Fowler, Rose left out of U.S. Open | The Columbus Dispatch

these guys alwasy find something to complain about. Fowler was outside of top 50 on cut-off date, and then failed to qualify. Big deal. Lehman has long history of being a crybaby. You'd think these guys would take more time to count their blessings rather than moaning and groaning all the time.

Gotta agree with you, John. Rules are rules. If circumstances such as these promote a review and even a change in those rules, so be it (does seem bizarre the 1-2 finishers in a significant tournament wouldn't make the U.S. Open) but not retroactively.

Rules may be rules, but this is a stupid rule. The USGA does itself and all golf fans a disservice by not ensuring that the very best are playing in its main event. Rose and Fowler should both be in the Open field without question; they just beat a world-class field at a world-class venue two weeks before the Open. The rule should be altered to allow for players who are "hot" in the weeks leading up to the Open to get into the field without qualifying. Furthermore, Lehman is right about 15 spots not being nearly enough from this sectional.
