I read with interest the article of the low scores (59's)by the PGA tour players. I started playing golf when I was around nine years old and I am presently seventy-four and having shot my age at 71 and again at 74. I mention this because I have a liftime of experence and feel qualified to give a valid comment that helps explain the low scores. There is no question all the players normally can hit a fairly acurate tee ball and strike the irons withe a good degree of acuracy. So consequestly it comes down to putting. The greens they play on are splended, like a pool table, each being the same speed and texture. Contrary to what the general public and most coutry clubs that I have played on in my lifetime, in no way compare to these immaculate greens, normally running from 10-13 on the stemp meter and not varying. The official are scurring around to find someway to keep the scores from going so low. It's not lenghtning the couse or making the ruff deeper. We are alowed 32 putts per round. It's very simple, let the grass grow on the green to a fell-cro speed between 2-6 range which most of us play on and toy would see the scores neutralize. Some of the green I play on in the East Texas area we get on the green and it's an automatic two putt with the option of making the first putt, no three putts and due to the condition of the greens there are few birdies made...Thats my comment..All I know it would be fun to putt on the green the pros do, maybe I could shoot my age more often, only heaven will tell..Thanks
