being the lawful resident of the home, but for some reason, asked for a photo ID to "verify" it.
5. After Gates showed handed over his ID, he asked for it back, more than once.
6. Crowley asked Gates to step outside of his home to continue the discussion.
7. After Gates made the "speak to your mama" remark, Crowley decided to arrest him for "disorderly conduct."
To me, Gates was out of line for being so defensive, and for shouting at the cops. That was undignified, and uncalled for. He could have made more of an effort to understand why the police had been called. However, Gates was tired from his long trip, and he was annoyed at finding his door damaged, and upset at having to force his way into his house. The cops could have been more understanding of Gates feelings. So bottom line: both Gates and Crowley share some blame. But again, in a confrontation between an annoyed cop and an angry, but law-abiding citizen, I side with the citizen.

A 60+ year old black man who is on TV all the time is a considered burglery suspect when he is trying to get into his own house. Lucky for Skip it was a just a cop and not George Zimmerman.
