When comparisons are made between athletes from different eras, it generally is acknowledged that todays athletes are bigger, stronger and faster. Additionally, we hear the same arguments about the equipment today that is far superior than yesteryear. Therefore, I get tired of these stories that there is no competition for Tiger. The question should be: How would the Players of Joneses, Palmers and Nicklaus' era have competed with today's players?
Lastly, I'm tired of the continuing effort to place Phil Michelson on the same level with Tger. He's not even in the same class!

As a young woman I loved watching Arnold and Jack on the course. I have great memories of my dad and I commenting over the matches as we sat mesmerized by both of these great men. My dad, God rest his soul, was not as accepting of Tiger's great play as I was. He just couldn't accept that there very possibly could be someone who was as great or even greater than his heroes. He accredited Tiger's success to much superior equipment, not any ability.

It is impossible to compare yesteryear's golf greats with the great players of today. And why should we? Let's all just enjoy what we are seeing......history being made. And to all of the old farts that are having a tough time dealing with that fact, get over it, it's no longer just a 'white gentlemen's sport.'

Go Tiger!

The thing is Tiger is a legend before he putts away his clubs and it's hard to accept that a man of his talent is really that great ,What else does he have to do to make doubters believe Hes just that good.

what was Sergio Garcia thinking when he expressed all the jelaously for Tiger.
Did he actually think he was in the same league??
He wanted the same attention with half the game.

Ed, You have it right with regard to Tiger. Yes, he is going to go down as the greatest winner, with more overall major victories than Jack.[He may not match Gary Player's number of worldwide victories though.] However, if majors are the true test of a champion, then the number of major champion winners you face as a competitor is the better test. Only Phil, Vijay, and Els have won more than three during Tiger's reign, and I think two of Els' were before Tiger came on the scene. Nicklaus competed with Palmer, Player, Snead, Watson, Trevino, Ballesteros, and many others whom I am forgetting.[Nicklaus also finished 2nd 19 times.] Zach Johnson will never win another major. SHawn Micheel? Todd Hamilton? Ben Curtis? I think the talent is deeper from # 1 to #150, but the gap from #1 to #2 is enormous. And on any given Sunday, someone just might beat Tiger. In Jack's day, with a full field event, you didn't get many one-hit wonders winning a tourney. Nicklaus had the same guys stepping up every time they played and they didn't back down like Baddley, Sergio, Luke Donald, etc... tg
