[[With unbearable pain and three unforgettable shots, Woods turned in one of his most memorable performances in a major Saturday by holing two long eagle putts, chipping in for birdie and somehow taking a one-shot lead over Lee Westwood.]]

...terrible paragraph.

"With unbearable pain"...obvs he was able to bear the pain because he finished and took the lead.

"With...three unforgettable shots, Woods turned in one of his most memorable performances" well, duh! unforgettable shots leading to a most memorable performance.

"somehow taking a one-shot lead over Lee Westwood" not "somehow." two eagles and a birdie.

really bad writing for a beat reporter. how about just reporting the facts and spare us the breathless hyperbole?

Now we have a golfer against the techno man who only wins because he has the technology on his side. If the course wasn't Woods most favorite course and if it was setup so shot makers could play instead of just pure power players then it might be a fair test but since all is stacked in Woods favor it should be no contest. Golf used to be a test of skill but now technolgy rules the game. Without the technology on his side Woods would only win about 10% of the time he does now. Imagine where Woods would hit the ball if he didn't have balls that do not curve and clubs(both irons and drivers) made specially for him that makes the ball go straight. He is the master of technology and too bad that will leave a question mark on all his victories and records. Right now he is probably not in the top ten of golfers who have played the game. Players like Trevino, Nelson, Jones, etc were the real golfers and not techno-freaks like Woods and others who are playing now.

You could give that kid a 2x4 and he would still have a chance. It's his preparation (mental and physical) that put him in his own class. Equipment has nothing to do with it.

The two fiercest competitors Golf has ever seen - Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. It would have been great to see them both go at each other in their prime.....
